YouTube Studio’s documented scheduling workflow handles one live event at a time; the official material reviewed does not document a native CSV importer. To schedule many events from a CSV, use the file as input to a script that creates YouTube Live broadcasts through the YouTube Live Streaming API, then verify the events in Live Control Room. If by “playlist” you mean one live program that plays several videos in sequence, the documented workflow below does not establish a CSV-based way to do that.
First, clarify what “YouTube Live playlist” means
A playlist can mean either a series of separately scheduled live events, whose recordings you later organize together, or one live program that plays prerecorded videos in sequence. YouTube’s documented guidance covers scheduling individual broadcasts and organizing archives or highlights into playlists after an event; it does not describe a playlist as a container for scheduling multiple future broadcasts, or establish an official CSV scheduler for sequential video playback.
This guide covers scheduling a series of live events from CSV data. If your goal is one continuous program made from a sequence of uploaded videos, do not assume that importing a CSV into Studio will make those videos play live.
Choose manual scheduling or API automation
| Method | Best suited to | What it involves |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio | A handful of events | No code; enter each event in Live Control Room and review its settings. |
| YouTube Live Streaming API | Repeated or larger schedules | Build a script to parse and validate CSV rows, authenticate authorized API requests, create broadcasts and streams, and bind them. |
This is a practical comparison of the documented workflows, not a YouTube-published performance or volume claim. The official material reviewed does not document a Studio CSV-import feature or an official CSV template.

Schedule a small number of events in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go Live.
- Open Manage, then choose Schedule Stream.
- Create a new event or reuse settings from a previous stream.
- Review the title, scheduled start time, privacy setting, and other event metadata, then save or publish the scheduled event.
- Share the event’s watch-page link. Viewers can visit the page and opt into a reminder.
YouTube’s manual scheduling directions are in its Help Center guidance for scheduling a live stream.
Turn a CSV into scheduled broadcasts with the API
A CSV is just the input format for your own automation. Your script reads each row and makes authorized API calls; the CSV itself is not uploaded to Studio as a schedule. In the API model, a liveBroadcast is the scheduled event, while a liveStream represents the feed sent to YouTube. The documented flow creates the broadcast, creates or selects a compatible stream, and binds the two.

1. Define a clear CSV schema
For example, use columns named title, description, scheduled_start_time, and privacy_status. These are fields you choose for your script; they are not a YouTube-mandated CSV template. Decide how your script represents time zones and how it handles optional metadata before processing the file.
2. Validate every row before making write requests
The liveBroadcasts.insert reference requires a broadcast title, scheduled start time, and privacy status. Reject or flag rows with missing values, invalid privacy values, malformed or ambiguous timestamps, duplicate entries you did not intend, or start times that are no longer in the future. Be explicit about the time zone in the CSV or configuration; silently interpreting local times in the wrong zone can schedule an event at the wrong hour.

3. Authorize the script for the right channel
Use OAuth authorization for the channel owner or an authorized manager, with the API scope documented for the operation. Do not place account passwords or stream keys in the CSV. Keep OAuth credentials and stream keys private, and restrict access to any files or logs that could expose them.
4. Create each broadcast, create or select a stream, then bind them
For each validated row, send the broadcast insert request with the event’s required details. Then create or select a compatible liveStream resource and bind it to the broadcast. Follow Google’s Live Streaming API getting-started guide for the resource sequence and request structure. Keep the returned broadcast and stream identifiers associated with the original CSV row so you can trace outcomes and recover from partial failures.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
5. Record results and verify in Live Control Room
Write the returned broadcast IDs and watch-page links to an output file rather than overwriting your source schedule. Capture per-row success or error details, and inspect each event in Live Control Room before sharing the schedule. A script can make repeated entry more consistent and preserve a row-to-event record, but it still needs validation and error handling; a successful API response is not a substitute for checking the event’s displayed settings.
6. Treat the encoder setup as a separate job
Scheduling creates the event; transmitting the live program requires an encoder. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders, configured with the stream URL and stream key. The key is the credential an encoder uses to send the feed, so keep it secret. Set up the encoder in advance and check the preview in Live Control Room before starting. The API schedule does not itself supply a live program or make a playlist play through as a broadcast.

- YouTube says a channel must be verified and must have had no live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days to stream. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so check readiness before the first event rather than waiting until its scheduled start.
- Those are account readiness checks for streaming, not CSV formatting requirements.
- Once events are scheduled, share their watch-page links so viewers can set reminders. After an event, YouTube’s promotion guidance recommends organizing archives and highlight clips into playlists; this is separate from creating the event schedule.
See YouTube’s current live streaming requirements and restrictions and its guidance on promoting live streams.
Common CSV scheduling problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A row fails to create a broadcast | A required title, future start time, or privacy status is missing or invalid, or the request is not authorized. | Validate required fields and timestamps before submission; confirm the OAuth account and scope have permission for the intended channel. |
| The event appears at the wrong time | The CSV time had no explicit time zone, or the script interpreted it differently than intended. | Standardize the time-zone convention, parse timestamps consistently, and verify displayed start times in Live Control Room. |
| A broadcast exists but is not connected to the intended feed | The script did not create or select a compatible stream and bind it to that broadcast. | Check the stream resource and binding step for that row; retain IDs so you can identify which operation completed. |
| The event is scheduled but no live video arrives | Scheduling succeeded, but the encoder is not configured, has not started, or is using the wrong stream key or URL. | Check encoder settings and the YouTube preview. Treat the stream key as a private credential and replace it if exposed. |
| The first broadcast cannot go live | The channel may not be verified, may have a live-stream restriction, or first-time activation may still be pending. | Check YouTube’s channel eligibility guidance and allow for activation that YouTube says may take up to 24 hours. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream rather than schedule a series of separate live events, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams uploads as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers. StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
