How to Schedule a StreamVoodoo YouTube Stream to Start Automatically

A scheduled YouTube event does not launch StreamVoodoo or its encoder. Configure Auto-start, arrange a separate timed encoder launch, and rehearse the full broadcast chain.

You can schedule a YouTube event and have YouTube start it when an encoder feed arrives—but scheduling the event does not start StreamVoodoo, OBS, vMix, or the computer running them. For an unattended start, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, enable Auto-start if it is available, and separately arrange a timed launch for your production encoder. Test the entire chain before relying on it: YouTube’s documented encoder workflow includes checking the preview and clicking Go live, so confirm how your event behaves with its current settings.

What “start automatically” means

There are three separate actions in this setup, and only one is controlled by YouTube’s Auto-start setting:

  • Schedule the YouTube event: This creates an upcoming event viewers may find and set a reminder for. YouTube says, “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream.” Scheduling alone does not launch StreamVoodoo or an encoder. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder
  • Start sending an encoder feed: StreamVoodoo’s documented workflow connects participants in browser-based rooms and makes their feeds available to a production switcher such as OBS or vMix. The switcher/encoder must send the resulting feed to YouTube. StreamVoodoo FAQ
  • Let YouTube start the event: With Auto-start enabled, YouTube says you can start streaming from the encoder. The encoder must still begin sending video. This setting does not schedule the encoder itself. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings

So an event scheduled for a particular time can remain waiting if nothing upstream starts the encoder feed. To make the production chain unattended, you need a separate timed launch for the encoder or the computer/process running it—and you must verify whether YouTube still requires a manual confirmation for your setup.

Schedule the YouTube event and configure Auto-start

  1. Open the scheduling controls: In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then Manage → Schedule stream. Choose to reuse previous settings or create a new event.
  2. Enter the event details: Set the title and other metadata, scheduled time, and privacy choice. Check the event’s visibility rather than assuming a default: YouTube says default privacy differs by age—users aged 13–17 default to private, while users 18 or older default to public—and creators can change it. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder
  3. Check Auto-start on this event: Enable it if you want YouTube to start the scheduled event when the encoder feed begins. If you reused settings, review both Auto-start and Auto-stop: YouTube says those selections carry over when stream settings are reused. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings
  4. Copy the stream URL and key into your encoder: Use the event’s YouTube connection details in the software that sends the production output. Treat the stream key like a password; YouTube describes it as a credential/address-like value that lets YouTube accept the encoder feed. Keep it private, and reset it if it is compromised. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings

Connect StreamVoodoo and arrange the timed launch

  1. Build the production feed: Connect the StreamVoodoo room output to your production switcher/encoder. StreamVoodoo’s FAQ describes bringing room video feeds into a broadcast with software such as OBS or vMix. StreamVoodoo FAQ
  2. Schedule the encoder separately: Arrange for the encoder, or the machine/process running it, to start sending the feed at the intended time. YouTube’s documented workflow treats starting the encoder as a separate action; its event scheduler does not establish that a third-party encoder will launch on a timer. StreamVoodoo’s FAQ content reviewed describes room feeds and switchers, but does not document a timed-start control.
  3. Rehearse unattended conditions: Test the complete sequence, including whether the StreamVoodoo browser room, switcher, computer, power settings, and network remain available. A scheduled task on a computer cannot send a feed if that computer is asleep, offline, or the production process fails to start.
  4. Check YouTube before the broadcast: Inspect the event preview and privacy setting. The official encoder workflow includes waiting for the preview and clicking Go live; do not assume an unattended launch bypasses that step. Confirm the current controls on your channel with a rehearsal before depending on automatic startup. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder

Why a scheduled stream may still be waiting

  • No encoder feed has started: The event time passing does not start OBS, vMix, or the computer. Check the independent timed launch and whether the encoder is sending to the correct YouTube stream URL and key.
  • Auto-start is off or settings were reused: Open the specific event and verify Auto-start. Reused settings can carry prior Auto-start and Auto-stop choices.
  • The production chain stopped upstream: Check the StreamVoodoo room, switcher, encoder, computer power/sleep state, and network connection. The failure may be before YouTube receives a feed.
  • YouTube is waiting for confirmation: Check the event preview and current Go live behavior. A scheduled event and a running encoder do not prove that the event has actually begun broadcasting.
  • The event is not visible as intended: Verify its privacy setting in Studio; default privacy depends on the creator’s age and can be changed.

Audio monitoring and archive limits

If you enable StreamVoodoo Studio Sound, its FAQ recommends headphones to reduce speaker audio feeding back into the microphone. Headphones help monitor audio; they do not automate scheduling. StreamVoodoo FAQ
