Put the schedule in the video scene your encoder sends to YouTube. YouTube Studio schedules and manages the broadcast, but the schedule graphic itself belongs in the encoder’s composed picture—not in the broadcast-scheduling step.
Where the schedule goes
A YouTube livestream has two separate production parts: the broadcast event viewers watch and the audio-video stream sent to it. Your encoder combines the radio visuals and schedule graphic into one picture, then sends that feed to YouTube. Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API guide explains the distinction between a broadcast and the stream carrying its audio-video.
You can use software or hardware encoding; a separate physical purchase is not established as necessary just to add an on-screen schedule. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes connecting an encoder to a YouTube live event.
Choose a schedule format

These are production choices rather than features of YouTube Studio. Pick the least complicated format that stays accurate and readable.

Prepare a readable schedule
- Make the current programme and its time the most prominent items; show upcoming programmes as secondary information.
- Keep station identity visible without crowding the main listening visual.
- Use a time zone viewers can understand, and verify the schedule and time zone before going live.
- Check that text contrasts with its background and remains legible at the size it will occupy in the video.
Add the schedule to your encoder scene
- Create the graphic: Prepare text or an image for a stable lineup. If the schedule changes often, use an updateable source, such as a web-rendered graphic, only if your encoder supports it.
- Add it to the composition: In your encoder, add the schedule as a text or graphic source to the scene that produces the outgoing video. Position and size it in the scene preview. For OBS, its YouTube guide covers connecting to YouTube, but exact current text- and browser-source menus are not established here; consult OBS’s current official guides for those controls. The general instruction is to add the source, place it in the scene, and test the rendered output.
- Inspect the result: Check the preview for cropping, legibility, contrast, and overlap with station branding or other important visuals. If the schedule changes during the broadcast, test a programme transition before announcing the stream.
Schedule and start the YouTube broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, choose Manage, and schedule the stream. YouTube says a scheduled stream can be promoted and viewers can receive reminders.
- Connect your encoder using YouTube’s stream URL and stream key, or choose YouTube as the service if the encoder offers that connection. Keep the key private.
- Start the encoder so it sends the composed audio-video feed. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room and inspect the schedule in that preview.
- When the picture is correct, go live in Live Control Room.
YouTube Help says enabling a channel for its first live stream may take up to 24 hours. Treat that as YouTube’s setup guidance, which may change, and enable live streaming ahead of the broadcast rather than waiting until showtime.
Troubleshoot schedule display problems
- The schedule is missing on YouTube: Confirm it was added to the encoder scene that is actually being sent, not just prepared as a separate file. Check the Live Control Room preview before going live.
- Text is cut off or difficult to read: Resize or reposition the source in the encoder preview, improve contrast, and simplify the information shown.
- The lineup is outdated: Update a fixed text or image graphic before the next show. For frequent changes, verify that the external or web-rendered source is available and displaying current information.
- The graphic covers station visuals: Move or reduce the panel and review the full composition in the preview.
- The broadcast cannot be started: Check that the channel’s live-streaming setup is enabled, the encoder is connected with the correct stream URL and key, and YouTube is receiving the feed. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours according to YouTube Help.
