For a stereo YouTube Live stream, set OBS streaming audio to 128 Kbps, use AAC, and set the audio sample rate to 44.1 kHz. YouTube’s live-encoder guidance gives those stereo settings; it does not prescribe a different bitrate for Indian classical music or a 24/7 schedule.
Set the audio bitrate, codec, and sample rate
- Set the streaming bitrate: In OBS, open Settings → Output and find the streaming audio bitrate control. Set it to 128 Kbps for stereo output to YouTube Live. OBS labels and available options can vary by version and output mode.
- Choose AAC: Confirm that the streaming output uses AAC audio. OBS describes AAC as its default, widely supported audio format. YouTube also lists MP3 as supported for RTMP/RTMPS ingest, but AAC is the straightforward compatibility choice here. OBS supported broadcasting encoders
- Set the sample rate: In OBS audio settings, select 44.1 kHz for stereo. YouTube’s advanced live-encoder guidance recommends that sample rate for stereo audio. YouTube: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
- Verify stereo: Check that the audio being sent is actually stereo. The 128 Kbps recommendation is specifically for stereo; do not apply it as though it were a separately established recommendation for another channel layout.
Why 128 Kbps is the recommendation
YouTube’s published live-encoder settings specify 128 Kbps for stereo audio and 44.1 kHz for stereo sample rate. That is the basis for the OBS settings above—not a genre-specific listening test. The reviewed official guidance does not call for a higher bitrate for Indian classical music, nor does a 24/7 schedule itself change the stated stereo target.
Raising the bitrate above YouTube’s published stereo recommendation is not automatically an audio-quality improvement. A continuous broadcast does make it important to choose settings the upload connection can sustain, test with representative audio before going live, and watch YouTube’s stream-health status and messages while the stream is running. Check the ingest connection and stream health
YouTube accepts AAC or MP3 audio over RTMP/RTMPS and recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data into and through Google’s servers. YouTube also transcodes live streams into multiple formats for viewers. These delivery details do not change the OBS stereo bitrate recommendation. YouTube live encoder settings

Before relying on a stream for a long broadcast, test with the same kind of music and movement you expect to stream. Choose a quality your internet connection can reliably sustain, then monitor YouTube’s stream health and any messages during the event. The YouTube Live Streaming API documentation describes audio codec and stream-health checks; individual warnings depend on the account and ingest configuration. Troubleshoot common audio-setting issues
- YouTube reports an audio bitrate mismatch: Recheck the streaming audio bitrate in Settings → Output, verify stereo output, and confirm the value is 128 Kbps.
- The stream has no audio or the codec is unexpected: Confirm the active streaming output is using AAC and that OBS is sending the intended audio source. YouTube lists AAC and MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest.
- Sample-rate warnings or inconsistent audio: Set OBS audio to 44.1 kHz for stereo and make sure the audio chain is configured consistently. The YouTube API’s checks can flag configuration problems, but not every warning applies to every stream setup.
- The stream becomes unstable during a long run: Reduce the overall stream quality if the upload connection cannot sustain it, test representative content, and monitor YouTube stream health. The official guidance does not prescribe a different audio bitrate simply because the broadcast is continuous.
