YouTube Studio schedules the live event; an encoder or streaming service sends and automates the video. To play prerecorded items continuously in a YouTube Live stream, schedule their playout in a tool that supports it—a regular YouTube playlist does not create a live feed. For a scheduled one-off show, use YouTube Studio with a software or hardware encoder.
First, choose what you want to schedule
Three separate controls are often called “scheduling,” but they do different jobs:
- Live broadcast time: when the YouTube event is scheduled to begin.
- Video publication time: when an uploaded video changes from private/scheduled to public. This is not a live broadcast.
- Media playout: which prerecorded item the encoder or service sends, and when it sends it.
Scheduled live events
For a documentary premiere, interview, or other creator-led event, schedule the event in YouTube Studio and send its program from an encoder at the appointed time.
Continuous prerecorded programming
For a continuous feed of documentaries or other prerecorded items, use an encoder or cloud playout service that explicitly supports continuous or scheduled prerecorded media. The service must send the feed to YouTube; arranging videos in a YouTube playlist alone does not do this.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Scheduled regular videos
If viewers do not need a live event, upload the video and schedule its publication instead. YouTube keeps a scheduled upload private until its selected publication time, when it becomes public.
What you need before setup
- A channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so check access before the event.
- A software encoder, hardware encoder, or cloud service that matches the workflow you chose.
- The YouTube stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password; reset it there if it may have been exposed.
- For prerecorded programming, video files and a playout tool that can sequence or schedule them.
- Permission to stream all included footage, music, images, and other material. Rights concerns are especially important for continuous programming.
Set up a scheduled live event in YouTube Studio
- Confirm channel readiness. Sign in to the channel and make sure live streaming is available. If this is the first enablement, allow for YouTube’s stated window of up to 24 hours.
- Schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, open Manage in Live Control Room, then choose Schedule stream. Create a broadcast or reuse settings from an earlier stream. Set the title, start time, privacy, and other event details. A scheduled event can appear as upcoming, be shared, and offer viewers a reminder.
- Connect the encoder. If it offers YouTube as a destination, select it and authorize or provide the requested details. Otherwise, copy YouTube’s stream URL into the encoder’s server or RTMP field and paste the stream key into its key field. Confirm that the encoder is connected to the correct scheduled event.
- Prepare the program. For a live-hosted show, choose the camera, microphone, screen, or other sources in the encoder. For a prerecorded sequence, configure the sequence in a tool that supports that playout workflow; do not assume the YouTube playlist will feed the encoder.
- Start the feed and verify it. Start the encoder at the event time. Check that video and audio appear in the Live Control Room preview. Select Go live when ready, unless auto-start is enabled for the broadcast.
- End and verify. End the event in Studio and stop sending the feed when appropriate. Check the public watch page and the channel’s Live tab for the event and its archive. YouTube Help says encoder streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived.
Automate a continuous prerecorded playlist
A continuous prerecorded feed needs playout automation in addition to a YouTube event. Choose a tool whose documented features cover the way you intend to run the channel: a repeating loop, a timed schedule, or a mixture. Before committing, confirm supported formats, storage and egress charges, monitoring, restart behavior, YouTube integration, rights workflow, and cancellation or export options with the provider.
Options identified in YouTube’s encoder directory
YouTube’s verified-encoder directory identifies Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams, Upstream for browser-based 24/7 streaming, and AJA HELO Plus PlayToStream for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. These directory listings are options to evaluate, not independent performance tests or endorsements. Verify current compatibility, terms, and operating limits with each vendor.

Match the setup to the operating model
| Approach | Best suited to | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio plus a local software encoder | Scheduled creator-led events and setups where a local computer can run the encoder | Operating-system compatibility, input sources, stream-key handling, scheduling, computer uptime, monitoring, and restart behavior |
| Cloud playout service | Continuous or recurring prerecorded programming without leaving a computer running | Playlist and schedule controls, supported formats, storage and egress charges, monitoring, YouTube integration, rights workflow, cancellation, and export options |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | Standalone operation or production workflows with hardware playout | Scheduled-media features, supported resolution, frame rate and codecs, storage, controls, connectivity, backup and recovery, and total cost |
| YouTube Live Streaming API | Custom scheduling applications and management of many recurring events | OAuth authorization, API quota, error handling, broadcast lifecycle, time zones, key security, and monitoring |
There is no established independent performance or current price comparison among these options here. Check the vendors’ current terms directly rather than treating a directory description as a measured reliability guarantee.

Google’s API guide says recurring broadcasts at different times can reuse one stream when the transmission setup is the same. Separate streams may be appropriate for concurrent broadcasts that cannot share settings; different channels need different streams. Understand auto-start, auto-stop, and stream reuse
Auto-start and auto-stop manage the broadcast’s lifecycle; they do not manage a playlist. Auto-start can begin the broadcast when video arrives on its bound stream. Auto-stop can end it around one minute after the channel owner stops sending video. The encoder or service still determines what plays next and when.
For ordinary events at different times, Google describes configuring an encoder once and binding scheduled broadcasts to the same stream. Reuse it only when the events can share that transmission setup. A single reused stream is not a way to send unrelated feeds simultaneously.
Rights, archives, and monetization checks
- Clear the rights. Use footage, music, and other material for which the channel has the required rights. A video being available to add to a playlist does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it live.
- Check monetization eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be eligible to monetize videos to enable automated ads on a broadcast. Scheduling a stream does not guarantee ad revenue.
- Confirm the archive. YouTube Help says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the Live tab and the event’s watch-page visibility after the broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a continuous prerecorded YouTube feed, StreamNeo lets you upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it does not stream from a camera. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers it.

The channel cannot schedule or start a live stream
Check that live streaming is enabled and that the channel has no account restriction preventing it. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours; resolve access issues before the planned start.
The scheduled page exists, but there is no preview
The event schedule does not produce video. Confirm the encoder is running, is pointed at YouTube’s stream URL, and has the correct stream key. Check the encoder’s connection status and the selected event in Live Control Room.

The feed arrives, but the event has not gone live
Check the preview in Live Control Room and select Go live if auto-start is not enabled. Auto-start only responds to incoming video on the bound stream; it does not select a scheduled playlist or start media playout.
The wrong video plays, or the sequence stops
Review the playlist or schedule inside the encoder or cloud playout service. Confirm that the selected files and order are correct, that the service supports looping or scheduled playback as needed, and that it is still sending the feed. A YouTube playlist does not control live playout order.
The broadcast ends after the encoder stops
This can be expected if auto-stop is enabled: YouTube may close the event around one minute after the feed stops. To keep the broadcast active, address the encoder or service interruption rather than relying on auto-stop settings to restart media.
A stream key may have been exposed
Reset the key in Live Control Room, then replace it in the encoder or service before sending another feed. Do not share screenshots or configuration exports that reveal the key.
