For prepared episode information—such as a title, guest names, or a short description—add both language versions as an OBS Text Source or as a bilingual page in an OBS Browser Source, then layer it over the video. This puts the text in the picture for every viewer; it is not a YouTube caption track. If you mean captions for live speech, use YouTube’s separate caption-delivery workflow instead.
Choose between an on-screen overlay and live captions
| What you need | Suitable method | What viewers see | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prepared episode information in Hindi and English | OBS Text Source or a bilingual page in an OBS Browser Source | The text is part of the video picture and appears to everyone | Viewers cannot hide or restyle it with YouTube’s CC control; it can compete with other picture elements. OBS Text Sources · OBS Browser Source |
| Viewer-selectable captions for live speech | Send caption data through a YouTube-supported live caption workflow | YouTube receives captions separately from the video picture | Requires a supported caption source, encoder, or software workflow. YouTube’s live-caption help page says it currently supports one caption track. YouTube: Live caption requirements |
| Automatic captions for Hindi live speech | Do not rely on YouTube’s documented built-in live automatic-caption route | YouTube’s documented live automatic captions are English-only | Availability and behavior can depend on rollout and normal-latency conditions; multiple languages or overlapping speakers can cause problems. YouTube: Use automatic captioning |
An overlay is appropriate for information you have already written, such as the episode title or guest name. It does not transcribe what the speakers say. Conversely, captions are meant to represent speech and are delivered as a separate caption track rather than as text baked into the picture.
Add prepared Hindi and English text in OBS
- Write and check the text. Prepare a concise Hindi line and its English counterpart. Use an editorially approved Hindi spelling and punctuation, and include only the details viewers need at that moment—for example, the episode title and guest name.
- Add a Text Source. In OBS, use the Sources dock to add a Text Source. Enter both lines in its text field, or choose the read-from-file option if you want to maintain the wording in a text file. OBS documents font, color, alignment, outline, opacity, and wrapping options. The exact controls differ between the Windows GDI+ and macOS/Linux FreeType 2 implementations. See OBS Text Sources.
- Style for the stream picture. Choose a readable font size and contrast, and arrange the Hindi and English lines so neither is clipped or crowded. Keep the block clear of faces and other important visual content. OBS’s font documentation describes available styling controls but does not guarantee Devanagari shaping for every installed font or operating system.
- Layer and place the source. In the Sources list, put the text source above the camera or video source. Higher sources appear over lower sources. Position and resize the text in the scene preview; see OBS Sources Guide.
- Test the actual output. Preview or record a short sample at the stream’s intended size. Check Devanagari character shaping, line breaks, contrast, clipping, and overlap. Verify the rendered result on the machine and OBS installation you will use for the broadcast.
- Start the broadcast using the right route. Use the overlay for fixed episode information. If the goal is accessible, viewer-selectable speech captions, configure caption delivery separately rather than describing the overlay as closed captions.
Use a Browser Source for a designed or remotely updated card
If the bilingual text needs a richer layout or must be updated from a page, add an OBS Browser Source instead of building the design from a plain text field. OBS loads a web page into the scene and provides viewport width and height settings; its default CSS makes the page background transparent. You can point it at a URL or local file. See OBS Browser Source.
- Create or choose a page with the Hindi and English episode information arranged as you want it to appear.
- Add a Browser Source in OBS and set its URL or local file, then set the viewport dimensions to fit the design.
- Place it above the camera or video layer in the Sources list, then position and size it in the scene preview.
- Preview or record a short sample and check the script rendering, line breaks, contrast, and placement at the intended stream size.
As with a Text Source, a Browser Source is an on-video overlay: it is visible to all viewers and cannot be switched off through YouTube’s CC control.

When the text is spoken dialogue, deliver captions separately
YouTube’s documented live-caption workflow accepts embedded 608/708 captions or delivery through supported software over HTTP POST. YouTube states: “The captions can either be embedded in the video or sent through supported software that can send captions over HTTP POSTs.” See YouTube’s live caption requirements.
Although the 608/708 standard supports up to four language tracks, YouTube’s help page says it currently supports one caption track. Do not assume you can provide Hindi and English as two selectable live caption tracks through this workflow. YouTube’s built-in live automatic-caption documentation describes English-only captions, not automatic Hindi live captions. Check the current YouTube requirements and the capabilities of your caption software or encoder before going live.

Keep the overlay readable in a podcast scene
- Use short lines for the episode title, guest name, or other fixed information rather than placing a full set of show notes over the video.
- Check the Hindi and English together in the final scene; correct spelling in a source file does not by itself guarantee that the chosen font renders Devanagari correctly.
- Review the actual stream-size preview for contrast, wrapping, clipping, and overlap with faces or other important content.
- Remember that an overlay is always visible in the picture. If viewers need to turn captions on or off, use a caption track instead.
Troubleshooting
- Hindi characters look separated, substituted, or incorrectly shaped: The installed font or rendering setup may not display Devanagari as intended. Try a different available font and test again on the streaming machine; OBS does not certify shaping across all fonts and operating systems.
- Text is cut off or wraps awkwardly: Adjust the text block’s size and position in the OBS preview, shorten the wording, or change the source’s wrapping and layout settings. Test at the intended stream size.
- The text appears behind the camera or video: Move the text source above the video source in the Sources list. OBS source order determines which visual elements appear on top.
- Viewers cannot turn the episode text off: That is expected for an OBS overlay because it is part of the video picture. Use YouTube caption delivery when the requirement is a viewer-selectable caption track.
- You expected automatic Hindi speech captions: YouTube’s documented built-in live automatic captions are English-only. Use a supported live-caption workflow if you need speech captions, and verify its supported language and track capabilities before the broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a pre-recorded podcast video live on YouTube continuously, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
