Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo keep a prerecorded podcast playing continuously in OBS, enable Loop on a single Media Source or Loop Playlist on a VLC Video source. Then configure your streaming destination in OBS, turn on Automatic Reconnect, and test the full setup. OBS can restart playback and reconnect after some interruptions, but it cannot guarantee an uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast: your computer, power, network, and destination platform all matter.
Choose the right playback source
Use a Media Source for one episode you want to repeat. Use a VLC Video source for multiple episodes. In either case, the loop setting controls whether playback begins again when the file or playlist ends; simply leaving OBS open does not make media repeat.
| Setup | OBS source | Loop setting | What to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| One episode repeated | Media Source | Enable Loop | Best for a single local file. The source also has a separate “Restart playback when source becomes active” option. |
| Several episodes in sequence | VLC Video | Leave Loop Playlist enabled | Requires VLC installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Choose whether playback should continue when the source is hidden if your scenes change. |
These settings are documented in the OBS Project’s Media Sources guide (published January 11, 2022). It lists common video formats including MP4 and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV.
Set up a single episode to repeat
- Create a scene: In OBS, add or select the scene you will use for the broadcast.
- Add the file: In the Sources panel, select + → Media Source. Name it, choose whether to create a new source or use an existing one, and select the local episode file.
- Enable looping: In the Media Source properties, check Loop. OBS describes this option as making the file play again after playback completes; it is off by default in the documented guide.
- Check activation behavior: Decide whether Restart playback when source becomes active fits your scene setup. This controls what happens when the source becomes active; it is distinct from Loop.
- Check the result: Start playback and confirm that both video and audio are present. For a meaningful loop test, let the episode reach its end and verify that it starts again.
Set up a playlist of episodes
- Install VLC: Install the version matching your OBS architecture. The OBS Media Sources guide specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- Add the source: In the Sources panel, select + → VLC Video and create the source.
- Build the playlist: Add the episode files in the order you want them played. Check that each file is available at its selected location.
- Keep the playlist looping: Leave Loop Playlist enabled. OBS documents it as restarting the source after it runs out of media files; the guide lists it as on by default.
- Set visibility behavior: If your scene design hides the VLC source at times, choose whether it should continue playing while not visible. Otherwise, a scene change may affect playback.
- Test the sequence: Watch or listen through transitions between files and the end of the playlist. Confirm that the first episode starts again when the playlist finishes.
Connect OBS to your streaming destination
In OBS, open Settings → Stream and follow the current setup instructions from the platform you plan to use. Select the appropriate service and enter or connect the required stream credentials as directed by that platform. A stream key is sensitive: do not share it publicly, and follow the platform’s instructions if you need to replace or revoke it.

The destination service and account determine eligibility, ingest requirements, stream duration limits, and what happens after a long interruption. Those details are not universal OBS settings. Check the destination’s current official live-streaming rules and setup guidance before scheduling a continuous broadcast; this includes its rules on copyright and reused content. The OBS setup alone does not establish that a particular account may stream continuously.
Configure recovery and keep the computer available
- In OBS, open Settings → Advanced and configure Automatic Reconnect. OBS makes this recovery option available, but it is not a guarantee that every outage will recover.
- Prevent the computer from sleeping or shutting down during the broadcast. Keep OBS running, and check power, network stability, and operating-system updates or restart schedules.
- Monitor OBS and the destination’s live status, especially at the start and after any network interruption. A reconnect can restore the connection without proving that media playback or the destination’s broadcast is healthy.
- Before relying on the stream, test the entire intended playlist, the loop back to its start, and the outgoing connection. OBS notes that 60 fps can be demanding; consult its Overview Guide for output resolution and frame-rate guidance, and test system resources in advance.
Troubleshoot a stream that stops or behaves unexpectedly
- The episode ends and stays stopped: Open Media Source properties and enable Loop. For several episodes, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
- The playlist source is missing: Install VLC. If OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC, as required by the OBS guide.
- Playback stops after a scene change: Check whether the source is hidden and review the VLC source’s visibility behavior. For a Media Source, distinguish activation/restart behavior from the Loop setting.
- A file will not play: Verify the file path and format, then test the media in the relevant player. OBS lists common formats in its Media Sources guide.
- OBS loses the outgoing connection: Automatic Reconnect may help, but inspect the network and destination status. OBS’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide suggests trying a different server when appropriate and checking whether security software or network equipment is interfering.
- The stream does not come back as expected: Check OBS’s connection status and the destination platform’s live dashboard, then follow that platform’s current recovery instructions. Reconnect behavior and stream-key requirements depend on the service.
- The computer or network goes offline: OBS cannot continue sending a stream from a computer that has shut down or lost connectivity. Restore the machine and connection, then confirm playback and the destination broadcast before leaving it unattended again.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube stream of uploaded podcast recordings, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos without requiring OBS, a computer, or your home connection to stay on. It streams the files as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
