To run Gurbani on YouTube around the clock, first choose whether you will broadcast a live feed from a Gurdwara or loop authorized prerecorded programming. Then verify the channel’s live-stream eligibility, clear rights for the exact recordings and music, configure an encoder using YouTube’s current guidance, test the complete signal privately, and assign a person to monitor and restore it. Neither a YouTube live event nor a particular encoder is guaranteed to stay live indefinitely.
Choose between a live Gurdwara feed and prerecorded programming
The source determines what equipment, permissions, and ongoing attention you need. Decide who owns the feed and who can act if it fails before you configure the stream.
| Decision point | Live Gurdwara feed | Authorized prerecorded programming |
|---|---|---|
| Source | An authorized audio output from the Gurdwara sound system, plus a video source if the stream will include video. | Recordings and included musical works for which the channel has permission to stream. |
| Rights and permissions | Arrange venue permission and clear rights for the actual recording and any included music. | Clear rights for every recording and musical work in the playlist, not just the playlist as a whole. |
| Availability and staffing | Plan for the venue source and its equipment to be available, and identify who can monitor it. | Plan how the authorized files will reach the encoder and who will monitor and restore the stream. |
| Connection complexity | Connect the venue’s audio output and, where needed, camera or other video source to the encoder. | Supply the authorized media files to a compatible encoder or cloud service. |
These are planning considerations, not separate YouTube requirements. For a live feed, confirm the sound-system output and connection path before buying extra gear. Depending on what the Gurdwara already has, the setup may need an audio interface, preamp, microphone, camera, or cabling; it may need none of these if a suitable signal path already exists. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming but does not require a particular dedicated hardware encoder. Its encoder guidance describes use with external equipment such as preamps, microphones, and cameras: YouTube Help: Live streaming encoder settings.
Prepare the YouTube channel before the planned start
YouTube’s stated eligibility requirements include channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and an operator who is at least 16 years old. YouTube for Artists advises enabling live streams at least 24 hours before going live. Allow that lead time, and check the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility requirements before scheduling: platform rules can change.

Clear rights for the material you will broadcast
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder; unresolved third-party content can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. This applies to the actual recording and included music, so having permission for one element does not automatically clear the others.
If you have licensed third-party material, ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license by itself may not prevent a live-stream disruption. For copyright-protected music, YouTube for Artists also advises coordinating with the label or distributor: “If you’re planning on using copyright-protected music during your live stream, we recommend coordinating with your label or distributor to avoid any issues, such as copyright strikes.” See YouTube for Artists: Going live for music channels.

Before launch, make a rights inventory for every recording and musical work in the planned feed or playlist. Confirm permissions for the specific use on YouTube and resolve any required allowlisting with the rights holder before relying on that material for continuous programming.
Configure the encoder for YouTube
Use a software or hardware encoder that can send your chosen source to YouTube. YouTube’s setup flow and encoder requirements are documented in its encoder settings guide and live encoder setup instructions. Follow the current settings shown for your encoder and selected ingest protocol; do not assume settings for one protocol apply unchanged to another. YouTube recommends RTMPS in its settings material. HLS is also documented for compatible encoders and has its own format and segment requirements.

- Connect the source. For a venue broadcast, route the authorized audio output and intended video source into the encoder. For prerecorded programming, select the authorized files and configure playback or looping in the encoder.
- Create the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and select encoder streaming. Copy the stream details into the encoder using YouTube’s current setup instructions. Treat the stream key as private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a signal to the broadcast.
- Set the encoder and ingest protocol. Choose the protocol supported by your encoder and follow YouTube’s matching guidance for the stream format. Confirm the encoder is sending the intended audio and video source rather than a silent or unintended input.
- Check the outgoing signal. Confirm the encoder reports a connection and that YouTube Studio receives the stream. Use YouTube’s live control room preview to inspect picture and sound before making the stream public.
A dedicated hardware video streaming encoder is optional, not a YouTube prerequisite. A software encoder may be appropriate if a computer can remain available and someone is responsible for it. When considering hardware, check that its inputs match the existing audio/video signal path, that it supports the required ingest protocol, and that an operator can monitor it.
Test privately, then assign monitoring and recovery
Google’s livestreaming checklist recommends testing the entire setup as a private stream in YouTube Studio. Test the real source, encoder, network connection, and YouTube preview together—not just a local recording or a successful encoder connection. The checklist is available at YouTube’s livestreaming checklist.

- Start a private test broadcast and check that the intended venue feed or prerecorded media reaches the encoder.
- Confirm that the encoder reaches YouTube Studio and that the preview has the expected picture and audible sound.
- Check the public-facing playback path and confirm that the correct stream is available to the intended audience before launch.
- Name a person responsible for checking the stream, noticing an outage, and restarting or escalating it. Make sure they know where to find the encoder and stream controls.
For a 24/7 schedule, explicitly decide who checks the feed and what they will do if the source, encoder, connection, or YouTube stream stops. The sources do not prescribe a particular failover design or promise that one live event will run forever; continuity depends on your source, equipment or service, and recovery arrangements.
