How to Set Streamlabs Desktop to Start a Prerecorded Playlist on Windows Boot

Streamlabs’ documented Go Live flow requires confirmation. Check your installed version for playlist and unattended-start support, then test after a full Windows restart before relying on it.

Short answer: the available Streamlabs documentation does not verify a hands-free setup that launches Streamlabs Desktop at Windows startup, plays a prerecorded playlist, and begins broadcasting without confirmation. Streamlabs documents a Go Live flow that asks you to confirm the broadcast. You can use Windows Task Scheduler to launch an app on a trigger, but that alone does not make Streamlabs start a stream.

First check whether your installed Streamlabs version has a playlist-capable source and a documented unattended start option. Treat automatic broadcasting as unverified until you have tested it after a full Windows restart and confirmed the live stream on your platform.

What Streamlabs’ documented workflow does—and does not—confirm

Streamlabs’ setup guide describes configuring scenes and sources, choosing a platform through Go Live, entering stream details, and selecting “Confirm & Go Live.” That is a user-confirmed broadcast flow, not evidence that Streamlabs can begin streaming unattended when Windows boots. Streamlabs’ getting-started guide was published July 22, 2026.

Its Quick Start guide, published May 20, 2026, covers scenes, sources, platform connection and audio, and lists Windows 11 as a minimum operating system. It does not establish automatic launch on boot or automatic Go Live. The operating-system requirement should not be read as proof that unattended playlist streaming works.

Check your installed Streamlabs version before building an unattended setup

  1. Look for a playlist-capable source. In your installed Streamlabs Desktop build, check the source choices and its documentation for a source that supports a prerecorded playlist. The reviewed Streamlabs documentation does not verify a particular playlist source or its controls, so do not assume that a similarly named feature in another program is available here.
  2. Configure and preview the playlist if supported. Set the intended order, loop behavior, media file paths and audio in the app. Confirm in preview that each file plays, transitions as expected, and has audible, correctly routed sound. A playlist that works in preview is not proof that it will load after a reboot.
  3. Check for a Streamlabs-documented unattended start method. Look specifically for instructions for your version that cover starting the broadcast without the documented confirmation step. Do not copy an OBS Studio command-line flag into Streamlabs: the OBS launch parameter documented for automatic streaming is specific to OBS, and does not establish Streamlabs support.
  4. Keep app launch and broadcast start separate in your plan. Windows may be able to open Streamlabs at sign-in or on another scheduled trigger. Unless Streamlabs itself supports and completes the stream-start step, the app can open without playing the playlist or going live.

What Windows Task Scheduler can do

Microsoft documents Task Scheduler as a general way to run tasks when selected triggers occur, such as a system event or a specific time. That capability can schedule an application launch; it does not prove that Streamlabs will load a scene, find the media, connect to your account, wait for the network, or begin broadcasting. See Microsoft’s Task Scheduler for developers overview.

If you use Task Scheduler to open Streamlabs, treat it as an app-launch experiment rather than a verified streaming recipe. The source documentation does not establish a Streamlabs-specific trigger, command, or task configuration for unattended Go Live, so there is no supported click-by-click schedule to provide here.

Run a controlled restart test before relying on it

  1. Save your scene and playlist configuration, then restart Windows fully—not merely close and reopen Streamlabs.
  2. Observe whether Streamlabs starts under the Windows account and session conditions you intend to use.
  3. Check whether the intended scene loads, every playlist file resolves, playback proceeds, and audio is present.
  4. Check whether a broadcast actually begins. Open the streaming platform separately and verify its live status and incoming picture and sound; an open Streamlabs window is not confirmation that viewers can see a stream.
  5. Repeat the test after any Streamlabs update, scene change, media relocation, account reconnection, or Windows scheduling change that could affect the setup.

Do not rely on the arrangement for an unattended broadcast unless the exact Streamlabs build and configuration complete all of these steps after a real restart. The reviewed sources do not report a verified end-to-end restart test.

Why OBS instructions are not Streamlabs instructions

OBS Studio documents a VLC Video source that can use a playlist, with loop and shuffle options; it requires VLC, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Separately, OBS documents the --startstreaming launch parameter and explains adding parameters to a Windows shortcut; for scheduled-task or other automated launches, it recommends setting a working directory. These are OBS-specific capabilities, not verified Streamlabs features. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation (January 11, 2022) and Launch Parameters documentation (May 30, 2021).

Troubleshooting checks if the test fails

  • Streamlabs opens, but the stream does not start: app launch is not broadcast start. Check for a Streamlabs-documented unattended start feature for your exact build; do not assume OBS’s --startstreaming works in Streamlabs.
  • The playlist is missing or does not advance: confirm that the installed version supports the source you selected, that the saved media paths still point to accessible files, and that playback works in preview. Playlist support and exact controls are not established by the reviewed Streamlabs guides.
  • There is no sound: check the source’s audio routing and levels in preview before testing again. The Quick Start guide covers audio setup, but does not certify audio after an automated restart.
  • The scheduled app does not appear: inspect the task’s trigger, the Windows account and session context, and whether Windows ran the task. A scheduler trigger can start a task; it cannot guarantee a successful Streamlabs session.
  • The app appears live locally but the platform shows no broadcast: verify the platform connection and confirm live status on the platform itself. Streamlabs’ documented flow includes selecting a platform, entering stream details, and confirming Go Live.
