You can run a continuous ASMR tapping broadcast from a spare PC by sending a scene with your tapping audio through OBS or another encoder to YouTube Live Control Room. First confirm your channel can livestream; then configure and test the video, audio, power, and internet before leaving the PC running. A spare PC can keep the encoder at home, but neither it nor YouTube guarantees uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
1. Confirm your channel can livestream
Before setting up OBS, open YouTube Studio and check that live streaming is available for your channel. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If access is unavailable, resolve the channel eligibility issue before planning a continuous broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance.
2. Create the YouTube broadcast and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or configure a stream using the encoder option. Follow the current on-screen setup; labels and available choices can change.
- Copy the stream key from YouTube and enter it in your encoder’s stream settings. Treat it like a password: do not show it on screen, publish it, or share it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Start the encoder and confirm that YouTube receives its signal. The broadcast is the viewer-facing event; the stream is the incoming audio/video feed. They are related but distinct parts of the workflow, as explained in Google’s YouTube Live documentation.
For a first test, use a private or unlisted broadcast if those options are available for your account. Check the picture, audio, and stream status before making the event public.
3. Build a simple OBS scene on the spare PC
Install and open OBS, then create a scene that contains the visual you intend viewers to see and the source of your tapping audio. The visual may be a stable image or a live camera view. Confirm that the selected audio device is the intended microphone and that its level moves in OBS when you tap.

Choose video settings by testing your actual setup
There is no single resolution, bitrate, or encoder profile established as suitable for every spare PC and internet connection. Check YouTube’s current encoder recommendations, choose settings your PC can sustain, and test them in a private or unlisted stream. Watch the incoming stream in Live Control Room for dropped frames, buffering, or a mismatch between the encoder and YouTube status. OBS’s Help Portal offers general guidance, but does not establish one universal 24/7 configuration.
Capture the tapping sound in the room where you will stream
Microphone choice and placement depend on the tapping tone you want and the room noise you are willing to capture. A USB microphone is one possible connection type, not a requirement or a guaranteed best choice. Check that any microphone is compatible with the PC, place it securely, and listen to a test recording or private stream from the viewer’s side. Adjust placement and levels to reduce unwanted handling, fan, and room noise without losing the sound you want.

When evaluating a microphone, check its connection compatibility, how it captures your chosen tapping and nearby noise, how securely it can be positioned, and whether connecting it blocks ports or airflow. The available guidance does not establish a particular microphone model or performance ranking.
4. Prepare the PC and connection for a long session
- Set the PC not to sleep during the planned stream. Confirm the setting applies while plugged in, and check it again after operating-system or power-setting changes.
- Use stable power and an internet connection. Avoid relying on a connection that regularly drops or on a power arrangement likely to be interrupted.
- Keep the PC’s ventilation unobstructed and check that it is not overheating during a longer test.
- Plan how you will monitor both OBS and Live Control Room. A working encoder does not by itself confirm that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
- Test for a meaningful period before announcing a continuous schedule, and decide how you will respond if the PC, encoder, network, or YouTube feed fails.
These precautions reduce avoidable interruptions; they cannot promise uninterrupted service from a spare PC or a home connection. Practical setup context is also discussed in iTechGuides’ OBS walkthrough, but it does not establish an uptime guarantee.

5. Use media you have the right to stream
Use your own tapping audio and visuals, or material for which you have the necessary rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match may replace the live picture with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the stream, or result in a strike. Even licensed material may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams. Original tapping and creator-owned visuals make this risk simpler to manage.
6. Set the audience accurately
Choose the audience setting that correctly describes your content; do not select made for kids or not made for kids just to obtain or avoid a feature. YouTube says that when a stream is designated made for kids, live chat and some other features are disabled or restricted, and personalized ads are disabled. Review YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-streaming restrictions and the available audience options in Studio.
