For a 1080p YouTube Live stream encoded with H.264, set OBS to 10,000 kbps at 30 fps or 12,000 kbps at 60 fps. YouTube’s live-encoder guidance also calls for CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that your particular internet connection or computer can sustain the stream.
Choose the bitrate for your frame rate
| OBS output | YouTube H.264 live recommendation | YouTube-listed minimum | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps (10,000 kbps) | 5 Mbps | Lower system and bandwidth demand than 60 fps; suitable when the source does not need the extra motion smoothness. |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps (12,000 kbps) | 6 Mbps | Smoother motion, but OBS notes that 60 fps can place more demand on the computer; YouTube’s recommended bitrate is higher. |
The figures are YouTube-published live-ingestion recommendations for H.264, on a YouTube Help page accessed in 2026. The minimum is not the recommended target. Choose 30 or 60 fps based on the material and what your system and connection can sustain.
These are live-stream settings, not upload-video encoding settings. YouTube’s separate upload recommendations use a different table and should not be substituted for the live values.
Set up the OBS video and output settings
- Set the output format. In OBS, open Settings → Video. Choose the intended output resolution—1080p—and set Common FPS Value to 30 or 60, matching the bitrate you chose. OBS describes Output (Scaled) Resolution as the resolution sent to the stream.
- Choose the streaming bitrate. Open Settings → Output. If you use Advanced Output Mode, configure the streaming encoder there; set the video bitrate to 10,000 kbps for 1080p30 or 12,000 kbps for 1080p60.
- Set rate control to CBR. YouTube specifies constant bitrate (CBR) for its live encoder recommendations. OBS labels and available encoder controls may depend on the selected encoder and version.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. If you change frame rate, check that keyframes still arrive every two seconds.
- Use a supported encoder and protocol. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its listed live encoder options include H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, with AAC or MP3 audio. The 10/12 Mbps figures here apply specifically to H.264; they do not establish identical targets for other codecs.
For the current platform values, see YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions. OBS’s labels and available controls can vary by version and encoder.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check whether your connection and computer can hold the target
A bitrate setting is only useful if the connection can send it steadily. YouTube advises: “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” An advertised internet-plan speed does not establish that your upload will remain stable during a stream. No India-specific bitrate multiplier, ISP ranking or guaranteed speed margin is established here; check the connection you will actually use.
- Run an upload speed test on the same connection and in the same location you plan to stream from.
- Test OBS before the real broadcast. Include motion and audio similar to the loop rather than relying only on a static preview.
- Review YouTube’s stream health while testing. A successful start alone does not show that the connection remains stable over time.
- If the stream drops frames or becomes unstable, try a lower bitrate. If that is not enough, reduce from 60 fps to 30 fps or lower the resolution, then test again.
OBS recommends testing before a first stream; 60 fps can be more demanding on the system than 30 fps. A connection-speed test cannot account for every fluctuation during a long broadcast, so judge the actual test stream as well.

Does a pre-recorded loop need a different bitrate?
No special bitrate for a loop is established by the cited platform guidance. The published H.264 recommendation is keyed to ingestion resolution and frame rate, not whether the video repeats. A mostly static loop might look acceptable at a lower bitrate, but that is a content-dependent judgment—not a YouTube-published alternative target. Test the real material and inspect the result before relying on a lower setting.
Bitrate settings also do not establish that a stream will run indefinitely without interruption. For a 24/7 stream, test the full workflow and monitor stream health rather than treating the loop itself as an interruption guarantee.

Fix common bitrate and stream problems
- YouTube reports an unstable or insufficient bitrate: Confirm OBS is streaming at the intended resolution and frame rate, then lower the bitrate and test again. If needed, lower the frame rate or resolution as well.
- The stream looks poor despite using the recommended value: Check that OBS is actually outputting 1080p at the intended frame rate and that the selected encoder is H.264 if you are applying the 10/12 Mbps figures. Test representative motion; the recommendation is not a quality guarantee for every source.
- Keyframe-related warning: Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds, and confirm it remains there after changing frame rate.
- 60 fps overloads the computer: OBS notes the higher system demand at 60 fps. Test the encoder load and consider 30 fps if the system cannot sustain the chosen output.
- Settings look right but frames still drop: Test the real connection and check YouTube stream health. A selected bitrate does not make an unstable upload stable; lower the bitrate or reduce output demands and retest.
