If the recording matters, make a local recording during the stream too: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, and recommends keeping a local archive as backup.
Where to find a past YouTube live stream
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Content > Live.
- Find and select the past stream you want to preserve.
- Check its archive and visibility settings. YouTube says live-stream archives are uploaded to the channel by default; you can manage the archive there, including changing its visibility or deleting it. See YouTube Help: Archive live streams and YouTube Help: Promote your live stream.
A channel replay is not the same as an independent backup. The replay can be made private or deleted, while a downloaded or exported copy is stored separately.
Make a local recording while you stream
If you need the original recording made by your camera, encoder, or capture setup, save it locally during the broadcast. YouTube explicitly recommends recording a local archive as a backup. This also protects you if an automatic channel archive is missing or the available download does not meet your quality needs.
Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive for a broadcast longer than 12 hours: YouTube says it may not capture a stream exceeding that length at all. If preserving the whole program is important, use a local recording regardless of whether you expect a channel replay.

Download one of your own livestreams from YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live and locate the past stream.
- Open the video’s menu and choose Download.
- After the MP4 finishes downloading, upload it to your chosen cloud storage account. Check that the destination has enough available space before starting.
YouTube documents individual Studio downloads as MP4 files at 720p or 360p, depending on video size. That may not be the original camera or encoder file, so retain your local recording if you need that source copy. YouTube also limits an individual video to five downloads in 24 hours. The Studio download may be unavailable if the video was removed, has a copyright or Community Guidelines strike, or uses a pre-approved audio track. This creator download workflow is for videos you uploaded. It is different from YouTube Premium offline viewing; YouTube says other users’ videos cannot be downloaded through this creator-download option.

Export YouTube videos in bulk with Google Takeout
- Open Google Takeout and select the YouTube data you want included in the export.
- Choose an available delivery destination. Google documents options that include Drive, Box, OneDrive, or Dropbox; available choices can vary.
- Confirm the destination account has enough room for the export. If you prefer, download the export first and upload it yourself to the cloud account you use.
- If the expected channel videos are missing, check whether they belong to a Brand Account and switch to the relevant account before exporting.
Takeout is useful when you want a broader export rather than downloading videos one at a time. Google says downloading your data does not delete it from Google’s servers. Its help page does not promise that every livestream export is byte-for-byte identical to your local source recording, so keep the original local file when that distinction matters.

There is no universal storage-capacity figure for livestream archives. File size depends on factors such as recording length, resolution, bitrate, and how many recordings you keep. Check the size of actual recordings and the available space in your chosen account rather than assuming a fixed quota or cost.
