How to Schedule Prerecorded Videos for a 24/7 YouTube Channel From a Server

A practical guide to scheduling a YouTube live event and sending a prerecorded playlist continuously from a server, with encoder settings, reliability checks and troubleshooting.

To run prerecorded videos as a continuous YouTube live stream from a server, you need two pieces: schedule a live event in YouTube Studio, then use server-side software or an encoder to play your videos and send the feed to YouTube. YouTube creates the event and provides the ingest URL and stream key; your chosen playback and encoding setup handles the playlist, looping and continuous operation.

How the 24/7 setup works

A scheduled YouTube stream is not itself a 24/7 video playlist. The scheduled event supplies the live watch page and ingest destination. A server-side player or other selected software plays your prerecorded files in sequence, while an encoder sends the resulting audio and video to YouTube.

  • YouTube Studio: creates the event, provides the stream URL and key, and shows the incoming preview.
  • Your server setup: stores or accesses the videos, plays them in the intended order, encodes the feed and maintains the outgoing connection.

YouTube’s encoder documentation covers its side of the connection, but does not prescribe a playlist program, looping command, server operating system, process supervisor or restart script. Choose and configure those according to the player and encoder you use; consult their documentation for exact steps.

Check channel eligibility first

Before building the server workflow, enable live streaming and confirm that the channel can use it. YouTube Help says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Its current live-streaming guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and sets the minimum age for live streaming at 16. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Schedule the YouTube event and connect the server

  1. Open YouTube Studio: select Create → Go live, then open Manage → Schedule stream in Live Control Room. Create a new stream or reuse prior settings. Reusing settings copies metadata, stream settings and the stream key, so review each before scheduling. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
  2. Set the event details: check the title, description, visibility and scheduled time. Confirm the audience and other settings are appropriate for the content and channel.
  3. Copy the ingest details: copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder configuration on your server. YouTube Help describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a secret; if it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
  4. Use RTMPS when supported: YouTube recommends encrypted ingest. In Stream settings, reveal and copy the RTMPS URL if it is not already displayed; do not assume that an RTMP address and an RTMPS address are interchangeable. YouTube notes that port 443 may help with some SSL connection issues. See YouTube’s RTMPS guidance.
  5. Configure playback and encoding: set your chosen server software to play the prerecorded files in the required order and feed that output to the encoder. Configure the encoder to send to the copied URL using the stream key. YouTube’s documentation does not establish one universal player command or playlist format.
  6. Start the encoder and check preview: wait for the signal to appear in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, click Go live when ready unless you have intentionally configured auto-start. Review auto-stop as well; these settings can change whether the event starts or ends manually.
  7. Verify the public result: check the watch page from a viewer’s perspective and confirm that video and audio are present. Keep the server process and outgoing signal under observation.

Set encoder quality for the actual source

Use YouTube’s current encoder table to choose bitrate for the resolution and frame rate you intend to send; there is no single bitrate that fits every stream. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 options, supports up to 60 fps, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and accepts AAC or MP3 audio subject to format-specific limits. Its guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate and resolution table for the applicable values. These are YouTube Help recommendations checked on October 3, 2026; the page does not display a publication year.

Match the encoder output to the source material and the selected settings. A video file that plays locally does not by itself prove that the server is sending a compatible, healthy stream; confirm the incoming preview and monitor audio and video after going live.

Choose a server and encoder approach

YouTube describes two broad encoder classes: software running on a computer and standalone hardware. Neither is stated as mandatory for a server workflow. Evaluate a candidate system by whether it can play your playlist, encode the chosen format continuously, accept YouTube’s ingest settings and recover appropriately after faults.

Approach What to confirm Trade-off
Software encoder on a computer or server That your selected player and encoder can work together, run continuously and expose the required URL, key and output settings. Flexible, but you are responsible for configuring and maintaining the software and host.
Standalone hardware encoder That the unit supports your media-playback workflow, selected output format and YouTube ingest settings. May suit a dedicated appliance workflow, but YouTube’s guidance does not specify a required model or establish that hardware is necessary.

YouTube says an encoder may be software running on a computer or standalone hardware; it does not state a minimum server specification for this use. An existing suitable computer can be the host. A separate always-on mini PC or dedicated server is an optional choice, not a YouTube requirement.

Test reliability before leaving it unattended

Build a test around the complete path—from media playback on the server through encoding and YouTube ingest to the viewer-facing watch page. Use an unlisted or private test where appropriate, then check:

  • Event privacy, metadata, schedule and stream key are correct.
  • The server player advances through the intended files and behaves correctly at the end of the playlist.
  • Live Control Room receives a preview before publishing.
  • Audio and video remain present and acceptable during a sustained run.
  • The server process and outgoing connection are monitored, with a restart or failover plan suited to the software you chose.
  • The public watch page is accessible on relevant devices.
  • Any backup encoder rollover is tested rather than assumed to work.
  • A local recording or separate archive plan is in place if you need a complete copy.

YouTube’s live-streaming tips advise checking preview, testing backup encoder failover, checking local archive growth, verifying viewer access and monitoring audio and video quality.

Plan separately for recordings and copyright

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its reviewed documentation does not establish that one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast will be archived in full. If a complete replay matters, consider shorter scheduled sessions or make a separate local recording; do not rely on a full archive of a continuous stream.

Confirm that you have the rights needed to stream every video, soundtrack and other included material. A continuous schedule does not change YouTube’s copyright rules or make permission unnecessary. Reusing recordings also does not guarantee monetization: assess the channel and its content against YouTube’s current policies rather than assuming that looping or scheduling makes a channel eligible.

Troubleshoot common failures

Symptom Likely check What to do
No incoming preview Server process, outgoing connection, copied URL, stream key and RTMP/RTMPS compatibility. Confirm the encoder is running, compare its destination and key with Live Control Room, and use the exact RTMPS URL if the encoder supports it.
Preview appears, but the event is not public Whether the scheduled stream is waiting for a manual start. Check Live Control Room and click Go live if auto-start is not enabled.
Video or audio is missing or unstable Player output, encoder format and settings, and the quality of the outgoing connection. Inspect the source playback and encoder output, use the applicable YouTube settings table, and monitor the preview and live feed.
Stream stops after a server or connection fault Whether the selected software or host has a tested recovery or failover process. Restart or fail over using the procedure documented for your software; test backup encoder rollover and recovery before relying on unattended operation.
Stream key may be exposed Who can access the key and where it has been stored or shared. Reset the key in Live Control Room, then update the server encoder configuration.
Expected full replay is missing Whether the broadcast exceeded YouTube’s documented under-12-hour automatic archive condition. Use shorter sessions or maintain a separate local recording if a complete archive is necessary.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want prerecorded videos to stay live on YouTube without maintaining a server at home, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos to a YouTube channel. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a scheduled YouTube stream without an encoder running?

No. The scheduled event provides the watch page and ingest details, but a player and encoder still need to send the live feed.

Will a 24/7 stream become one complete YouTube replay?

YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not a complete archive of an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast.
