To show the lesson name inside the live video, add a text or browser source to the OBS scene and update that source whenever the lesson changes. To show it as the live event’s title on YouTube, edit the stream metadata in YouTube Studio. These are separate outputs: changing one does not automatically change the other, and neither OBS nor YouTube automatically knows which lesson your schedule says is playing.
First decide where the lesson title should appear
A title can appear in two different places. An on-screen title is part of the video image sent by OBS, so viewers see it over the lesson. A YouTube metadata title labels the live event on YouTube. If viewers need both, update both separately.
| Method | Where viewers see the title | Who or what updates it |
|---|---|---|
| OBS text source | Over the video image | An operator changes the text, or a workflow you configure changes its source |
| OBS browser source | Over the video image, rendered from a web page | The web page or the system maintaining it must supply the current lesson name |
| Separate OBS scenes | In the video image, as part of each scene’s layout | An operator prepares and transitions scenes, or a configured workflow does so |
| YouTube Studio stream settings | As the live event’s YouTube metadata, not over the video | An operator edits the stream details |
Add an on-screen lesson title in OBS
Use a text source for a simple label
- Open the OBS scene that sends the education stream and add a text source from the Sources list. Choose the text source available for your operating system.
- Enter the lesson title, then position and size the source in the preview. Keep it clear of important content and screen edges; check the composition at the output resolution your viewers receive.
- Set the text’s appearance for readability against the video. A solid or translucent background, outline, or shadow can help when the lesson footage changes brightness or color.
- When the next lesson begins, edit the source text. The title changes in the outgoing composition without requiring a new scene if the rest of the layout stays the same.
This is a manual update unless you configure another system to change the text. OBS provides sources and scene controls; that alone does not connect a lesson timetable to the title.
Use a browser source for a web-maintained title graphic
If a page already renders the title card or lesson label, add it to the scene as a Browser Source. OBS describes this source as a way to “Add a web page to your scene.” The browser source displays the page; it does not establish that the page knows which lesson is currently playing. Make sure the page or the process maintaining it updates reliably at each transition.

Use separate scenes when the layout changes
If lessons need different layouts as well as different names, make a scene for each layout and include the appropriate title source in each one. OBS Studio Mode lets an operator prepare the next scene and transition it to the live output. If only the lesson name changes, keeping one persistent title source and editing its text avoids a full scene change.
Update YouTube’s live event title separately
To change the platform-facing title, edit the stream details in YouTube Studio through the stream settings or while scheduling the stream. This changes YouTube metadata; it does not render text into the video. Conversely, changing an OBS text source does not change the YouTube event title.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API also represents the broadcast and the transmitted stream separately, with the broadcast carrying event metadata such as a title. Using the API is an advanced implementation path that requires authorization and developer work. It still needs a separate connection to the lesson schedule, and it does not by itself update an OBS overlay.
Make lesson changes dependable
Choose one owner for each update: an operator, a web page or text file that your workflow maintains, or a custom integration you build. Write down the transition procedure and test it before relying on a continuous stream. If both the graphic and YouTube metadata matter, include both in the transition process; do not assume one follows the other.

- For a text-only change, update the persistent title source.
- For a layout change, prepare the appropriate scene and transition it at the lesson boundary.
- For a browser overlay, confirm that its underlying page has the right lesson name and can refresh or update as your workflow requires.
- For YouTube’s event label, edit stream metadata independently of the overlay.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Its cloud loop does not require a computer, OBS, or home connection to stay on, and it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. For a lesson title that must change during playback, plan for the title to be part of the uploaded video or use a separately maintained title workflow; StreamNeo’s described role is looping uploaded videos, not automatically reading a lesson timetable or changing an overlay.
Every slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists, and support from the StreamNeo team. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or the pricing page for plan details. To start, create a StreamNeo account.

Check rights and YouTube policies before looping lessons
Use lesson recordings and music you own or are authorized to stream, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and reused-content rules for your channel. A 24/7 schedule does not itself grant rights to the material. If a lesson’s title or graphics identify a particular session, ensure the recorded video and any separate overlay stay accurate when it is replayed.
