Larix Broadcaster for Android is documented for live capture and RTMP streaming, not for selecting a prerecorded video file as a direct source. To send a video already on your phone, the documented Larix workaround is to play it on screen and stream that screen with the separate Larix Screencaster app. Audio capture depends on Android and the player app, so check YouTube’s preview before you make the broadcast public.
Choose the right Larix app for a prerecorded video
Softvelum’s Android documentation lists Larix Broadcaster as a live-capture and streaming app, including RTMP publishing, but does not document choosing a local video file as its input. That is a limit of the documented feature set, not proof that no version or setup could ever support another workflow. Do not assume Broadcaster has a built-in file player or playlist. Broadcaster’s documented minimum is Android 7.0+, with H.264/AVC video encoding, AAC audio encoding, and RTMP publishing. These are app specifications, not a guarantee that every handset, OS build, or player will behave identically. Softvelum’s Android documentation

Prepare YouTube Live before opening Larix
- Confirm live access. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live. If you are enabling live streaming for the first time, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. YouTube Help: stream with an encoder
- Create or select the stream. In Live Control Room, create a stream or choose the scheduled stream you intend to use. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. Keep it private and reset or rotate it if it is exposed.
Set up the screen-capture broadcast
- Install and open Larix Screencaster. It is a separate app from Larix Broadcaster. Check the current app listing and device compatibility; availability and features can change. The Google Play listing checked on Aug. 11, 2026, identified YouTube Live as a supported destination and described Larix as an SRT/RTMP/NDI/WebRTC WHIP encoder. - Enter YouTube’s connection details. In Larix’s connection setup, enter the server/application URL and stream name/key. Larix’s setup reference gives
rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2as a YouTube example and describes putting the combined values in the Connection URL field. Prefer the current server URL and key shown in YouTube Studio if they differ from that example. Larix connection setup reference - Prepare playback. Open the video in the player you intend to use, set it full-screen, and confirm the orientation. Disable notifications or interruptions where practical, and ensure the video can play through the section you want to broadcast.
- Check audio capture capability. Softvelum says Android 9 and earlier do not allow apps to capture audio from other apps. On Android 10+, media audio capture is available only for playback apps that support external recording. A picture on the screen does not guarantee that the video’s sound will be sent. - Start screen capture and inspect YouTube’s incoming preview. Grant the Android screen-capture permission when prompted, start the Screencaster output, and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check picture, sound, orientation, and uninterrupted playback before selecting Go live for a scheduled stream. Copyright and broadcast rights still apply
Screen-capturing a video does not give you permission to broadcast it. Use material you own or have permission to stream, and check the terms for any licensed footage, music, or other included content. YouTube’s live-stream rules and copyright enforcement apply to a prerecorded video sent as a live broadcast just as they do to other streams. Review the rights for every part of the file before going live; an incoming preview confirms signal, not permission.
