To share a screen recording on YouTube, upload the saved video file in YouTube Studio, choose its visibility, then share its link if that setting allows it. For link sharing without ordinary public discovery, choose Unlisted. To limit access to specific people, choose Private and invite them by email. YouTube Studio uploads a recording; it does not capture your computer screen.
How do I share a screen recording on YouTube?
First, record and save your screen as a video file using screen-recording software. YouTube describes the process as recording and saving a video on your computer, then uploading it to YouTube; the Studio upload flow imports a file rather than recording your screen. See YouTube Help: Record & upload a video.
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Create in the upper-right corner, then Upload videos.
- Select the screen-recording video file on your computer. YouTube’s computer workflow allows you to upload up to 15 videos at a time.
- Add a title and any other details you need, and answer the required audience question.
- Under Visibility, choose Unlisted, Private, or Public based on who should be able to watch.
- Save or publish the video. When it is ready to watch, copy its URL and send it to the intended viewers if the visibility setting allows link sharing.
Uploading and publishing are separate: uploading imports the file, while publishing makes it available according to its visibility setting. If you close the upload window before selecting Visibility, YouTube says the video is saved as private on the Content page in Studio. You can return there to finish its details and choose how it can be viewed. Video processing time varies with quality, length, format, and traffic; YouTube does not give a single completion time that applies to every upload. The right choice depends on whether convenience, limited access, or public discovery matters most. YouTube’s privacy-setting guidance distinguishes the options this way:

Can I share it with a link without making it public?
Yes. Set the video to Unlisted and send its URL. Unlisted reduces ordinary discovery, but it is not confidential: anyone who receives the link can share it with someone else. If that risk is unacceptable, use Private instead.
How do I let only certain people watch?
Choose Private in YouTube Studio and select the viewers by email. A private video does not support public URL sharing, is not listed in search or on your channel’s Videos tab, and does not allow comments.

What to check if sharing does not work
- The recipient cannot open the video: Check whether you selected Private. Private access is for you and the people you selected by email; an ordinary forwarded URL does not grant access to others.
- You expected the Unlisted video to be confidential: Unlisted links can be reshared by anyone who has them. Change the setting to Private if access must be restricted to selected people.
- The video is not visible yet: Uploading does not necessarily mean processing is finished. Processing time varies, so check its status in YouTube Studio rather than assuming a fixed wait.
- You closed the upload flow early: Look for the saved private video on Studio’s Content page, then complete the visibility choice.
- You cannot find an upload option: Account restrictions, including supervised-account limitations, may affect upload availability. Check the account’s available controls and applicable YouTube guidance.
