For a limited workaround, combine the clips into one MP4, host it, and use Wowza Video’s Stream from File source. Check Wowza’s current feature status before relying on that limitation, since the support answer is dated.
Choose the workflow that fits your video
| Option | Playlist behavior | Best fit | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wowza Video Stream from File | One hosted source file; an advanced property can repeat that file. | One combined MP4 or one file to loop. | Wowza downloads the file after the stream starts, so playback may be delayed. A loop keeps the transcoder running and accruing charges until you stop it. Wowza file-streaming guide. |
| Combine clips into one MP4, then use Wowza Video | A playlist-like sequence represented by a single file; described as a limited workaround in a July 10, 2025 support answer. | A sequence that can reasonably be prepared as one file. | Wowza support cautioned that the combined file’s size and length could make this impractical. The cited answer does not establish current feature status or a maximum file size or duration. Wowza Community answer. |
| Wowza Streaming Engine with StreamPublisher | Named by Wowza support as an alternative for playlist scheduling. | A true multi-file schedule. | This is a different Wowza product and setup. The cited answer does not provide current setup steps or plan and cost details. Wowza Community answer. |
Wowza says the former Streaming Cloud product is now called Wowza Video; existing customers retain product functionality in the UI and API. See Wowza’s product-name explanation.
Send one prerecorded file from Wowza Video to YouTube
The documented file workflow uses a source file hosted at a location Wowza can access. Wowza lists HTTP, HTTPS, GS, and S3 source protocols. The file is downloaded after the live stream starts, so allow for startup time and verify the source is reachable before the broadcast.
- Prepare the source. If you have multiple clips, join them into one MP4 before uploading or hosting it. Check that the sequence plays correctly from beginning to end. This is a workaround, not a native multi-file playlist schedule.
- Host the file and copy its source URL. Use an accessible HTTP, HTTPS, GS, or S3 location. Keep the URL and any access requirements available when configuring the stream.
- Create a Wowza Video live stream with the file source. In the setup workflow, choose Stream from File and provide the source URL. Wowza’s guide covers the file source setup: Stream a file in Wowza Video.
- Add YouTube as the external destination. In the live-stream details workflow, add an external-service target for RTMP. Get the current ingest URL, stream key, and any account-specific requirements from YouTube’s own current live-stream documentation; do not reuse example values or assume every account has identical requirements. Wowza’s guide explains the external target workflow and directs users to the destination for its ingest details: Live stream details page in Wowza Video.
- Start and check the feed before the intended broadcast. Confirm the source file is accessible, the Wowza stream becomes active, and YouTube accepts the incoming feed. A short end-to-end rehearsal can expose a bad source URL, incorrect destination settings, or a stream key problem before you rely on the feed.
Loop one file, if repeating it is enough
Wowza documents an advanced transcoder property called Play source file on a loop. It repeats a single source file; it does not turn several separate files into a scheduled playlist. The loop overrides the idle timeout, and the transcoder continues to incur charges until you manually stop it. Decide who will stop the stream and when before enabling a loop, and check current plan and billing terms with Wowza because the cited guide does not establish current prices or plan limits.

When you need a real multi-file schedule
A July 10, 2025 Wowza Community response from technical support representative Jason Hilton said that scheduled or playlist broadcasts of prerecorded video to multiple external platforms were not then a Wowza Video feature. Hilton wrote: “This particular functionality doesn’t currently exist in the Wowza Video service but it has been added as a feature request which will be considered for a future version.” Treat this as a dated status answer, not confirmation of the product’s status today. Check Wowza’s current documentation or ask its support team before choosing a workflow on that basis.
The same response suggested combining clips into a single MP4 as a limited workaround and identified Wowza Streaming Engine with its StreamPublisher module for playlist scheduling. Engine is a separate product, not a setting that converts Wowza Video’s file source into a multi-file scheduler. The cited answer does not supply detailed Engine configuration instructions, current availability, or costs.
