Playlist ordering, scheduled video publishing, and scheduling a livestream are separate features. YouTube documents publish-date ordering for Shows, but that is not the same as an automatic upload-date sort for a regular playlist or a continuous broadcast.
If you need a future live event, you can schedule the event in YouTube Studio and start an encoder feed at the scheduled time. If you need prerecorded videos to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock, you need a way to send a continuous stream; YouTube’s documented scheduling controls alone do not do that.
What YouTube can—and cannot—schedule

Keep upload date and publish date distinct. A video can be uploaded before it is made public, so the two dates need not match. YouTube’s documented Shows behavior refers to publish date; it does not establish an automatic upload-date sorting control for a conventional playlist.
Schedule a one-time YouTube livestream
For a future event rather than an always-on channel, YouTube’s documented route is to schedule a stream in Live Control Room, then connect an encoder and start sending the feed when it is time to go live.

- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open Manage, then select Schedule stream.
- Create a new stream or reuse settings from an earlier stream.
- At the scheduled time, connect your encoder using the stream URL and stream key. Send the feed, then start the stream in Live Control Room.
- When finished, end the stream in Live Control Room and stop sending the feed.
YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived. This is an archive behavior, not a promise that a scheduled playlist will continue broadcasting indefinitely.
Schedule a video to become public later
To publish one video at a chosen time, use the video upload flow in YouTube Studio. In the Schedule card, choose the date, time, and time zone. This schedules when that video becomes public; it does not schedule playlist playback or start a livestream.

Be aware that YouTube says the date shown on the watch page is based on Pacific Standard Time. Depending on your time zone, it can differ from the date you see in Studio.
Set episode order for a YouTube Show
If your goal is to organize a series as a Show rather than broadcast it live, YouTube says episodes are ordered by publish date by default. If you manually specify the playlist order, episode numbers follow that order instead. You can also edit episode or season numbers in Studio.

This is useful for presenting a documentary series in episode order, but it does not turn the Show into a continuous 24/7 stream, nor does it establish that YouTube sorts episodes by upload date.

The documented YouTube controls above cover video publication, episode order, and scheduled live events. They do not document a built-in 24/7 playlist scheduler. A scheduled event still requires an encoder feed to be connected and started at broadcast time, so scheduling the event alone does not keep prerecorded videos on air continuously.

Common points of confusion
- “I scheduled the video, so will it play at that time?” Scheduling makes an individual video public. It does not schedule that video to start playing in a playlist or live broadcast.
- “My playlist is in date order, so will it go live?” Playlist order controls arrangement, not a livestream. A live event needs a feed.
- “Does a scheduled livestream start itself?” YouTube’s documented encoder workflow requires connecting the encoder and starting the stream in Live Control Room at broadcast time.
- “Does publish-date order mean upload-date order?” No. YouTube’s Shows guidance specifies publish date, and upload and publication can occur on different dates.
- “Will a stream archive if I leave it running all day?” YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That threshold should not be treated as guidance for uninterrupted broadcasting beyond that duration.
