You can share an Apple Music song to a Story in two different ways: post a link that takes viewers to the track, or use Instagram’s or Facebook’s own Music sticker to play a licensed clip inside the Story. For a reliable Instagram link, copy the song’s Apple Music URL and add it with Instagram’s Link sticker. For in-Story audio, use the social app’s Music sticker instead.
First, choose what you want viewers to do
- Open the Apple Music track: Share its link. On Instagram, add the link with the Link sticker so viewers can tap through.
- Hear a clip in the Story: Add the song with Instagram’s or Facebook’s Music sticker. The social app supplies that audio from its own catalog; it is not streaming the track from your Apple Music subscription.
- Do both: If the composer allows it, add a Music sticker for the preview and a Link sticker for the Apple Music destination.
A link does not automatically add playable Story audio. Likewise, a Music sticker does not necessarily direct viewers to the exact Apple Music recording. Catalogs, licensing, regions, and account types can affect which songs and features are available.

Share directly from Apple Music on iPhone
- Open the Music app and find the song.
- Tap the ••• More button beside the song or on its Now Playing screen.
- Tap Share Song or Share (the label can vary).
- Choose Instagram or Facebook from the share sheet.
- If the social app offers a Story destination, select it, finish the Story, and publish.
Apple documents sharing Apple Music items through the share options to social apps including Instagram and Facebook, but the precise destination is not guaranteed to be a Story in every app version or account. The documented iPhone example is for playlists, so treat the song-specific handoff as interface-dependent. See Apple’s sharing instructions.

Add an Apple Music link to an Instagram Story
- In Apple Music, open the song and tap •••.
- Tap Share Song, then choose Copy or Copy Link, depending on the interface.
- Open Instagram and start a new Story. Add a photo, video, or background.
- Tap the Stickers icon, then choose Link.
- Paste the Apple Music URL. If desired, edit the sticker text and position it where viewers can see it.
- Publish the Story.
Instagram’s Link sticker sends viewers to the linked website when they tap it. Depending on their device and installed apps, the URL may open in Apple Music or a browser. A link is not automatic Story playback: viewers must tap it, and their ability to play the full track may depend on their access to Apple Music. Apple explains that shared links can open items in Apple Music on the web.
Play a song inside an Instagram Story
- In Instagram, start a Story with a photo or video.
- Tap Stickers, then Music.
- Search by song title or artist and select the track you want.
- Use the clip selector to choose the section, then select an available display style, such as a song label, cover-style display, or lyrics.
- Move or resize the sticker, then publish.
The Music sticker is separate from the Apple Music link. It plays a short clip within Instagram when the feature and track are available. Instagram says sticker availability can vary by person and location; if Music or another sticker is missing, updating the app is a recommended first step. See Instagram’s Story sticker guidance.

Share to a Facebook Story
You can try Apple Music’s direct share option: open the song, tap •••, choose Share Song or Share, select Facebook, and choose a Story destination if Facebook presents one. The handoff can differ by app version and account. If it does not offer Stories, create the Story in Facebook and add the song or link there.

Use Facebook’s Music sticker for in-Story audio
- In the Facebook app, create a Story using a photo or video.
- Tap Stickers, then Music.
- Select a song and adjust the slider to choose a clip.
- Choose an available display style or lyrics, position the sticker, and share.
Facebook’s Music sticker uses Facebook’s own available music catalog; it does not establish that the Story is playing from your Apple Music subscription. Song and lyrics availability can vary. Facebook’s instructions also say that a Page Story requires you to be a Page admin or editor, and its sticker guidance notes that stickers cannot be added to text Stories. Start with a photo or video if you need a Music sticker. See Facebook’s Music sticker instructions and its Story sticker restrictions.

If your goal is to send viewers to Apple Music rather than play a clip, share or copy the song URL and add it wherever the current Facebook Story composer permits a link. Facebook’s controls may differ by account and app version.
Post one Story to Instagram and Facebook
One option is to create the Story in Instagram and enable sharing to Facebook. The accounts need to be connected through Meta’s Accounts Center, and the available sharing controls and audience depend on account settings. Facebook says Instagram Stories shared to Facebook can also appear in Facebook and Messenger, subject to privacy settings; its Stories are visible for 24 hours. Check the audience before publishing, especially if the two accounts have different privacy settings. See Facebook’s information about Instagram Story sharing.

Create separate Stories instead if the platforms show different music catalogs, you want different captions or audiences, cross-posting is unavailable, or you are posting to a Page with different permissions. A song or sticker available on one platform may not be available on the other.

- Instagram or Facebook is missing from Apple Music’s share sheet: Check that the app is installed, look through the share-sheet row, and tap More if shown. If it still is not available, copy the Apple Music link and build the Story in the social app.
- Instagram’s Link sticker is missing: Update Instagram and reopen it. Sticker availability may vary by account or location. A URL typed as ordinary Story text may not be tappable.
- The song is not in Instagram or Facebook Music: The social platform’s catalog may not include that recording in your region or for your account. Try searching with the artist’s name or another version; otherwise, share the Apple Music link.
- Facebook’s Music sticker is missing: Try the Facebook mobile app, update it, and start with a photo or video rather than a text Story. For a Page, confirm you are an admin or editor.
- Story audio is muted or disappears: Catalog and licensing availability can vary by region, account, and content type. Using the platform’s native Music sticker is the practical route for Story audio; uploaded recordings may also be muted or restricted.
Avoid screen-recording Apple Music playback as a workaround. It can lead to copyright or platform-muting issues, and an Apple Music subscription does not itself grant permission to redistribute a recording. Use the social app’s licensed Music feature for in-Story audio.
Which method should you use?
| Goal | Best option |
|---|---|
| Send people to the exact Apple Music track or playlist | Share or copy the Apple Music link; on Instagram, add it with the Link sticker. |
| Play a clip inside an Instagram Story | Instagram’s Music sticker, if the track is available. |
| Play a clip inside a Facebook Story | Facebook’s Music sticker, if the track and feature are available. |
| Share to both platforms | Cross-post from Instagram if accounts are connected and settings allow, or create separate Stories. |
| The song is not in a social app’s Music catalog | Share its Apple Music link rather than uploading a recording. |
Android and desktop
Apple Music is available on supported Android devices, but share-sheet names and how Instagram or Facebook handles a shared item may differ from iPhone. Apple lists Android 5.0 Lollipop or later for supported phones and tablets, and compatible Chromebooks that support Android apps; see Apple Music’s Android requirements. If direct sharing does not give you a Story option, copy the link and add it from the social app’s mobile Story composer.
Apple Music on the web can share a song or copy a link, but that is not the same as creating a mobile Instagram Story. Use the mobile social app to compose the Story and add the copied link or native Music sticker.
