To schedule a YouTube radio broadcast for a local time, create a scheduled live event in YouTube Studio and separately configure an encoder or playout system to send the audio feed. For a recurring schedule such as 7 p.m. every weekday in Europe/London, calculate each event’s UTC start time from the named time zone for that date; do not assume YouTube will convert or repeat a local-time schedule automatically.
What YouTube schedules—and what it does not
A scheduled YouTube live stream creates an upcoming event and a watch page that you can share. It does not create the radio programme or start the audio feed by itself: an encoder must send the stream to YouTube, and any unattended playback or restart logic must be configured separately.
Keep three jobs distinct: YouTube holds the event and its audience-facing page; your encoder sends the audio-video feed; and your schedule or automation determines when that feed should start and stop. A scheduled event is not, by itself, a continuous 24/7 radio service.
Create the scheduled live event in YouTube Studio
- Check channel eligibility early. Enable live streaming and verify that the channel can go live before planning a launch. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Open the Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go live, then open Manage.
- Schedule the event. Select Schedule stream. Create a new event or reuse settings from a previous stream. Set its title, description, thumbnail, visibility and intended start time. YouTube says scheduled streams can be promoted and shared, and viewers may be able to set reminders.
- Connect the encoder. Use the event’s YouTube server URL and stream key. If your encoder has a YouTube destination, select it and choose the correct event; otherwise enter the server URL and key in the encoder’s stream settings.
- Check the incoming feed. Start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Follow YouTube’s go-live flow for the event; do not assume that scheduling the event also starts the encoder or makes the feed live.
For a first broadcast, YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event, starting it at least 15 minutes before, and monitoring stream quality continuously. Before the audience arrives, check that the preview has sound, the feed is stable, and the event is accessible with the intended visibility.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Make a recurring schedule follow local time
For a schedule such as “every weekday at 7:00 p.m. Europe/London,” store the recurrence as 7 p.m. in the named time zone, then calculate the corresponding UTC instant for each event date. Schedule each broadcast at that instant. A named time zone includes the applicable seasonal clock rules; a fixed offset such as UTC+0 does not.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API expects an absolute ISO 8601 scheduled start time, not a recurring local-time rule. Its documentation gives 2026-10-30T19:00:00Z as an example timestamp: the trailing Z means UTC, so that example is not a universal 7 p.m. local start time. Generate a fresh UTC timestamp for every occurrence, including after daylight-saving changes.
Do not assume that YouTube Studio provides a live-stream time-zone selector just because its scheduled-video publishing workflow does. The documented time-zone selector for scheduled video publication applies to uploaded videos; it does not establish the same control for scheduled live broadcasts. Confirm the current live-stream interface directly before relying on a local-time setting.

- Use the audience’s intended named time zone, not an offset copied from today.
- Check the UTC conversion for dates on both sides of daylight-saving transitions and calendar changes.
- Confirm the displayed event time in YouTube Studio after scheduling it.
- If your schedule is generated by software, test its date and time-zone handling independently; do not presume the encoder or YouTube will supply the recurrence logic.
Choose Studio or the Live Streaming API
| Route | Best fit | What you manage |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio | A creator setting up individual events or reusing event settings. | Create the event, set its details and time, connect the encoder, inspect the preview and follow the go-live flow. |
| Live Streaming API | Software that needs to generate and manage multiple scheduled broadcasts. | Generate a distinct future UTC start time for each event, create the broadcast resource, bind it to a stream, and handle scheduling and start/stop behavior. |
In Google’s API model, a liveBroadcast represents the scheduled event, while a liveStream represents the incoming audio-video feed and its stream settings. A common recurring-event design reuses one liveStream—so the encoder can remain configured for that feed—while creating separate liveBroadcast resources and binding each event to it. The documented scenario permits only one event to be live at a time.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWhen inserting a broadcast, the API requires snippet.title, snippet.scheduledStartTime and status.privacyStatus. It accepts an ISO 8601 date-time and rejects start times that are not in the future or are too far away to schedule reliably. Optional fields include a scheduled end time and settings such as auto-start, auto-stop, recording and DVR, subject to support and state restrictions. If using these options, verify their behavior for your broadcast state rather than treating them as a substitute for encoder automation.
Plan for audio-first playout and continuous operation
Choose and configure an encoder or playout system that can send your radio feed to YouTube. The standard workflow is to start the encoder, wait for the Live Control Room preview, and take the event live. If the programme is prerecorded and must play unattended, separately configure and test the playback schedule, broadcast start and stop behavior, and recovery from interruptions.

YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish a reliable single-event design for uninterrupted, multi-day radio or guarantee how longer streams will be archived. Treat event duration, transitions between broadcasts, restart recovery and archival needs as separate design decisions to verify. For high-production-value events YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders, but such equipment is an optional route, not a prerequisite for a basic audio-first stream.
Protect the stream key and check the broadcast
YouTube describes stream keys as a stream’s “password and address.” Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it through Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement.
- Confirm the encoder is using the server URL and key for the intended event or stream.
- Inspect the preview for audible, intact programme audio and any expected video.
- Check the event’s visibility and watch page from the perspective of the intended audience.
- Monitor the feed around the start and during the broadcast; an event page can exist even when the encoder feed is missing or faulty.
- Review rights for every recording, music track and other material you plan to stream. YouTube’s copyright safety checklist can help you organize that review: copyright safety checklist.
Troubleshoot common schedule and feed problems
The event starts at the wrong local time
Check whether the scheduled value was entered or generated as UTC, and whether the recurrence used a named time zone or a fixed offset. Recalculate the UTC instant for that exact date, especially around a daylight-saving transition, then correct the event time.

The watch page exists but there is no programme
The scheduled event does not supply the feed. Check that the encoder or playout system is running and configured with the correct server URL and stream key, then wait for the preview in Live Control Room before taking the event live.
The encoder preview does not appear
Verify the destination, server URL and stream key, and confirm the encoder is actually sending. If the key may be wrong or exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder. Check the preview again before relying on the event.
A recurring event was not created for the next date
A scheduled broadcast is an event, not an automatic local-time recurrence. In Studio, create the next event or reuse settings; with API automation, generate and insert a separate future broadcast with its own correct UTC start time.

A long-running radio stream needs an archive or uninterrupted playback
Do not infer a multi-day archive or continuous-operation guarantee from the under-12-hour archive behavior. Verify the duration, event transitions, recording requirements and recovery plan for the design you intend to run.
