To show YouTube membership-gift events on stream, connect your YouTube channel to Streamlabs, configure a Members alert and a gift-specific variation, then add the Alert Box to your scene and test it before going live. Streamlabs documents alerts for membership gifts, but that does not mean gifting is enabled for every YouTube channel—check availability on your channel first.
Before you set up the alert
Confirm that YouTube membership gifting is available and enabled for your channel. Streamlabs’ article on gifting alerts, first published May 20, 2022 and last updated September 5, 2025, described YouTube as rolling the feature out to a limited number of streamers. Streamlabs’ alert support cannot enable gifting on YouTube, and its article does not establish current eligibility criteria. Check your channel’s YouTube features before troubleshooting the alert.
You will also need your YouTube channel connected to Streamlabs and the Alert Box present in the scene you plan to broadcast. The exact steps for adding the widget depend on your streaming software.
Connect YouTube to Streamlabs
- Log in at Streamlabs.com and open the profile menu.
- Go to Account Settings → Platforms.
- Use Merge for the platform you want to add, then complete the connection flow for YouTube.
- If you use Streamlabs Desktop, check that YouTube is the selected platform for the relevant alert settings.
Streamlabs says the alert types available depend on the platforms linked to your account. Streamlabs’ platform-connection guide covers the account connection flow.

Configure a membership-gifting alert
- In the Streamlabs dashboard, open Alert Box from the Streaming essentials or left navigation.
- Open the YouTube alert settings and select Members.
- Select Open Alert Variations, then choose Add A Variation With Custom or Default Settings.
- Open Condition and choose the gift condition that should trigger this variation. Streamlabs lists conditions for a membership gift amount, a minimum number of members gifted at once, and a membership gift level.
- Customize the variation and save your settings.
Choose the condition to match the alert you want viewers to see. For example, a threshold for members gifted at once can reserve a more noticeable treatment for larger gifts; a gift-level condition can distinguish membership levels. Choose one bundled alert or alerts for new members
Streamlabs says the default behavior identifies the gifter, shows how many memberships were gifted, and alerts for each new member. Its gifting guidance also describes options for showing one alert for a gifting event or displaying the membership level. Decide whether you want a single event-focused alert or individual new-member notifications, then check the preview so the result is not more repetitive or prominent than you intend.

Adjust the visual and audio treatment
The YouTube alert editor lets you adjust the layout, image or GIF, sound, font, animation and duration; text-to-speech availability depends on the alert type. Keep the message legible over your video and make sure the sound and duration fit your program. Use the editor’s preview as you make changes. Add the Alert Box to your streaming scene
The alert must be part of the scene that is actually live. Use the route for your software:

- Streamlabs Desktop: In Sources, select the plus sign and choose Alert Box.
- OBS with the Streamlabs plugin: Open Streamlabs → Widgets, then add Alert Box.
- Other streaming software: Copy the widget URL from the Streamlabs dashboard and add it as a browser source.
After adding it, position and size the source in the scene so it is visible without obscuring important content. Streamlabs’ setup instructions cover its supported routes: How to set up alerts in Streamlabs.
Test before going live
- In the dashboard, use Test for the alert, or use Test Widgets in Streamlabs Desktop.
- Check that the alert appears in the intended scene, at the intended size and position, and that its sound and timing work.
- Confirm that the variation responds as intended to its selected condition. A preview can check appearance and placement; it does not establish that YouTube gifting is enabled or verify a real gift event.
- During a live broadcast, check Recent Events in Streamlabs Desktop if you need to confirm that gifted memberships are being received there.
Streamlabs says Cloudbot also automatically alerts chat about gifting. That chat notification is separate from placing the visual Alert Box in your broadcast scene.

Troubleshoot missing or incorrect alerts
- No gift events appear: First confirm that YouTube membership gifting is enabled for your channel. Streamlabs’ documented support does not establish that every channel can use the YouTube feature.
- The YouTube Members settings are missing: Check that YouTube is connected under Account Settings → Platforms, and that YouTube is selected in Streamlabs Desktop where applicable. Available alert types depend on linked platforms.
- The alert does not show on stream: Confirm that the Alert Box source is in the scene being broadcast. For browser-source setups, verify that you used the widget URL from the Streamlabs dashboard.
- The wrong variation appears: Reopen Open Alert Variations and inspect the selected Condition, such as gift amount, members gifted at once, or gift level. Save changes and test again.
- The alert is hard to read or too disruptive: Adjust its layout, image or GIF, sound, font, animation or duration in the alert editor, then preview it in the scene.
