You can run a YouTube playlist continuously with OBS on Windows by creating an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, connecting OBS with the stream URL and key, and adding the playlist as a media source. The setup is the same in India as elsewhere in the official YouTube and OBS instructions; what varies is whether your PC, power and upload connection can sustain it. Plan for monitoring and local recording: YouTube says a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
Before you set up: check eligibility and rights
- Your YouTube channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16, according to YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance. Confirm access in YouTube Studio before configuring OBS.
- Make sure you have the necessary rights to every video, image and audio track in the playlist. YouTube’s Terms of Service require the rights needed to livestream the material. A video being available online does not by itself give you permission to rebroadcast it.
- Streaming a playlist does not guarantee monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams and require original, authentic content; repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible.
Keep the playlist and stream within applicable local requirements for your content and use. The official setup guidance does not establish a special India-only encoder configuration.
1. Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or select an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. In OBS, you will enter both under the streaming service settings.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not share or show it on screen. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Start OBS when you are ready to test. YouTube’s encoder streaming guide explains that starting the encoder creates the watch page. If you scheduled the stream, check its preview in Live Control Room before selecting Go live.
2. Configure OBS on Windows
Let OBS make an initial configuration
Install OBS Studio for Windows, then open Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard. Follow the prompts so OBS can account for your PC and network when making its initial recommendations. Treat the result as a starting point, not proof that the system can run continuously: OBS notes that actual performance depends on encoder choice, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity.
OBS lists Windows 10 or Windows 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its basic Windows requirements, but compatible hardware alone does not guarantee streaming performance. See the OBS system requirements. Its encoding performance guidance explains that hardware encoding can reduce CPU workload by using specialized GPU components; encoder quality and performance impact vary by hardware and settings.

Build a scene with the playlist
- In the Scenes panel, add a scene for the broadcast.
- In Sources, choose + and add a Media Source. Select the video file or files you intend to play. Configure the source for the intended playlist behavior, such as looping, and verify that the files advance as expected. OBS’s Quick Start Guide covers adding sources and arranging a scene.
- Add only the visual elements you actually need, such as authorized artwork or a label. Preview the scene and check that nothing covers important content or appears outside the canvas.
- Watch the Audio Mixer while media plays. Its meters should move when the video has sound. If not, check the source’s audio settings and the mixer/device configuration; do not assume viewers can hear audio just because it plays on the PC.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream.
- Choose YouTube as the service and enter the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. If OBS offers an account connection option, the URL-and-key method follows YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Save the settings, return to the main OBS window, and confirm the correct scene is selected before starting the stream.
3. Choose output settings and test the stream
Use settings that fit your PC and connection
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval (no more than 4 seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. In OBS, review Settings → Output for encoder and bitrate options, and Settings → Video for output resolution and frame rate. OBS advises choosing output dimensions and frame rate for the intended stream; 60 FPS can demand more resources than 30 FPS.
There is no safe universal bitrate or resolution for every Windows PC or Indian internet connection. Pick values that your encoder can sustain and your measured upload can carry with headroom. YouTube recommends testing the connection and monitoring stream health; disruptions in connectivity can interrupt a broadcast. Its live streaming tips cover testing and health monitoring.

Run a real test before relying on the setup
- Play material representative of the actual playlist, including its motion and audio. Start the OBS stream and check the preview and health indicators in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Confirm the picture, sound and source transitions are correct, and look for dropped frames or health warnings in OBS and YouTube.
- If you need a replay, start a local recording and confirm the file is growing and has enough disk space. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends testing before a first stream; a brief test can reveal setup errors but does not prove that a PC or connection will stay reliable indefinitely.
- In OBS, review Settings → Advanced for automatic reconnect options. Enable and test them if appropriate for your setup. Reconnect can help after a disconnection, but it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
4. Plan for continuous operation and YouTube archives
A 24/7 stream depends on the PC, encoder, network and power remaining available, plus someone or a monitoring process noticing failures. YouTube recommends monitoring streams and checking archive files; a frozen playlist, failed encoder, lost connection, full disk or power interruption can still stop or degrade the broadcast. The reviewed platform guidance does not certify a Windows PC and home connection as a high-availability system.
Be especially careful if you need a YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the full program matters, schedule shorter sessions and keep a local recording backup. Check the recording during operation rather than assuming the archive will contain everything.

5. Troubleshoot common problems
