In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced and enable Automatically Reconnect. Set Retry Delay and Maximum Retries to suit your connection and destination. This setting is for reconnecting an output after a disconnection; OBS’s reviewed documentation does not promise that it will restart streaming after an encoder error has stopped the output.
Enable OBS automatic reconnect
- In OBS Studio, open Settings.
- Select Advanced.
- Find the reconnect controls and turn on Automatically Reconnect.
- Review Retry Delay and Maximum Retries. Choose values appropriate to how quickly your connection or streaming destination might recover; there is no universal value established by OBS’s documentation.
- Apply the settings and verify the live status at your streaming destination if a disconnection occurs.
OBS describes these controls as output reconnection settings. Its output reference says retry timing doubles with each retry to avoid overloading services, and a retry count of zero disables reconnecting. See the OBS output reference and its overview of OBS Studio settings.
Reconnect is not the same as restarting a failed encoder
A dropped connection and an encoder failure are different problems. Automatic reconnect addresses output disconnection. OBS reports an encoder failure separately with the message “An encoder error occurred while streaming.” The official material cited here does not document a one-click procedure that automatically restarts an output stopped by that error. Do not rely on the reconnect checkbox alone to recover a stopped encoder.
If the encoder error appears, note the exact message and save the OBS log so you can investigate the encoder failure separately. The OBS stream connection troubleshooting guide identifies dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as symptoms commonly associated with network problems between the computer and remote ingest server. A clear encoder error calls for encoder-focused troubleshooting rather than assuming the network reconnect control will resolve it.

Check whether the meditation stream is actually live
After OBS attempts to reconnect, check the destination’s own live status. A connected or active-looking OBS window is not, by itself, proof that viewers can see the stream. Individual community reports describe cases where recovery did not happen as expected, including a source that did not resume and a destination that appeared offline while OBS seemed active. These are anecdotes, not evidence that every setup behaves that way: camera/source recovery report and destination-status report.
For a meditation channel, do not assume reconnecting produces uninterrupted playback. Whether viewers experience a gap depends on what happens during the interruption and how the destination handles it; the cited OBS documentation does not establish continuity for a particular platform or channel setup.
