To loop a prerecorded video on YouTube Live from a Windows laptop, add it to an OBS scene as a Media Source, enable Loop, connect OBS to YouTube with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, then preview the feed and click Go live. The looping happens in OBS—not through a YouTube “loop livestream” switch. This setup works wherever YouTube’s general live-streaming requirements are met; the documented encoder workflow does not identify a separate India-specific setup.
Before you set up the stream
- Sign in to the YouTube channel that will host the broadcast. YouTube’s current help guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. It also states that livestreamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- Have a local video file ready, or install VLC if you plan to loop a playlist through OBS’s VLC Video source.
- Check that you have permission to stream every video and audio track in the file. Copyright checks and monetization eligibility are separate issues, discussed below.
Choose how OBS will repeat the video

For a single documentary or other long recording, Media Source is the simpler choice. Use VLC Video when the broadcast should move through several files in sequence.
Set up a single-video loop in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, add a scene in the Scenes panel and give it a recognizable name, such as “YouTube loop.”
- Add the file. In the Sources panel, select + → Media Source. Create a new source, then browse to and select your video file.
- Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, check Loop. Leave the source visible in the scene.
- Fit the picture. Check the preview canvas. If the video does not fill the canvas as intended, right-click it in the preview and use Transform to fit it to the screen. Avoid stretching the image out of its original proportions.
- Check the sound. Play the source and watch the OBS audio mixer. Confirm the expected audio meter moves and that the source is not muted. Listen to a short preview at a sensible volume.
- Test the end of the file. Let the video reach its end in a local preview so you can confirm that it starts again. For a playlist, add a VLC Video source, select the playlist, enable Loop Playlist, and verify the transition from its final item back to its first.
OBS property labels can shift between releases, but the key behavior is that the loop option belongs to the media source. A successful YouTube connection will not make a non-looping source repeat by itself.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open the Stream tab. Create a stream or select an existing scheduled or previous stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup steps.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it on screen. If you believe it has been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. If YouTube is available as a service, select it and follow the connection options shown. Otherwise, select a custom service, paste the YouTube stream URL into the server field, and paste the stream key into the key field.
- Use RTMPS when the YouTube server option and encoder support it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure version of RTMP. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance explains the connection details.
Choose output quality the laptop and connection can sustain
YouTube automatically detects incoming resolution and frame rate by default and transcodes the incoming stream into formats for viewers. For H.264, its published recommended bitrate examples are:

These are YouTube Help recommendations, not a guarantee about what a particular laptop, router, or Indian internet connection can sustain. The full YouTube bitrate table varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate. As a practical starting point, try 720p30 or 1080p30 only if the laptop and upload connection remain stable in a test; do not treat either setting as a platform requirement. In OBS, configure the encoder and output resolution to match the quality you intend to send, and use the relevant YouTube bitrate guidance rather than choosing a bitrate just because the laptop can encode it.
Before a long broadcast, test the same kind of audio and motion you expect to stream. Run an internet speed test, send a short test stream, check that YouTube’s Live Control Room preview is clear and audible, and monitor stream health. YouTube recommends testing and checking stream health; a speed test alone does not prove the stream will remain stable. See YouTube’s encoder settings and live-streaming tips.

Preview, start, and end the broadcast
- Start the encoder in OBS by selecting Start Streaming.
- Wait for the feed preview to appear in YouTube Live Control Room. Check the picture, audio, and stream-health status before making the event public.
- When the preview is ready, select Go live in Live Control Room. Keep an eye on stream health and OBS’s audio mixer during the broadcast.
- When finished, end the broadcast in YouTube’s live workflow, then stop the encoder in OBS as directed by the on-screen controls. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on automatic archiving for a stream lasting longer than that. See YouTube’s encoder workflow.
Copyright and monetization are separate checks
Use media you have the right to stream
YouTube states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If it detects third-party content, a placeholder may replace the stream; an ongoing match can lead to interruption or termination. YouTube also warns that a license alone may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and its Terms of Service. Make sure your permissions cover the intended use and territory; do not assume that finding a video online makes it available to rebroadcast.
A working loop is not a monetization guarantee
YouTube’s monetization policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and says repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible for monetization. The policy applies to live streams. A video can therefore loop technically while still failing monetization requirements if the channel’s material is repetitive or lacks meaningful original value. This is distinct from copyright: looping neither automatically earns ad revenue nor automatically proves a copyright violation. Check YouTube’s channel monetization policies for the current policy.

Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
