For a 4K/2160p60 YouTube Live loop, use CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval (120 frames at 60 fps), and RTMPS. YouTube’s English-US live-encoder guidance recommends 50 Mbps for H.264 or 35 Mbps for HEVC/H.265 and AV1 at this resolution and frame rate. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees of a stable stream: check your GPU and FFmpeg build, measure sustained upload at the actual streaming location in India, and test the entire loop before relying on it.
Choose a codec and bitrate for 2160p60
Use YouTube’s live-encoder settings for a live broadcast—not its video-upload settings, which describe file uploads and give different high-frame-rate bitrates. The recommendations below are from YouTube’s English-US live settings page, accessed in 2026.
| Encoder | YouTube’s recommended bitrate at 2160p60 | Minimum listed by YouTube | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
H.264, FFmpeg encoder commonly named h264_nvenc |
50 Mbps | 14 Mbps | Choose for broad compatibility when the installed NVIDIA GPU and FFmpeg build support NVENC H.264. |
HEVC/H.265, commonly hevc_nvenc |
35 Mbps | 10 Mbps | Choose only if the GPU, FFmpeg build, and YouTube ingest path support HEVC. |
AV1, commonly av1_nvenc when available |
35 Mbps | 10 Mbps | Choose only if the exact GPU and FFmpeg build expose NVENC AV1 and the ingest path accepts it. |
The minimum is not a sensible target for a demanding 4K60 programme; use the recommended figure as your starting point. The lower bitrate recommendation for HEVC and AV1 does not make either codec automatically better for your setup. Confirm codec support before building the command, then validate picture quality, encoder load, upload stability, and YouTube stream health with representative content.
Check what your local FFmpeg can encode
Run ffmpeg -hide_banner -encoders and look for the encoder you intend to use, such as h264_nvenc. Then check that encoder’s local options with ffmpeg -hide_banner -h encoder=h264_nvenc, substituting the chosen encoder name. FFmpeg options and NVENC capabilities depend on the installed build and GPU; a flag documented for another version may be unavailable or behave differently on yours.

- Rate control: use constant bitrate:
-rc cbr. This matches YouTube’s live guidance and NVIDIA’s documented NVENC streaming approach. - Video bitrate: set
-b:v 50Mfor H.264, or-b:v 35Mfor HEVC/AV1 at 2160p60. If you add a maximum rate or VBV buffer, make sure the values are consistent with CBR and the behavior of your installed encoder; check its local help rather than copying an arbitrary buffer value. - Keyframes/GOP: YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and allows a maximum of 4 seconds. At 60 fps, that is 120 frames; use
-g 120for the recommended interval. Do not exceed-g 240at 60 fps. - Preset and tuning: NVIDIA’s high-quality live guidance uses a quality-oriented preset, such as
p6orp7where available, and quality-oriented tuning. A slower preset consumes more resources. Verify the chosen setting sustains real-time encoding on your system rather than assuming every GPU can handle it. - B-frames: YouTube’s advanced encoder guidance recommends 2. You can try
-bf 2if your encoder and ingest path handle it correctly. B-frames can improve compression but introduce reordering latency; omit or adjust them if testing reveals a compatibility or latency problem. - Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and recommends 128 kbps stereo. For AAC, the usual FFmpeg options are
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ac 2. Re-encode when the source audio is not suitable for the selected output; copy audio only after confirming its codec and channel layout are accepted. - Colour: for SDR, YouTube recommends Rec. 709 and 8-bit. Do not add HDR flags to ordinary SDR content. HDR is a separate workflow with additional YouTube ingest requirements; use it only when the source and stream setup are genuinely HDR.
- Transport: use RTMPS where supported. In YouTube Studio, obtain the current stream key and ingest details for the broadcast, and keep the key private.
Build and test the loop on your machine
The following is a command template, not a verified universal command. It uses H.264 NVENC and assumes the input is a video file with audio, your FFmpeg build supports the shown flags, and your YouTube RTMPS server address and stream key are available. Replace each placeholder; do not paste the angle-bracketed text literally. Confirm the loop behavior and output against the help for your installed FFmpeg before leaving it unattended.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check the media first. Use
ffprobe -hide_banner -i <input-file>to inspect resolution, frame rate, video and audio codecs, and duration. Confirm the file has the video and audio tracks you expect. If it is not 3840Ă—2160 at 60 fps, these output settings may require scaling or frame-rate conversion; do not assume the source itself is 4K60. - Measure the uplink where the stream will run. Test sustained upload on the actual wired connection, with other household or office traffic accounted for. The advertised download rate of a broadband plan does not establish upload capacity. YouTube recommends a speed test and a representative test stream.
- Run a private or unlisted test with the chosen codec and bitrate. Set the output to match the real broadcast’s resolution, frame rate, motion, and audio. Watch YouTube Live’s stream-health messages and check the local FFmpeg output for dropped frames, encoder errors, and reconnects.
- For an H.264 test, adapt this template. Replace
<input-file>with the path to the video, and replace<RTMPS-ingest-and-key>with the RTMPS destination and stream key shown for your YouTube broadcast:ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i <input-file> -c:v h264_nvenc -preset p6 -tune hq -rc cbr -b:v 50M -g 120 -bf 2 -r 60 -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ac 2 -f flv "<RTMPS-ingest-and-key>"
Confirm-stream_loop -1is supported by your installed FFmpeg and behaves as expected for this input. If the file has no audio, remove the audio output options; if its audio layout or codec is unsuitable, configure and test an appropriate conversion. If your build does not accept a preset or tuning value, use its encoder help to select a supported alternative instead of silently dropping the error. - Inspect at least one complete loop boundary. Check for a visible jump, black frame, audio click or gap, and timestamp or reconnect issue where playback returns to the beginning. A continuous FFmpeg process does not make a poorly joined source seamless.
- Promote the test only after it is stable. Confirm YouTube reports a healthy stream at the target resolution and frame rate, the video and audio remain in sync, and upload and GPU resources have enough margin for normal variation. Stop the test and correct the relevant cause before scheduling a long-running broadcast.
Switching to HEVC or AV1
If your installed GPU and FFmpeg build support the codec and YouTube accepts it on the selected ingest path, substitute the matching encoder name and use -b:v 35M for the 2160p60 recommendation. Check that encoder’s help for preset, tuning, B-frame, and rate-control syntax; do not assume H.264 options transfer unchanged to every codec or build.
India-specific reliability checks
No India-wide ISP upload figure establishes whether a particular connection can sustain this stream. Conditions depend on the location and connection actually used. Measure sustained upload at the streaming site, preferably on a wired connection, while accounting for concurrent traffic. A plan’s advertised download speed is not evidence that its upload path can carry a 35 or 50 Mbps live encode reliably. Keep headroom beyond the video target for audio and network variation, and use YouTube’s test stream and health indicators to assess the real route.

Copyright, stream keys, and long-running broadcasts
- Use material you have permission to broadcast. A file looping continuously is still a public live broadcast. Check rights for the documentary footage, music, narration, archival clips, and any other material, and review YouTube’s copyright and monetization rules. Reused or repetitive material can raise policy concerns; technical configuration does not establish that a channel or video qualifies for monetization.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, put it in screenshots, or share a command containing it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before the next broadcast.
- Plan for the process and machine to remain available. In a DIY setup, FFmpeg must keep running and the host, encoder, power, and network must remain available. A local process that exits, a system sleep event, or an uplink failure can interrupt the broadcast. Test recovery behavior instead of assuming a loop handles every failure.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
FFmpeg reports that h264_nvenc, HEVC, or AV1 is unavailable. |
The installed FFmpeg build or GPU does not expose that encoder. | Check ffmpeg -encoders and the encoder-specific help. Choose an encoder supported by both your build and hardware; do not infer support from a GPU brand alone. |
| Encoder initialization fails or the encode falls behind. | An unsupported option, resource limit, or preset too demanding for real-time 4K60. | Read the exact error, verify flags against local encoder help, and test a less demanding supported preset. Monitor whether the system sustains 60 fps with the representative source. |
| YouTube reports unstable bitrate or the stream drops frames. | The actual upload path is insufficient or variable, or other traffic is consuming capacity. | Measure sustained upload at the stream location, reduce competing traffic, and run a fresh private test. If needed, select a lower resolution or frame rate rather than treating YouTube’s minimum bitrate as a guarantee. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream. | Incorrect or expired stream key, wrong ingest destination, unsupported protocol, or a codec not accepted on that ingest path. | Copy the current RTMPS details from the intended YouTube broadcast, check the key privately, and confirm the chosen codec is supported for that path. |
| The loop has a click, jump, gap, or reconnect at the boundary. | The file’s ending does not join cleanly to its beginning, or the loop’s timestamp behavior is unsuitable. | Inspect and edit the source transition, then test a full loop locally and in a private stream. The exact boundary behavior should be verified with your FFmpeg build and file. |
| Picture is soft, stutters, or does not appear as 2160p60. | Source media is below target quality, scaling or frame-rate conversion is occurring, the encoder is overloaded, or YouTube has not finished processing the incoming stream. | Inspect the source with ffprobe, compare it with the configured output, and check encoder load and YouTube stream health during a sustained test. |
| Audio is missing, distorted, or out of sync. | The source has no audio or an unexpected track layout, or the chosen copy/encode path is unsuitable. | Inspect the audio stream with ffprobe; remove audio options for a silent source, or explicitly encode a compatible stereo track and retest synchronization. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is an always-on YouTube loop rather than learning to maintain an FFmpeg host, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded video rather than broadcasting from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.
