For a YouTube Live stream from OBS, start with H.264 video, CBR rate control, a 2-second keyframe interval and AAC stereo audio at 128 Kbps. YouTube recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p30 or 3 Mbps for 720p30. Those are encoder recommendations—not a guarantee that your JioFiber connection or computer can sustain a continuous broadcast. Test the actual setup before relying on it.
This guide assumes YouTube Live is the destination because the title does not name a platform. If you plan to stream elsewhere, check that platform’s current ingest requirements; do not assume the YouTube settings apply. OBS settings affect the signal you send, but they do not establish that a children’s program is safe, that you have the necessary content rights, or that a continuous broadcast meets platform rules.
Choose a profile your connection and computer can sustain
Use the resolution and frame rate you can deliver consistently, not the highest option in OBS. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends these H.264 video bitrates. The figures are YouTube recommendations, not measurements of JioFiber upload performance.
| YouTube target | Recommended video bitrate | Other baseline settings |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | H.264, CBR, 2-second keyframe interval, AAC stereo at 128 Kbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | H.264, CBR, 2-second keyframe interval, AAC stereo at 128 Kbps |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps | H.264, CBR, 2-second keyframe interval, AAC stereo at 128 Kbps |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps | H.264, CBR, 2-second keyframe interval, AAC stereo at 128 Kbps |
The 60 fps targets need more upload capacity and encoding headroom than the 30 fps options. For a mostly static program, 30 fps may be a more practical starting point; if the picture has fast movement or fine detail, test it and check the resulting stream before settling on a profile. YouTube’s encoder recommendations and Control Room guidance are at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Measure JioFiber upload before setting the bitrate
Do not use the plan’s advertised download speed—or an upload result from a different place or connection—as your OBS bitrate. Jio says its broadband plans have symmetric upload and download speeds. Its Mumbai plan page lists example tiers of 30, 100, 150 and 300 Mbps, but those are location- and plan-specific examples, not evidence of your package’s speed or the throughput available to your streaming computer. See Jio’s Mumbai broadband plans.
- Run an upload speed test from the computer and the same wired or Wi-Fi connection you intend to use for OBS.
- Repeat the check at the times the stream will run. A single test is a snapshot; it does not show whether upload remains stable through different hours or ordinary household use.
- Choose a YouTube profile whose bitrate leaves capacity for normal network activity. Do not set OBS to the full advertised speed or a momentary speed-test result.
- Run a test stream and watch YouTube’s stream health and messages. If the connection shows trouble, lower the video bitrate and reassess the resolution, frame rate and encoding load.
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance also recommends lowering video bitrate when investigating connection problems: OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting. If Wi-Fi is the unstable link and your computer and router have compatible ports, Ethernet is a reasonable option to test. It cannot fix instability elsewhere in the ISP connection.

Set the OBS stream output
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service and connect an account or enter the stream key provided by YouTube, according to the option shown in your OBS version. If you use a stream key, treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Set the video output. Open Settings > Output. If needed, change Output Mode to Advanced, then open the Streaming tab. Choose an H.264 encoder, set Rate Control to CBR, enter the bitrate you selected from the table, and set Keyframe Interval to 2 s. Encoder names can vary with your hardware and OBS build; use an available H.264 option.
- Set resolution and frame rate. Open Settings > Video and choose the output resolution and frame rate that match your target profile, such as 1280×720 at 30 fps or 1920×1080 at 30 fps. Confirm that OBS’s outgoing settings match the target you intend to test.
- Set audio. In the streaming output settings, use AAC audio, stereo channels and 128 Kbps. Check the audio meters and listen to a test recording or stream so that a silent or distorted feed is not discovered only after launch.
- Test the actual program. Start a private or otherwise appropriate YouTube test with representative picture movement and audio. Verify the incoming resolution and frame rate, sound and stream health in YouTube’s Live Control Room. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health and messages while live.
For a pre-recorded program that must repeat, make sure the OBS scene or source actually plays the intended material continuously; configuring encoder output alone does not create a looping program. If you use an OBS Media Source, its Loop option can repeat that source. Confirm the playback and transitions in a test before leaving the stream unattended.
What 24/7 operation adds to the setup
OBS sends the stream from the computer running it. For a DIY broadcast to continue, that computer, OBS, the media source and the network connection must keep working; turning the computer off ends its contribution to the stream. A profile that worked for a short test is not proof of uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Test over a representative period, check health messages, and decide who can respond if the stream or connection fails.

Also check your own JioFiber plan terms before using a continuous broadcast for monetized or other commercial purposes. Jio’s postpaid FAQ says its unlimited home-use plan data may be discontinued in cases of misuse, fraudulent, unauthorized or commercial use; this does not establish that every JioFiber plan permits commercial 24/7 streaming. Review the applicable terms or ask Jio about your plan: Jio’s postpaid data-use FAQ. Jio’s postpaid offer information is at JioFiber Postpaid Offer FAQ.
Check children’s content, rights and live-stream rules separately
Correct OBS values do not determine whether a children’s broadcast complies with YouTube’s current rules or is appropriate for its intended audience. Before launch, review the current live-stream and child-directed-content settings and requirements in YouTube Studio, and configure the stream accordingly. The encoder guidance cited above does not establish a special 24/7 children’s-stream profile or certify compliance.

- Use only video, music, artwork and other material you have the rights or permission to broadcast. A video being available online does not by itself grant permission to rebroadcast it.
- Review YouTube’s current copyright, monetization and reused-content rules for your specific program and channel rather than assuming that looping a recording is allowed.
- Consider what appears and can be heard throughout the full loop, including transitions, credits and any periods between files. A test helps catch playback or audio problems; it is not a substitute for policy review or supervision appropriate to the content.
Troubleshoot the most likely failures
| Symptom | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube reports dropped frames or an unstable connection | Whether the actual upload is stable at the stream’s operating time and whether OBS bitrate leaves network headroom | Lower the video bitrate, then test again. If Wi-Fi is unstable, try a compatible wired connection. |
| The stream starts but video is not smooth | Whether the computer can encode the selected resolution and frame rate while the program is running | Try a lower frame rate or resolution and repeat the test. Choose the profile the machine sustains rather than a higher target that falters. |
| Audio is missing or wrong | OBS audio meters, the selected audio source and the outgoing AAC stereo setting | Correct the source or output setting and confirm with a test listen before going live. |
| The broadcast stops when the computer is unattended or powered down | Whether the PC, OBS and network remain on and whether a person can respond to a failure | Keep the DIY system running and monitored, or use a cloud option for supported pre-recorded video workflows. |
| The stream key no longer works or an unfamiliar broadcast appears | Whether the key was changed, copied incorrectly or exposed | Replace the key in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new one. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the program is made from uploaded recordings rather than a live camera, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. It does not go live from a camera, and it does not stream to other platforms.
The first day is free with no card (one free day per account). Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. For readers in India, UPI works as well as cards. Check the content rights and YouTube rules for your program whichever method you use. To try the cloud workflow, start with StreamNeo.
