For an AWS Elemental Live stream delivered as DASH to an HTTP server or AWS Elemental MediaStore, create a DASH output group and enable both Chunked Encoding and Chunked Transfer. The receiving system must support that chunked DASH output. These settings can send fragments before a full segment is complete, but they do not guarantee a particular glass-to-glass latency: the complete delivery path and player determine the result.
Check that chunked DASH fits the delivery path
AWS documents this ultra-low-latency setup for DASH output to an HTTP server or AWS Elemental MediaStore. Before changing an event, ask the destination operator whether its receiver accepts DASH with chunked encoding and chunked transfer. AWS notes that the feature works with downstream systems that can accept DASH, and advises discussing requirements with the downstream administrator: AWS Elemental Live: Setting up for ultra-low latency.
Confirm the exact destination and receiver behavior, including any required fragment and segment lengths. A DASH output group alone is not enough if the receiving system is not ready for the chunked output.
Enable ultra-low-latency DASH output
- Start with the normal Elemental Live event and DASH output-group workflow. Use the output group for the intended HTTP server or MediaStore destination.
- Enable Chunked Encoding. This allows Elemental Live to deliver fragments before a complete segment has finished.
- Review Fragment Length and Segment Length. Change them only as needed to meet downstream requirements. AWS’s cited setup guidance does not prescribe universal values, so confirm the appropriate values with the receiver’s administrator and the interface help.
- Select the appropriate HTTP Push Dialect. The Chunked Transfer field appears after selecting the appropriate dialect.
- Enable Chunked Transfer. Confirm that the selected HTTP push dialect and destination support this transfer behavior.
- Test the complete delivery path. Validate ingest, packaging or delivery, and playback with the actual receiver and player; measure latency end to end in that deployment.
What determines the latency viewers experience
Chunked output can make fragments available before an entire segment is complete, which may reduce waiting at that stage of delivery. It does not, by itself, establish the latency a viewer will see. The receiver’s ability to process frequent fragments, the rest of the packaging and delivery chain, the player, and network conditions all matter. AWS’s Elemental Live setup page documents the output feature, not a guaranteed end-to-end latency figure.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose fragment and segment lengths against the downstream system’s requirements rather than assuming a single setting is right for every deployment. Measure from the live source to playback on the intended player and network; an encoder-side setting is not a substitute for validating the whole chain.
Keep SRT contribution separate from chunked DASH output
SRT is a transport workflow, not a replacement for the DASH output-group settings above. Its latency setting concerns packet-recovery buffering between endpoints. Coordinate it with the other system rather than treating it as a universal low-latency number.

SRT input
For an SRT input, coordinate the address and port, encryption and passphrase if used, any required stream ID, and preferred latency with the upstream administrator. AWS’s setup and prerequisite guidance is at Setting up an SRT input and SRT input prerequisites.
SRT output
For SRT output, coordinate the destination address and port, caller/listener roles, latency, network access, and encryption with the downstream administrator. Elemental Live sends in either arrangement; the caller initiates the handshake. AWS’s SRT output setup is documented at Delivering TS using the SRT protocol and Creating the output.

If sending Reliable TS to an AWS Elemental MediaConnect flow, AWS recommends selecting the MediaConnect option in Reliable TS rather than its SRT option, which is intended for downstream systems other than MediaConnect.
Do not confuse this setup with LL-HLS
Low-Latency HLS is a separate delivery architecture in AWS’s documentation, using MediaPackage and CloudFront; it is not configured by enabling Elemental Live’s DASH chunked-output fields. For LL-HLS blocking playlist requests, CloudFront must forward the _HLS_msn and _HLS_part query strings. See AWS’s live streaming guidance for CloudFront and AWS Media Services and Guidance for Live Streaming on AWS.

When evaluating DASH chunked output against an LL-HLS architecture, check destination and format acceptance, receiver support for chunked transfer or LL-HLS blocking requests, where packaging and CDN delivery take place, player compatibility, and measured latency in the actual deployment. The player and latency results must be verified in your own environment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot the setup
- Chunked Transfer is not visible: Select the appropriate HTTP Push Dialect; AWS says the field appears after that selection.
- The destination rejects or cannot use the output: Confirm that it accepts DASH with both chunked encoding and chunked transfer, and that its administrator has prepared the receiver.
- Latency does not improve as expected: Check whether the receiver can handle fragments as they arrive, then inspect the rest of the delivery and playback chain and measure end to end. The encoder settings alone do not guarantee a particular result.
- Unclear fragment or segment values: There is no universal value specified in AWS’s cited setup guidance. Set them to the downstream workflow’s requirements with the receiver administrator.
- SRT settings are being used to solve a DASH output issue: Treat the workflows separately. Coordinate SRT latency with its peer endpoint; use the DASH output group’s chunked settings for the documented HTTP or MediaStore path.
- LL-HLS playback is failing through CloudFront: Check the LL-HLS architecture and ensure CloudFront forwards
_HLS_msnand_HLS_partfor blocking playlist requests.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a different use case—keeping an uploaded, pre-recorded video or playlist live on YouTube 24/7—StreamNeo is a cloud service, not an Elemental Live replacement and not a camera-to-live encoder. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on.
