To send a Winamp playlist to YouTube Live, play it in Winamp, capture its audio in OBS, then send OBS’s stream to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. On supported Windows versions, OBS can capture Winamp alone; otherwise, capture the audio output device Winamp uses. Check the Live Control Room preview and listen for clean audio before going live.
Before you start: confirm YouTube Live access
Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available, so check access before you plan a broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
Prepare the playlist in Winamp
- Load or create a playlist. Winamp’s playlist tools can organize tracks, internet radio stations, and other media resources; the playlist preserves the order you choose. Use the Playlist Editor or Media Library controls available in your build. See Winamp Help.
- Start playback and check the output. Confirm that you can hear Winamp through the Windows audio device you intend to capture. Winamp’s help documents DirectSound Output as its recommended normal playback output in the versions covered there; controls can differ across builds.
This setup sends the sound Winamp is playing to YouTube. It does not configure a SHOUTcast broadcast server.
Choose how OBS captures Winamp audio
Use application capture when available to isolate Winamp. If OBS cannot capture Winamp’s audio path, capture the Windows output device it uses instead.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Method | What it captures | Compatibility | Echo risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Application Audio Capture | Winamp’s audio, isolated from other applications | OBS documents this feature as available starting with OBS Studio 28 on Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11. Some applications or audio paths may be incompatible. | Can echo if the same audio is also captured through Desktop Audio. |
| Audio Output Capture | The selected output device, including audio routed through that device | Use as a fallback if application capture is unavailable or incompatible. | Can echo if the same device is also selected globally in OBS Settings → Audio. |
These support details and cautions are documented in the OBS Project’s Application Audio Capture Guide and audio sources guide.
Add Application Audio Capture
- In OBS, choose or create the scene for the broadcast.
- In the Sources box, select + → Application Audio Capture.
- Name the source if prompted, then select Winamp in the application list.
- Play audio in Winamp and check that the source’s meter responds in OBS.
- If you use application capture, disable global Desktop Audio in OBS’s audio settings to avoid capturing the same playback twice.
Use output-device capture if needed
- In the scene’s Sources box, select + → Audio Output Capture.
- Select the Windows output device that Winamp uses.
- Play a track and confirm that the OBS meter responds.
- If this device is captured in the scene, avoid also selecting it as a global audio device in OBS Settings → Audio.
Build a scene and connect OBS to YouTube
- Add a visual if appropriate. A scene can include an image, text, media, or a captured window or display. Add a still image or title if you do not want viewers to see an empty scene; a visualizer is not required for audio capture.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream you intend to use. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how to obtain the server URL and stream key.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open OBS stream settings, choose YouTube as the service if it is listed, and enter the URL and key provided by YouTube. Follow YouTube’s current encoder instructions if the available OBS service options differ.
- Protect the stream key. YouTube describes stream keys as password-like credentials. Do not share or publish yours. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and update OBS. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
Preview, go live, and end the broadcast
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the feed to appear in the YouTube Live Control Room preview.
- Check that the picture is as intended and that the audio is audible and not doubled. If the stream is scheduled, review it in the preview before selecting Go live.
- Monitor audio and video quality during the broadcast. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder ahead of time, starting it before the event, and monitoring the stream.
- When finished, stop the encoder in OBS and end the stream in the Live Control Room as appropriate. YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; check the current YouTube guidance if archiving matters to your workflow.
For current platform instructions, see YouTube’s encoder help and live-streaming tips.

Check music rights before broadcasting
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted music. A match may cause a placeholder to replace the stream; if the material continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. A public, unlisted, or private setting does not grant music rights. YouTube also says that even when you have a licence, the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the stream to proceed without interruption. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and confirm that your permissions cover livestreaming on YouTube.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The OBS audio meter is silent: Confirm Winamp is playing and producing sound. Check which output device Winamp uses, then select Winamp in Application Audio Capture or select that device in Audio Output Capture.
- The music echoes or sounds doubled: Use one capture route. Do not capture Winamp through both Application Audio Capture and Desktop Audio, and do not capture an output device in the scene while also capturing it globally in OBS.
- Application capture does not work: Some application audio paths are incompatible. Try Audio Output Capture for the device receiving Winamp’s sound.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Confirm that OBS is using the server URL and stream key for the intended stream in YouTube Studio. If the key was exposed or may be out of date, reset it in the Live Control Room and update OBS.
- The live stream is interrupted after music starts: Check YouTube’s copyright notices and ensure you have the necessary livestream rights. If you have a licence, ask the rights owner whether channel allowlisting through Content ID is required.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a pre-recorded playlist to keep running on YouTube without leaving a computer at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live Winamp session or camera feed.
