Each livestream must also have live chat enabled and meet YouTube’s video-level rules. This setup enables paid highlighted messages; it does not ensure that YouTube will archive an uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours.
Check channel eligibility first
Super Chat is part of YouTube’s fan-funding features. You must be in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), be at least 18, live in a location where Supers are available, and accept and comply with the applicable terms. The relevant terms may be the Commerce Product Module (CPM) or, for some creators, the legacy Commerce Product Addendum (CPA). YouTube says creators who previously accepted the CPA do not need to sign the replacement CPM. See YouTube’s Commerce Products monetization policies and its Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability and policies.
YouTube’s lower YPP entry tier lists 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours over 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days for several fan-funding features. Meeting those thresholds alone does not guarantee that Super Chat will be available: regional availability, feature-specific requirements, and channel review also apply. These are not the separate, higher thresholds for ad revenue. Check YouTube’s monetization options and eligibility and the Supers policy for your account and location.
Turn on Super Chat in YouTube Studio
On a computer
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Earn.
- Select Supers. If eligible, choose Get started and follow the on-screen steps.
- Review and accept the CPM if Studio asks you to. If you already accepted the CPA, YouTube says you do not need to sign the replacement CPM.
- Turn on the Super Chat switch. Super Stickers have a separate switch; enable them independently if you also want viewers to use them.
The current desktop instructions are in YouTube’s guide to turning Super Chat and Super Stickers on or off. If Supers or the setup option is missing, first check YPP status, age, location, and whether the channel has completed any required terms or review.

On the Android YouTube Studio app
Open Earn, find the Supers card, then tap Get started or Turn on and complete the CPM flow if prompted. Labels can vary with app availability or account status; if you cannot find the card, use Studio on a computer and check eligibility.
Confirm that each livestream can accept Super Chats
Turning on Super Chat for the channel does not override restrictions on an individual stream. Before or during a broadcast, confirm live chat is on and check that the video is not:

Super Chat also requires live chat or comments to remain enabled. YouTube’s live-stream restrictions guidance notes that Made for Kids content disables live chat and Super Chat. If your channel is managed by a multi-channel network (MCN), check applicable rights administration and terms as well. YouTube makes creators responsible for complying with applicable laws.
Plan for replays on a 24/7 channel
Super Chat has no stated 12-hour cutoff in the cited guidance, but YouTube’s archive rules create a separate issue for always-on broadcasts: streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not assume an uninterrupted 24/7 stream will produce a complete replay. If keeping a replay matters, make a local recording backup and decide whether your operation should segment the broadcast; YouTube’s archive guidance does not prescribe a best segmentation schedule. Understand revenue and moderation
YouTube says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google, calculated after local sales tax and, on iOS, App Store fees are deducted. YouTube does not state a publication year for this figure; it was verified in 2026. Super Chats and Stickers can be moderated like live-chat messages, and revenue reporting is available in YouTube Analytics. See Manage YouTube Super Chat and Super Stickers for Live Chat. Super Chat is a paid feature, not a donation tool.
If viewers cannot send a Super Chat
- The Supers controls are missing: check that the channel is in YPP, meets the age and location requirements, and has completed the applicable terms and review.
- The option is off for this broadcast: verify Super Chat is enabled in Studio and live chat is enabled for the stream.
- The video is restricted: check its audience and visibility settings, age restriction, and whether it is a fundraiser. Made for Kids settings disable live chat and Super Chat.
- Availability differs by viewer or location: consult YouTube’s current availability and policy page; regional availability and applicable rules matter.
