Keep the key private, test the feed in YouTube’s preview, and plan for monitoring and recovery: a looping file alone does not make a stream reliable for 24/7 operation.
Before you start
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-streaming access can take up to 24 hours to enable. See YouTube live streaming tips.
- Install an FFmpeg build that supports the required input, video and audio encoders, and RTMP output. Check the build’s help or documentation; option and codec availability can vary.
- Have a finished video file with the intended Malayalam narration, captions, ticker and graphics. Confirm the host can access the file and has a stable upload connection.
Get the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then open the Stream tab.
- Create a stream or select an existing one. You can create a custom stream key for reusable settings.
- Copy the displayed Stream URL and Stream key. YouTube describes keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address”: they tell the encoder where to send the feed and let YouTube accept it. See Manage live stream settings.
- Treat the key as a password. Do not publish it in an article, repository, screenshot or shared log. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the old value in FFmpeg.
Use the exact server URL shown for your stream. The RTMPS address in the example below is a common pattern, not a substitute for the URL displayed in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest; follow the URL and protocol YouTube presents for your setup.
Configure FFmpeg to loop and send a prerecorded file
This is a starting template, not a tested command or a guarantee for every FFmpeg build or media file. Replace input.mp4 and STREAM_KEY, and adapt the output destination to the exact YouTube server URL. In many RTMP setups, the key is appended to the server URL as shown.

Keep these input options before-i.-c:v libx264selects H.264 encoding if the build includes that encoder;-preset veryfasttrades encoding efficiency for less processing work.-b:v,-maxrateand-bufsizeset video rate-control values. The example’s 5 Mbps is a minimum, not YouTube’s recommended bitrate for 1080p30 H.264.-g 60and-keyint_min 60set a 60-frame GOP. At 30 fps, 60 frames is two seconds. Choose a GOP based on the actual frame rate; YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.-sc_threshold 0disables scene-cut keyframe insertion in this x264 configuration, helping keep the interval regular.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100selects AAC audio at the stated bitrate and sample rate, provided the source has audio and the FFmpeg build supports AAC encoding.-f flvselects the RTMP-compatible FLV output format used by this pattern.
Confirm the input actually contains the audio and video you expect, and that your chosen codecs and container work together. If the file is already compatible, do not assume stream-copying is better: test the actual output before replacing encoding options with copy mode.

Choose settings for the source and connection
Use the resolution, frame rate and codec that fit the source, then choose a sustainable bitrate. YouTube’s current settings table lists these H.264 figures for 1080p30: 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. These are YouTube’s published values, checked on 2026-10-03; they are not a universal bitrate recommendation for other resolutions, frame rates or codecs. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions for the applicable combination.
YouTube recommends constant-bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, no longer than four seconds. Leave upload capacity above the stream’s total bitrate: YouTube recommends 20% headroom. A connection that barely matches the configured bitrate may be vulnerable to fluctuations. See YouTube streaming tips.

Start the stream and verify it
- Run FFmpeg with the correct source path, ingest URL and private key.
- Open the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and wait for the incoming video to appear in the preview.
- Check that the picture is stable and the audio is present, synchronized and clear. Test and monitor quality rather than assuming a successful FFmpeg connection means the public stream is healthy.
- Start or manage the broadcast from Live Control Room according to the stream setup, and continue monitoring the encoder and YouTube’s stream health.

- Check that Malayalam text and fonts render correctly in the encoded video, including headlines, names and ticker text.
- Make subtitles and on-screen text readable on a phone-sized screen.
- Listen for clear, synchronized Malayalam narration and check that ticker or time graphics update as intended.
- Confirm you have the rights to the footage, music, images and other material in the loop. A live format does not remove copyright obligations. YouTube’s monetization policies also distinguish original or meaningfully transformed work from reused content; do not assume that replaying material continuously guarantees eligibility for monetization.
Keep a 24/7 stream running reliably
-stream_loop -1 repeats input; it does not supervise FFmpeg, restore a failed network connection or guarantee that YouTube will reconnect. For unattended operation, plan to monitor both the FFmpeg process and YouTube stream health, and arrange a process supervisor or equivalent restart procedure.
FFmpeg documents RTMP output recovery options through its FIFO muxer, but recovery configuration is not a promise of seamless reconnection to YouTube. Test the exact FFmpeg build, host, network and stream under realistic interruptions before relying on it. See FFmpeg protocol documentation and FFmpeg documentation.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24/7 broadcast is longer than that stated window, so do not assume YouTube will archive it as one complete video. If you need a full copy, arrange separate recording and storage, and check YouTube’s current handling of long broadcasts.

- YouTube shows no incoming feed: Verify the stream URL and key against Live Control Room, confirm the key has not been reset, and check FFmpeg’s output for connection errors. Use the server URL YouTube actually displays rather than assuming a fixed endpoint.
- The key was reset or exposed: Copy the replacement key from Live Control Room, update the FFmpeg destination, and restart with the new value. Keep it out of logs and shared screenshots.
- The stream connects but the preview is blank or incomplete: Confirm the input file contains the expected streams and that the selected encoders and output format are supported by the build. Check the preview before relying on the stream.
- Playback stutters or drops: Compare the configured total bitrate with stable upload capacity, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom, and inspect both network and encoder load. Reduce output demands if the host or connection cannot sustain them.
- The loop does not repeat or FFmpeg stops: Confirm
-stream_loop -1is before-i, inspect the file and FFmpeg build, and add a tested process restart plan. Looping and process supervision solve different problems. - Audio is missing or wrong: Check that the file contains an audio stream and that the selected audio encoder and sample rate are supported; verify the result in YouTube’s preview.
- The 24-hour broadcast is not available as one archive: The stated automatic archive window is for streams under 12 hours. Keep a separate recording if a complete local archive is required.
