You can schedule the event in YouTube Studio, then have Wirecast’s encoder feed start it automatically—but scheduling and sending the live video are separate steps. Enable YouTube’s auto-start setting for the scheduled stream and the corresponding event-start option in Wirecast. At the scheduled time, start Wirecast’s output and check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Exact Wirecast labels vary by version.
Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Open Manage, then choose Schedule stream. Create a new stream or reuse a previous stream’s settings.
- Review the title, description, visibility, date and time, and other event details, then save. A scheduled event can appear as upcoming so viewers can opt into reminders. Scheduling does not send Wirecast’s video or audio to YouTube. See YouTube’s encoder setup and scheduling instructions.
Enable YouTube auto-start and check the event settings
Open the scheduled stream’s settings and check Auto-start. YouTube explains that when these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder. You may also choose whether to enable auto-stop, which lets the encoder stop the event. If you reused settings, verify both selections: YouTube carries forward the earlier auto-start and auto-stop choices. See YouTube’s explanation of live stream settings.
Connect Wirecast to the scheduled YouTube event
- In Wirecast, choose or configure the YouTube destination and associate it with the correct scheduled event. The exact menu sequence depends on your Wirecast release and destination mode; Telestream organizes its Wirecast documentation by version.
- Find the equivalent of Wirecast’s event-start control and enable it if available. A Telestream Wirecast 11 Windows guide labels this option Automatically Start Event and says it starts the YouTube event when streaming starts. That is historical, version-specific documentation, not a guarantee that current releases use the same label or expose the setting in the same place. Consult the guide for your installed release if the controls differ; Telestream’s version history records YouTube integration changes and fixes.
- Confirm that Wirecast is authorized for the intended YouTube account and that the selected destination points to the scheduled event. If you use the server-and-key workflow, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key into the Wirecast destination. The URL and key connect Wirecast to YouTube’s ingest stream; treat the key like a password. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the connection requirements.
Start the stream and verify it is live
- Set up and test the encoder ahead of time. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours before an event and starting them at least 15 minutes before it. Its streaming tips also advise checking the preview before starting the encoder and monitoring stream health.
- At the planned time, start Wirecast’s stream output. Open Live Control Room and confirm the preview shows the expected video and audio and that YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream.
- With YouTube auto-start and Wirecast’s event-start control enabled, the encoder feed should start the scheduled event. Confirm in Live Control Room that the event has actually gone live.
Choose automatic start or the manual fallback
| Workflow | Start action | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-start enabled | Start Wirecast’s stream output; YouTube can start the event from the encoder feed. | Auto-start is enabled on the selected event; Wirecast targets the correct event; preview and stream health are correct. |
| Manual YouTube launch | Start Wirecast output, confirm the preview, then click Go live in Live Control Room. | Correct stream URL and key, expected preview, and manual launch at the scheduled time. |
Use the manual route if auto-start is off or your installed Wirecast version does not expose the expected event-start control. YouTube’s encoder guide describes the standard workflow of starting the encoder, checking the preview, and clicking Go live; its settings guide explains when encoder controls can start or stop the event.
Troubleshoot a scheduled stream that does not start
- YouTube receives no preview: Check that Wirecast is outputting to YouTube, the selected account and destination are correct, and the stream URL and key match the intended stream. Confirm the encoder is running and review YouTube’s stream-health status.
- Preview appears, but the event stays scheduled: Check YouTube’s Auto-start setting for this event and Wirecast’s event-start option. If the installed version lacks that control or the event still does not start, use Go live in Live Control Room after confirming the preview.
- The wrong event is receiving the feed: Recheck the scheduled event associated with Wirecast’s YouTube destination and verify the account. Do not assume that reusing settings selected the right event or preserved the desired auto-start choice.
- The controls do not match instructions: Wirecast’s interface and YouTube integration can differ by release and destination mode. Use Telestream’s version-specific documentation rather than relying on a Wirecast 11 screenshot or label.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that stays live with uploaded video, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast a camera feed.
