You can stream to YouTube from OBS on an OVHcloud VPS only if the chosen server can provide OBS’s Linux graphics and display requirements and sustain your encoding workload. Before purchasing or configuring a plan, verify its graphics capability, display arrangement, operating system, and outbound bandwidth; the available evidence does not establish which current OVHcloud plans meet those needs. The Hindi-language focus does not require a special encoder protocol or YouTube preset.
Can you run OBS on a Linux VPS and stream to YouTube?
Yes, provided the VPS can run OBS’s graphical Linux application and encode and upload your chosen stream reliably. OBS lists an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU and an X Window System or Wayland environment among its Linux requirements. A minimal headless VPS should not be assumed to satisfy them, and meeting basic compatibility requirements alone does not guarantee enough performance for a particular resolution, frame rate, encoder, and scene. See the OBS system requirements.
No current OVHcloud plan, region, or image is established here as suitable. Check the exact plan and region with OVHcloud before committing, including whether you can access a workable graphical session and sustain the required outbound traffic. A remote desktop or virtual display may be needed for OBS’s interface, but the right arrangement depends on the server and is not a universal OVHcloud setup.
Check these points before choosing a plan
- Graphics: confirm the available GPU or graphics arrangement meets OBS’s OpenGL requirement.
- Display: establish how OBS will access X11 or Wayland, or another workable graphical session.
- Performance: assess whether the server can encode your chosen output and run the sources and scene you need.
- Network: verify sustained outbound bandwidth with headroom for the total stream bitrate.
- Region and OS: choose a region and Linux image that fit your audience, workload, and OBS installation path.
OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can help adapt settings to the machine and network, but it does not confirm that an OVHcloud plan has suitable capabilities.

How to install OBS on the VPS
Use the installation instructions for the Linux distribution and release actually running on your server. OBS’s Linux installation page documents Ubuntu installation through its PPA and apt; package instructions can change, so check the current page for your Ubuntu release rather than copying commands meant for a different version. For other distributions, follow the corresponding distribution instructions there: OBS Linux Installation.
Installation does not resolve the display requirement: make sure the server has a workable graphical session for OBS before proceeding. These instructions do not imply that OBS has been installed or tested on a particular OVHcloud image.

How to prepare a scene for a Hindi channel
- Open OBS in the server’s graphical session. Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard and let it consider the available hardware and network, then review its output settings.
- Create a scene. Add only the sources the programme needs. OBS supports sources such as display or window capture and video capture devices; a VPS can encode only sources available to its OBS session.
- Plan local equipment access. A camera or microphone connected to your personal computer does not appear automatically on the VPS. Decide how those feeds will reach the server before relying on them in the scene. A capture card is an optional way to bring an HDMI source into OBS when the capture hardware is actually connected to the production system; no particular model’s compatibility is established.
- Check audio. Select the intended audio source and confirm OBS mixer meters respond. For speech-led Hindi programming, prioritize intelligible speech and test with representative voices, music, and scene movement; these are production choices, not a Hindi-specific YouTube preset.
- Preview the complete programme. Check framing, overlays, transitions, and audio while the scene is running, not just when it is idle.

How to connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s getting-started guidance says a channel must be verified, must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and that streamers must be at least 16. Check the current YouTube live-streaming requirements for your account.
- Create or select a live stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or select the one you intend to use.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. For encrypted ingestion, reveal and use the RTMPS URL. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP carried over TLS/SSL; its RTMPS guidance explains the secure connection.
- Enter them in OBS. Open OBS stream settings, choose YouTube or the applicable custom service option, and enter the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Set the encoder output. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance for your codec, resolution, and frame rate, then confirm the VPS can sustain that workload.
Encoder settings to check
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. For stereo audio, it recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps as advanced settings; for SDR it lists Rec. 709. Follow the current YouTube table for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than using one bitrate for every stream.

For one concrete reference point, YouTube’s table lists H.264 at 1080p30 with a recommended bitrate of 10 Mbps and a minimum of 5 Mbps. For H.264 at 720p30, its recommended rate is 4 Mbps. These are YouTube recommendations, not evidence that a particular VPS or network can sustain either rate.
How to test the stream before going public
- Start with a private or unlisted test. Use the actual scene, representative movement, and real programme audio.
- Check both previews. Inspect the OBS preview and the YouTube Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and timing problems.
- Watch stream health. Look for dropped frames, unstable delivery, or warnings in OBS and YouTube Studio. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health; its streaming tips recommend leaving about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate.
- Adjust and retest. If delivery is unstable, reduce the output workload or resolve the server/network limitation, then repeat the test before announcing the stream.
The OBS Project’s Quick Start Guide recommends running a test for a few minutes rather than jumping straight into a first stream. A short representative test is especially useful for spotting audio, source, and network problems before viewers arrive.

Common problems and what to check
- OBS will not open or has no usable display: check the VPS graphics capability and whether its X11/Wayland or other graphical-session arrangement is actually available. A headless image may not provide what OBS needs.
- Encoding overload or poor output: reduce resolution, frame rate, scene complexity, or other workload, then test again. Basic compatibility does not mean the server can handle every output configuration.
- YouTube does not receive the feed: check that the server URL and stream key match the selected Live Control Room stream, that the stream key has not changed, and that outbound connectivity is available.
- Unstable delivery or dropped frames: compare the total stream bitrate with sustained outbound capacity, preserve the recommended upload headroom, and check stream health in YouTube Studio.
- No camera or microphone appears: confirm the device is accessible to the VPS’s OBS session. Equipment attached only to a local computer needs a separate path to the server.
- Picture arrives but speech is unclear: verify the selected input and OBS mixer levels, then test with representative speech and programme sound before going live.
