Before broadcasting, confirm you have permission to use every textbook page, video, image, recording, and other third-party item: public access to NCERT material does not itself grant rebroadcast rights.
Before you begin: confirm your channel and content rights
Check that YouTube Live is available
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you intend to launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
Get permission for the material you plan to broadcast
Do not treat downloadable or freely viewable NCERT resources as automatically licensed for a continuous YouTube broadcast. NCERT’s digital citizenship material says copyrighted work should not be used without the creator’s or owner’s permission. Its copyright notice warns that publishing NCERT textbook content for commercial sale without permission may lead to action under the Copyright Act 1957. Check permissions for your specific use, including the channel, territory, broadcast format, and any commercial use, before scheduling the stream. See NCERT’s copyright-infringement notice and its digital citizenship material.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects material, YouTube may replace the feed with a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even where you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s guidance on live-stream copyright.

Choose an encoder and prepare the connection
Use an encoder workflow
An encoder sends your video and audio feed to YouTube. You can use encoder software on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder; choose a setup that can run continuously and that you can monitor or recover if it stops. YouTube’s encoder overview explains the role of an encoder. The available guidance does not establish one universally suitable 24/7 hardware or software setup.
Measure upload capacity and plan headroom
Check the connection’s outbound upload capacity, not just its download speed. YouTube recommends keeping the stream bitrate within available upload bandwidth and allowing 20% headroom. Use a reliable network: a connection disruption can break a stream. For a practical wired option, a compatible Cat 6 Ethernet cable can connect an encoder computer to a router; check that both devices have suitable ports and that the cable reaches. YouTube does not require Ethernet or specify a cable type. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, open Create and choose Go live. Create a stream or select one you have already set up.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key shown by YouTube.
- Enter them in the encoder. Paste the server URL and key into the encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP destination settings, then save. YouTube describes the stream key as password-like: keep it private, and do not include it in a public screenshot or recording. See YouTube’s stream settings instructions.
- Configure the lesson feed. Select the intended video and audio inputs in the encoder. For a 24/7 lessons channel, verify that the feed advances or loops as intended and that the audio remains appropriate during transitions.
Preview and test before going public
- Start the encoder and wait for the stream to appear in Live Control Room.
- Check the preview for picture, sound, and transitions; confirm that no lesson has blank sections or unintended audio.
- Open the public watch page from a separate device or browser session and check that viewers can reach it with the intended visibility setting.
- Watch stream health while the test runs. If you use a backup encoder, test failover before relying on it.
- Set up the encoder in advance rather than waiting until the scheduled start. YouTube recommends testing the complete path and monitoring stream quality.
Choose viewer and start-stop behavior
In YouTube’s stream settings, review latency, DVR, and auto-start/auto-stop. DVR allows viewers to pause and resume while a live stream is in progress; decide whether that suits lessons that viewers may join at different times. Auto-start and auto-stop determine whether encoder activity controls the stream’s start and end. Choose settings that fit the schedule and operating method, then verify the result in a test. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
Keep the channel running around the clock
A 24/7 plan depends on an encoder and connection that stay available, and on someone or something being able to detect and respond to interruptions. YouTube advises monitoring stream quality and testing backup failover when a backup encoder is used; its help pages do not prescribe a universal 24/7 architecture or guarantee uptime. Decide who will notice a stopped feed, how they will reach the encoder, and what backup or restart procedure they can use.

Common problems and what to check
- Live streaming is unavailable: confirm channel verification and check whether the channel has had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If live streaming was just enabled, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: check that the encoder has the correct server URL and current stream key from the selected YouTube stream, and that it is pointed at the intended destination.
- The stream breaks or looks unstable: measure upload capacity, compare it with the stream bitrate, retain YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and check whether the connection is reliable. Monitor stream health and test any backup path.
- The feed is interrupted or replaced: check for third-party material, including textbook pages, images, and recordings. Confirm the relevant rights and whether a rights holder needs to allowlist the channel in Content ID.
- Viewers cannot pause or resume as expected: review the stream’s DVR setting. Also test auto-start and auto-stop if encoder activity is meant to control when the broadcast begins or ends.

NCERT’s 2021–22 annual report describes e-Pathshala as a portal and app with educational resources, including textbooks and audiovisual material. It also reports that 12 PM eVIDYA DTH channels aired daily fresh recorded programmes for 2–3 hours, repeated 11 times for Classes 1–10 and 7 times for Classes 11–12. Those figures describe the report’s 2021–22 DTH telecasts, not YouTube or current schedules, and do not grant an independent channel permission to rebroadcast NCERT content.
