Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a continuous yoga music stream that does not need real-time audience interaction, choose Normal latency. YouTube says Normal is best for non-interactive streams and gives viewers the least buffering. If you are broadcasting live instruction or responding to chat and requests, consider Low or Ultra-low instead.
Which latency setting should you use?
Latency is the time between the stream being captured and viewers seeing or hearing it. For background yoga music, a shorter delay usually offers little benefit: viewers are listening rather than having a live conversation. Normal latency preserves more tolerance for delivery problems, which matters for a stream intended to play steadily.
| Setting | Intended use | Typical latency | Tradeoff and resolution support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | Non-interactive streams | YouTube does not state a numerical typical delay in its guidance. | Lowest viewer buffering; supports all resolutions and live features. |
| Low | Limited interaction, such as polls | Most viewers experience under 10 seconds. | More buffering risk than Normal; 4K is unsupported. |
| Ultra-low | Real-time conversation | Most viewers experience under 5 seconds. | Greater buffering risk; 4K is unsupported. |
YouTube describes Low and Ultra-low in terms of what most viewers experience, not a guaranteed delay for every viewer. Network congestion can add delay even when your connection can sustain the stream’s average bitrate. YouTube’s guidance sums up the choice this way: “If you don’t interact with your audience, higher latency is not a problem.” (YouTube Help: live streaming latency)
How to change YouTube Live latency
The manual latency control is available for encoder-based broadcasts. YouTube says webcam and mobile broadcasts are set up for interactivity and do not expose a manual latency selection.

- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live.
- Enter the stream details.
- In the left menu, select Stream or Manage.
- Open Stream settings.
- Under Stream latency, choose Normal, Low, or Ultra-low.
For a continuous yoga music stream without active interaction, select Normal. If you later add live teaching, requests, polls, or active chat responses, reassess whether the faster feedback from Low or Ultra-low is worth the increased buffering risk. Check DVR expectations for a long stream
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind a live broadcast, then resume where they paused. They cannot seek to a point before the stream began. YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable when a stream exceeds 12 hours; Apple TV, Apple AirPlay, and older app versions can have lower limits. Do not promise that viewers can rewind without limit on a continuous broadcast.

To change DVR, open Stream settings > Additional settings in the stream dashboard. YouTube says DVR can be enabled or disabled while live, but the change applies only to viewers who start playback after it is made. Turning DVR off prevents seeking back during the live broadcast; YouTube says viewers can still watch the recording after it becomes available. (YouTube Help: DVR on live streams)
Test the stream independently of latency
Latency is only one part of a reliable broadcast. YouTube recommends testing before going live with audio and movement similar to the actual stream, then monitoring stream health messages during the broadcast. For a music stream, test the real audio chain and visual scene rather than assuming that a stable upload alone guarantees smooth playback.
