Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To run a 24/7 YouTube stream with Restreamer, you need a playlist player that continuously sends video, a Restreamer instance to publish that feed, and a YouTube Live stream configured to receive it. Restreamer’s documented workflow covers receiving a source and publishing it to YouTube; its reviewed documentation does not establish a built-in scheduler for looping local video files. Treat the playlist player as a separate component unless the documentation for your exact Restreamer release confirms otherwise.
How the setup fits together
The stream has three parts, and each has a different job:
- Playlist player: plays the recordings in sequence, repeats the playlist, and emits a continuous video signal.
- Restreamer: receives that signal and publishes it to YouTube.
- YouTube Live Control Room: supplies the stream key and controls the broadcast’s title, description, visibility, preview, and live status.
Restreamer documents sources including HTTP/HTTPS (such as HLS and DASH), RTP, RTSP, RTMP, and SRT. The player you choose must be able to output a source in a format Restreamer can receive. The reviewed Restreamer pages do not identify a preferred playlist player or document native sequencing of local files, so verify those capabilities for the exact software and version you plan to use.
Set up the stream step by step
1. Check YouTube Live access and prepare the broadcast
Open YouTube Studio and follow the current prompts to enable live streaming and create a stream in Live Control Room. Google’s live-production guide says first-time activation can take 24 hours, but account workflows can change; check what Studio shows for your channel rather than relying on that timing. Set the broadcast title, description, and visibility in Studio.

Together with Gigabit LAN, Wi‑Fi, and Bluetooth, you get a fast, flexible, and productive connected environment – wired or wireless.
Before choosing playlist content, confirm you have the necessary rights for every item’s live transmission, rebroadcast, audio, video, and any on-demand archive. YouTube’s guidance also requires livestreams to comply with its Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. This applies to embedded footage and background music as well as the main recording.
2. Choose and test a separate playlist source
Set up a player that can continuously play your recordings in order and repeat them, then configure it to send a supported network source to Restreamer. Check the player’s documented file-format support, looping behavior, transitions, audio handling, reconnect behavior, and unattended monitoring or recovery. Those details are player-specific; do not assume that adding a source in Restreamer will make local files play in sequence.
3. Install and secure Restreamer
The official Restreamer Quick Start describes running the service as a Docker container and mounting /core/config and /core/data so configuration and data persist. Its sample command maps host ports 8080 and 8181 to container ports 8080 and 8181, and also maps ports 1935 and 1936 plus UDP port 6000. Treat those as the documented sample, not a universal firewall recipe: check the current guide and expose only the ports your deployment needs. The guide also notes standard HTTP/HTTPS ports and that public port forwarding is needed for full functionality.

4. Add the playlist feed in Restreamer
In Restreamer, use the source wizard to enter the playlist player’s network source and select an available video profile. Configure audio deliberately. Restreamer’s source wizard documentation says some services, including YouTube, require an active audio channel; if the videos have no sound, it recommends a silent audio channel. Confirm that the selected source is actually producing video and audio as intended before publishing.
5. Connect Restreamer to YouTube
In Restreamer, open Publication Service, choose YouTube, enter the valid YouTube streaming ID or key, and save. The Restreamer YouTube publication guide says the bitrate appears in Restreamer’s main window after connection.

YouTube’s live encoder guide describes creating the stream in Live Control Room, copying the stream key into the encoder, starting the encoder to send a preview, and then selecting Go Live in YouTube. Follow the current Studio prompts if labels or screens differ from those instructions. Treat the stream key as a credential: enter it only in the intended publishing setup and do not share it publicly.
6. Run a private end-to-end test
Before relying on the system, test the complete path as a private stream, as Google’s guide recommends. Check that:
- The playlist advances between items and repeats when it reaches the end.
- Restreamer receives the expected video source and audio track.
- YouTube displays the incoming preview and the broadcast can be started from Live Control Room.
- The stream remains connected over an extended test, including while the playlist changes items.
- The host, player, storage, and network remain available for the period you intend to stream.
The cited product guidance does not provide a guaranteed uptime figure or a universal hardware specification. A successful test confirms your tested configuration under those conditions; it is not a promise that a self-hosted stream cannot be interrupted.

Plan hosting, recovery, and archiving
Choose who keeps the system running
You can self-host Restreamer on an always-on machine or use an always-available hosted environment. The cited documentation does not compare the cost or reliability of those approaches. Evaluate who restarts and maintains the host, the stability and upstream capacity of its network, access to source files and storage, monitoring and recovery arrangements, and the privacy and security exposure of the management interface.
Do not assume a 24/7 broadcast becomes a complete archive
Google’s live-production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and advises recording longer streams separately for manual upload. A 24/7 broadcast exceeds that guidance, so plan a separate recording and archive workflow if you need the full run preserved. This is the guidance in that document, not a guarantee of current archive behavior for every channel or broadcast.
For an event or stream you intend to end, the Restreamer YouTube guide advises: “Always end the stream on YouTube first after an event.” It warns that interrupting Restreamer while the YouTube broadcast is live may prevent YouTube from saving the live stream in its DVR archive. Use the current YouTube controls and your own recording plan rather than treating the DVR as your only copy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTroubleshoot common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Restreamer receives no video | Playlist player output or source address | Confirm the player is running, the source URL or connection details are correct, and the output uses a protocol Restreamer’s wizard supports. Check the player’s own logs and documentation. |
| Video arrives but YouTube does not accept the stream | Publication setup or YouTube stream key | In Restreamer’s Publication Service, verify that YouTube is selected and the current stream ID or key is entered correctly. Check Live Control Room for its current status and prompts. |
| YouTube reports an audio problem or the stream has no audio track | Source audio configuration | Check the audio output from the playlist player and the selected Restreamer profile. For silent video, use the silent audio channel option described in the Restreamer source-wizard documentation. |
| The playlist stops or does not move to the next recording | Playlist player | Check its sequencing and repeat settings, file access, supported formats, and reconnect behavior. Restreamer receiving a source does not, by itself, establish that the source player will advance through files. |
| Restreamer’s management page or incoming source is unreachable | Host, ports, or network path | Check that the container is running, required host-to-container port mappings are present, and any required public port forwarding is configured. Compare your deployment with the current Quick Start rather than opening every sample port by default. |
| The expected YouTube archive is missing or incomplete | Broadcast duration and shutdown order | Check YouTube’s current archive behavior and your separate recording. For an event, end the broadcast in YouTube before interrupting Restreamer; do not rely on the cited under-12-hour guidance for a continuous 24/7 run. |
