First choose what you mean by “donation alerts”: YouTube Super Chats and Super Stickers are paid fan-funding features, third-party tipping services can show their own tip alerts, and YouTube Giving is for charitable fundraising. For a highlighted YouTube chat purchase, enable Supers in YouTube Studio under Earn > Supers if your channel and stream are eligible. For external tips or custom on-screen alerts, configure a provider such as Streamlabs or StreamElements and add its alert widget to your broadcast software.

These options are not interchangeable. In particular, YouTube says, “You should be aware that Super Chat and Super Stickers aren’t crowdfunding or donation tools.” YouTube Help
How do I turn on Super Chat and Super Stickers?
Check eligibility before setup
YouTube’s monetization page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists an early-access YouTube Partner Program tier that includes Supers: 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. These are tier thresholds, not a guarantee that every channel or stream can use Supers. You must also meet Supers-specific requirements, be in a supported location, and accept and comply with the relevant terms and policies. Enable Supers in the YouTube Studio mobile app
- Open the YouTube Studio app and tap Earn at the bottom.
- Open the Supers card. If prompted, choose Get started.
- Tap Turn on and follow the on-screen setup. First-time users may be asked to accept the Commerce Product Module.

Review activity on desktop
In YouTube Studio, open Earn > Supers to review Supers activity and transactions. Once enabled, Supers can be available automatically on eligible live streams and Premieres when live chat is on. Tell viewers that Super Chats and Stickers are paid, highlighted chat interactions. Do not promise that every viewer can buy them: availability depends on YouTube’s rules and the viewer’s location and access.
How do I show donation alerts on my stream screen?
A YouTube chat purchase is not automatically the same as an alert overlay in your broadcast scene. If you want on-screen graphics or sounds, use an alert provider, configure the event types, and add its widget to the software sending your stream.

- Connect the right account. In the alert provider’s dashboard, connect or select the YouTube channel you are broadcasting from.
- Configure the alert. Choose the event types you want to display and set the visual and audio behavior. Streamlabs documents YouTube-specific subscriber, member, and Super Chat settings and customizable alert variations. Streamlabs Support
- Add the widget to your broadcast. Use the provider’s documented integration in Streamlabs Desktop, or add its widget/overlay URL as a browser source in OBS or other broadcast software. - Test in the scene you will use. Trigger a test from the provider dashboard, then confirm the alert is visible and audible in the correct scene before going live. Streamlabs recommends using its test function. Streamlabs Support
Keep private widget URLs private; anyone with access to a widget link may be able to misuse it.
Can I use Streamlabs or StreamElements with YouTube Live?

StreamElements AlertBox and tipping page
StreamElements documents creating an overlay, adding an AlertBox, and displaying that overlay in broadcast software using a browser source. External tips require a separate tipping page setup under Revenue > Tipping Settings; its !tip command can post the tipping-page link in chat. How do I set up a YouTube Giving fundraiser?
- Add your scheduled livestream to a YouTube Giving fundraiser.
- During the stream, viewers can use the donate control in live chat. If live chat is not enabled, YouTube says a donate button can appear instead.
- Keep the fundraiser separate from Supers: YouTube disables Supers on streams with live chat donations to avoid confusion.
YouTube says, “100% of your contribution goes to the nonprofit and YouTube will pay transaction fees.” This describes YouTube Giving; do not assume the same handling applies to third-party tipping services. YouTube Help: YouTube Giving

Why can’t I see the Supers option in YouTube Studio?
- Check the Earn area and current eligibility. Look in the Studio app’s Earn section for the Supers card or a Get started prompt. Confirm your channel meets the current YPP and Supers requirements, is in a supported location, and has accepted applicable terms. YouTube Supers requirements
- Check stream and video settings. Supers are unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, made-for-kids, or YouTube Giving fundraiser videos, and when live chat or comments are off. YouTube Help
- Confirm the fundraiser type. A stream with YouTube Giving live-chat donations cannot also use Supers. YouTube Help
Why are overlay alerts missing during the live stream?
- The test alert works, but a live event does not appear: check that the provider is connected to the correct YouTube account, that the specific event type is enabled, and that the overlay/browser source is present in the scene currently on air. Run the provider’s test again after correcting settings.
- The alert is invisible or silent: verify the source is enabled in the active scene and review its visibility, audio, and alert appearance settings in the provider dashboard.
- A viewer calls a Super Chat a donation: clarify that it is a paid fan-funding purchase supporting the creator; direct charitable contributions through YouTube Giving instead. YouTube Help YouTube Giving
