To schedule different game VODs on a 24/7 YouTube channel, schedule a live event in YouTube Studio, then send it a continuous encoder feed that plays your videos in the order you choose. YouTube schedules the broadcast; your streaming software, cloud service, or compatible hardware handles VOD playback and looping.
How the setup works
A YouTube live event and the video feed are separate parts of the setup. In YouTube Studio, you create and schedule the event. An encoder converts your video into a digital format and sends it to YouTube. The encoder or playout system—not a YouTube upload playlist—determines which game VOD plays next and whether the sequence repeats. YouTube’s live encoder instructions list software encoders such as OBS.
Choose how to play the VODs
| Method | How it handles playback | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo (cloud) | Upload videos, arrange them as a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and start the stream. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud. | A creator who wants continuous playback without leaving a home computer on. | Check the service’s current terms and make sure your files fit its storage allowance. |
| Local software encoder, such as OBS | Configure the file or playlist playback in the software running on your computer, which sends the feed to YouTube. | A creator who wants to manage local files and playback directly. | The computer, encoder, power, and network connection must remain available. |
| Dedicated hardware | YouTube’s encoder directory lists AJA HELO Plus with PlayToStream for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. | A creator with a specific need for standalone hardware. | Specialized equipment; confirm current capabilities, price, and availability before buying. |
| YouTube Live Streaming API | Creates and manages YouTube broadcast and stream resources; it does not play your VOD files by itself. | Developers building a custom broadcast-management integration. | You still need a playback and encoder system. |
Cloud providers describe their own playlist and recovery features; those are vendor claims, not independent reliability test results. For an API-based build, Google documents the broadcast and stream resources at YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.
Prepare your game VODs and rights
Organize the rotation
- Put the VODs in the order you want viewers to see them, and decide whether the sequence should repeat.
- Confirm that each file plays correctly in your chosen playback setup before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.
- Plan how you will handle broadcast rotation and archives. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a continuous 24/7 broadcast will result in one complete archive.
Check permission for all material
Before broadcasting, verify that you have the necessary rights or permission for the game footage, music, overlays, and any other included material. A technical ability to stream a file does not establish permission to rebroadcast it or eligibility for monetization. YouTube and the relevant game publisher’s rules apply to your specific content. OneStream also cautions that platform policies on copyrighted and repetitive content still apply in its 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming guidance. Check current YouTube monetization and reused or repetitive-content requirements for your channel and actual VODs rather than assuming a loop qualifies.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Schedule and start the YouTube event
- Enable live streaming if necessary. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do this before the time you intend to go live.
- Create the scheduled event. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream. Reuse prior settings or create a new scheduled stream. A scheduled event gives viewers a shareable URL and lets them set reminders.
- Set up the playlist in your playback system. For local software, configure file or playlist playback in your encoder. For a cloud workflow, upload your files and arrange the playlist in the service. YouTube’s scheduled-event instructions do not make a YouTube playlist function as a live VOD rotation.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the encoder or service where requested. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Start the feed and confirm the event. Start the encoder. In YouTube’s documented scheduled-stream flow, wait for the preview to appear, check the stream, then click Go live in Studio.
- Monitor the broadcast. Check the YouTube preview and stream status, and confirm that videos play in the intended order and repeat as expected. For longer operations, have a plan to check playback and manage archives rather than assuming one 24/7 stream will create a single complete recording.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The scheduled event is not receiving video: Check that the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key were copied correctly from the intended event in Studio. If live streaming was just enabled for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours.
- The preview appears, but the event is not live: For YouTube’s documented scheduled workflow, wait for the preview and click Go live in Studio.
- The wrong VOD plays or the playlist does not repeat: Check the order and loop settings in the playback system. The sequencing comes from that system, not from a native YouTube upload playlist-as-live control.
- The broadcast stops when your computer goes offline: A local encoder depends on the computer, power, and network remaining available. Use a cloud workflow or suitable dedicated hardware if you need playback independent of a home computer.
- You cannot find one complete 24-hour archive: YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. Plan for archive rotation and verify the resulting recordings in Studio instead of expecting one continuous archive.
- A stream works technically but raises a rights or monetization concern: Review the rights for the actual footage and audio, and check current YouTube policies for your channel. Successful transmission alone does not settle permission or monetization eligibility.
