Set up the live stream in YouTube Studio, label it clearly as a replay, choose a recognizable thumbnail, and schedule it if viewers need a reminder. A YouTube playlist can organize past broadcasts for viewers, but YouTube’s published guidance does not document a built-in feature that automatically rotates playlist videos into a live broadcast. That requires a separate delivery method.
Set up the gaming rerun in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create a live stream, or select a previous stream and choose to reuse its settings if that is more convenient. Reusing settings copies prior metadata and settings, but you can edit them before publishing. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- Enter a title and description that identify the game and make clear that viewers are watching a rerun, replay, or previously recorded session. Add an episode, mode, or session label if it helps distinguish this broadcast from other entries in the series.
- Set the stream type to Gaming when appropriate, and select the correct game if Studio offers that field for the stream. Do not rely on tags as the main discovery strategy: YouTube says tags have a minimal discovery role except when content is commonly misspelled.
- Choose a thumbnail that matches the game and the specific session. Keep the visual treatment consistent across the series, but make any episode or mode difference easy to spot. The exact thumbnail controls and requirements can vary in Studio; confirm the current options in the interface before publishing.
- Check the preview and metadata, then schedule the stream or go live when ready. Scheduling can create a shareable watch page and let viewers set reminders. For gameplay, YouTube describes an encoder as a common way to send the stream; scheduling the event alone does not deliver the video.
For a scheduled stream, be accurate about what is happening: if the broadcast is prerecorded gameplay, do not title or describe it in a way that implies the gameplay itself is happening live. You can still tell viewers that the channel is broadcasting live while the footage is a replay.
Write a title viewers can understand at a glance
Use a repeatable pattern that puts the most useful information first. For example:
[Game] replay: [episode, mode or session]
Or, if the series is explicitly a rerun:
[Game] rerun stream — [session or episode]
Keep the word “replay” or “rerun” visible rather than burying it after decorative wording. Distinguish sessions only when the distinction is meaningful to viewers; avoid implying a new match, current event, or live commentary if the video does not contain one. Put useful context in the description, such as the original session date when known, playlist link, and whether chat or commentary will be attended during the broadcast.

Choose a thumbnail system for the series
- Use a consistent visual cue for the recurring rerun series so returning viewers recognize it.
- Make the game identifiable, and include a short session or episode distinction only if it remains legible at small sizes.
- Ensure the image reflects the actual recording rather than suggesting a different game or event.
- Check the selected thumbnail in the current Live Control Room before scheduling. YouTube’s guidance cited here does not establish exact dimensions, file limits, or a universal sequence of thumbnail-editing steps for this workflow.
Use playlists to organize archives, not as proof of automatic live rotation
YouTube documents playlists as a way to organize live stream archives and highlight clips. After a broadcast, make its archive public if you want viewers to find it, then add it to the playlist for the game or rerun series. YouTube’s live stream promotion guidance covers promoting streams and organizing archives.
A playlist is for arranging videos for viewers; the cited YouTube instructions do not establish that selecting a playlist automatically turns its existing recordings into a continuous live broadcast or rotates them on a live stream. If automatic playback of prerecorded videos as a live broadcast is the goal, plan for a separate streaming workflow rather than assuming the playlist itself performs that job.

Schedule and maintain a sustainable cadence
Schedule the event in advance when a watch page, promotion, or viewer reminders are useful. YouTube’s encoder streaming guide describes scheduling and encoder-based streaming, and says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Afterward, review the archive’s visibility and add it to the appropriate playlist.
Choose a cadence you can maintain, and tell viewers when the schedule changes. YouTube’s live upload schedule tips recommend considering frequency, consistency, available content, and production cost versus return.
