Jio’s advertised upload speed is useful context, but it does not guarantee the speed or stability of the route to YouTube. Check YouTube’s incoming preview and stream health before going live.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with access to YouTube Live and a broadcast created or scheduled in Live Control Room.
- FFmpeg installed on the computer that will stream, plus a local video file for the example below. Camera and capture-device inputs require different FFmpeg input arguments.
- A JioFiber connection tested from the actual streaming computer and location.
- The ingest address and stream key shown for the current YouTube stream. Treat the key like a password; do not publish it in a screenshot, article, or exposed script.
This guide uses a file input and H.264 video with AAC audio over RTMPS. YouTube also documents other codecs and transport options, but settings and bitrate recommendations differ by codec.
1. Create the YouTube broadcast and get its ingest details
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast.
- Copy the ingest address and stream key provided for that stream. Use the current values rather than an address or key from an old tutorial; the endpoint and path can vary.
- Keep the key private. A command-line key can be exposed through shell history or process listings on some systems, so use a protected secret-handling method where practical.
For ordinary streaming, YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP. Google specifies port 443 and a valid hostname and path; use the complete address YouTube provides rather than assuming a universal ingest host or application path. 2. Find a bitrate your JioFiber connection can sustain
Jio describes its postpaid plans as symmetric, meaning upload speed equals download speed. Its comparison page has examples of 30/30 Mbps, 100/100 Mbps, and 150/150 Mbps upload/download plans, shown with 30-day validity and unlimited data; displayed prices are plus GST. These are examples, not a promise that every subscriber has those offers. Plan availability, terms, and prices can vary by region. JioFiber plans · JioFiber FAQ

Jio’s terms qualify plan speeds as guaranteed up to the ISP node and note that a contention ratio applies. A plan’s headline speed—or one brief speed test—does not establish sustained end-to-end upload to YouTube. Test from the streaming computer and connection, preferably around the time you intend to broadcast, and observe the result over a sustained interval. If it fluctuates, choose a lower bitrate or resolution and test again. JioFiber terms
Choose a total stream rate comfortably below the lowest sustained upload result you observe, allowing room for audio and network variation. There is no established universal safety percentage for JioFiber-to-YouTube streaming, so avoid treating a fixed ratio as a guarantee.

3. Choose YouTube-compatible video and audio settings
YouTube’s general RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. H.264 with AAC is a straightforward starting point for FFmpeg. The following are YouTube’s H.264 bitrate recommendations in its encoder guidance checked in 2026—not guarantees of uninterrupted streaming or a particular viewer experience. YouTube encoder settings
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate | Keyframe interval at that frame rate |
|---|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | About 2 seconds (60 frames at 30 fps) |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | About 2 seconds (120 frames at 60 fps) |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | About 2 seconds (60 frames at 30 fps) |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps | About 2 seconds (120 frames at 60 fps) |
These values apply to H.264; YouTube publishes separate ingest ranges for AV1 and H.265, so do not transfer the H.264 figures to those codecs. A two-second GOP is a practical target, and keyframes should never be more than four seconds apart. The YouTube Live API warns that a longer keyframe interval can cause buffering. 4. Start FFmpeg with a local video file
This template reads a file in real time and encodes a 720p30-style H.264 stream at 4 Mbps with AAC audio. Replace every placeholder, including the complete RTMPS URL, with values appropriate to your file, current YouTube stream, and measured upload. The endpoint shown is structural only; YouTube supplies the actual hostname and path.
ffmpeg -re -i INPUT
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 4M -maxrate 4M -bufsize 8M
-g 60 -pix_fmt yuv420p
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://INGEST_HOST:443/APP/STREAM_KEY"
-rereads a file at its native rate instead of sending it faster than real time.-b:vsets the video bitrate;-maxrateand-bufsizeconfigure rate-control behavior. Exact encoder options depend on your FFmpeg build. See the FFmpeg documentation.-g 60sets a 60-frame GOP, which is two seconds at 30 fps. If you change frame rate, adjust GOP length to keep the intended interval.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100encodes audio as AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. Check that your input contains the audio you want to send.-f flvselects the output container commonly used for RTMP/RTMPS ingest.
The example does not resize the input or force its frame rate. If the source is not already appropriate for your chosen output, add deliberate scaling and frame-rate options and confirm the resulting stream in YouTube’s preview. If the source already has suitable codecs, frame rate, keyframes, and audio, stream copy may avoid re-encoding; verify those properties first. This file command cannot be used unchanged for a camera, capture card, or desktop source, whose input arguments depend on the operating system and device.

5. Verify the incoming stream before going live
- Run the command and open the broadcast’s preview in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Confirm that the preview shows video and that audio is present.
- Check the stream-health status and wait for a healthy incoming signal before clicking “Go Live” or sharing the broadcast link.
YouTube’s health diagnostics can report conditions such as videoBitrateLow, framerateMismatch, and noAudioStream. Use those reports alongside FFmpeg’s output to narrow down the issue. YouTube Live Streams API
Troubleshooting connection, buffering, and audio problems
| Symptom | Likely checks and fixes |
|---|---|
| FFmpeg cannot connect; SSL error or timeout | Verify that you used the current stream’s complete RTMPS address, including its hostname and path, and that the URL uses port 443. An old or incomplete endpoint, incorrect port, or TLS setup can prevent connection. |
| Preview connects but bitrate is low or playback buffers | Lower the video bitrate or resolution, repeat a sustained upload test, and check that FFmpeg can encode in real time. Confirm the keyframe interval is about two seconds and no more than four seconds. |
| Video appears but audio is missing | Check that the selected input has the intended audio track and that FFmpeg is selecting and encoding it. Confirm audio in the Control Room preview. |
| Frame-rate mismatch or unstable output | Compare the source frame rate with the intended output and YouTube’s health report. Adjust the output settings deliberately, then verify again in the preview. |
| Upload varies even though the plan speed seems sufficient | Measure from the actual streaming computer and location over a sustained interval; the plan rate does not establish the route’s available throughput to YouTube. Reduce bitrate or resolution if results fluctuate. A wired connection can be a useful troubleshooting measure when Wi-Fi coverage or local network conditions may be involved, but it is not a stated YouTube requirement. |
Copyright and YouTube Live readiness
Before broadcasting a file, make sure you have the rights or permissions needed for every video, music track, image, and other material in it. A technically healthy stream does not establish that the content complies with YouTube’s copyright rules or other channel policies. Review YouTube’s current requirements in the account and Live Control Room before scheduling or starting a broadcast; no specific channel eligibility status can be inferred from FFmpeg or JioFiber settings.
