To add a donate button to an always-on YouTube channel, create a YouTube Giving fundraiser in YouTube Studio and attach the specific scheduled livestream that should display it. The donate control appears after the fundraiser’s start date. Do not assume one fundraiser automatically covers every future stream in a continuous feed: verify the scheduled stream is attached and check its viewer-facing page.
Check whether your channel can use YouTube Giving
YouTube’s published criteria say a channel should be based in a supported location, have at least 10,000 subscribers, be in the YouTube Partner Program, and not be designated “made for kids.” YouTube notes that some channels outside those criteria may still see fundraising access. The practical check is whether Earn > Giving is available in your channel’s YouTube Studio. Check YouTube’s current [supported locations and eligibility details](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6319255?hl=en), since the list can change.
The nonprofit also has to qualify. YouTube Giving supports U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) public charities that belong to Google for Nonprofits, opt into online fundraising through GuideStar, and meet YouTube monetization policies. If the organization you want is missing from the selection tool, check those requirements or request it; creator requests can take up to five business days. Create the fundraiser and attach the scheduled livestream
- Sign in to YouTube Studio on the channel with Giving access.
- Open Earn > Giving, then choose Get started > Create a fundraiser.
- Select an available U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit. If it is not listed, use the request option and allow up to five business days for the request.
- Enter the fundraiser’s title and description, and add collaborators if needed. YouTube suggests a goal and duration; you can change them.
- Add the scheduled livestream that should show the donate feature. You can also begin fundraiser setup from Live Control Room’s Advanced Settings while preparing a stream.
- Publish the fundraiser. After its start date, check the scheduled stream’s watch page or live chat to confirm the donate control appears.
For a channel that broadcasts continuously, treat this as a stream-specific attachment. YouTube’s public setup instructions describe adding scheduled livestreams; they do not say that attaching one stream binds the fundraiser to every later broadcast. Confirm the intended scheduled stream appears under the fundraiser, and check the actual viewer-facing page after the fundraiser has started. Where viewers find the donate control
On a fundraising stream with live chat enabled, viewers can donate using the icon in chat. If chat is off, YouTube places the donate button beside or below the stream. On mobile, viewers need to hold the phone in portrait orientation to see live chat donations. You can monitor donations in Live Control Room’s Viewer Activity Widget. Understand the fundraising and monetization trade-offs
- Live Chat Donations replace the former “Super Chat for Good” flow.
- Super Chat and Super Stickers are disabled on streams using Live Chat Donations.
- You cannot use members-only live chat with the donate button, and Super Thanks is unavailable on videos with donations.
- YouTube says adding a fundraiser does not affect ads.
- Google says 100% of a viewer’s contribution goes to the nonprofit and YouTube pays transaction fees. Network for Good collects and distributes donations at Google’s request; distributions are typically monthly, while amounts under $10 are distributed annually. Network for Good has legal control of collected donations and may select another qualifying nonprofit if it cannot distribute funds to the intended recipient. The creator does not receive these donations directly.
Decide whether chat donations are worth those interaction and monetization trade-offs before attaching the fundraiser. If chat is enabled, the donation control is in chat; with chat off, it appears beside or below the player.

Prepare an always-on stream without assuming it is one event
To livestream at all, the channel must have live streaming enabled, be verified, and have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube says streamers must be at least 16. Supported routes include mobile, webcam, encoder, and console; encoder streaming is suited to more involved productions with overlays or external audio and video equipment. Keep the fundraiser attached to the scheduled stream you intend viewers to watch, rather than assuming that an uninterrupted channel feed behaves like a single event for fundraising purposes. Recheck the campaign start date and the donate control if you change or replace the scheduled stream.

Plan for replays separately
YouTube’s currently cited material does not establish a definitive maximum continuous-stream duration or archive cutoff. A full replay of an always-on broadcast therefore cannot be promised. If replay retention matters, consult YouTube’s current [live-streaming tips](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/12917058) and make a local recording rather than relying on an archive of the complete feed. If YouTube Giving is not available
You can use an end screen to link viewers to an external fundraising site such as GoFundMe or JustGiving, an option suggested by [Google for Nonprofits](https://support.google.com/nonprofits/answer/17231715?hl=en). That routes viewers away from YouTube and is not the native YouTube Giving donate button. Check the external platform’s current setup and fundraising terms before linking it.
