Use OBS Studio on the Windows mini PC to loop a prerecorded promo video, send it to YouTube Live, preview the stream, and then start the scheduled broadcast. For one video, add an OBS Media Source and enable Loop; for several promos, use a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. The mini PC must sustain the chosen video settings and upload rate, so test the exact setup before the promotion.
Before you set up the promo loop
- Enable YouTube Live early. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Check readiness in advance in YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Prepare the promo assets. Confirm that you have the rights to the video and music you plan to broadcast, and check any requirements applicable to your promotion and location. The streaming setup alone cannot establish whether particular assets are cleared.
- Check the actual PC, not just its size. OBS lists Windows 10 or Windows 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its basic requirements, but meeting them does not guarantee streaming capability. Performance depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. See OBS system requirements.
A Windows mini PC for OBS streaming is the computer running the encoder, not a guarantee of a particular performance level. Compare its supported hardware encoder and ability to sustain your intended settings, then test the full scene on that machine before relying on it for a public promotion. OBS supports Intel Quick Sync on supported Intel graphics, which can shift encoding work to a specialized component; availability depends on the hardware. Build a looping scene in OBS
Loop one promo video
- Install and open OBS Studio, then create or select the scene for the promotion.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source.
- Choose the local video file and enable Loop in the source properties. OBS documents support for common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM.
- Set the scene dimensions to suit the video and intended broadcast. Check the preview for cropping, black bars, or unintended overlays.
- Play the source and listen to its audio. Make sure the promo’s sound is intentional and at an appropriate level before broadcasting.
Loop a sequence of promo files
- Install VLC. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC; OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source.
- In the scene’s Sources panel, select + and add a VLC Video source.
- Add the promo files to the source playlist and put them in the intended playback order.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then preview the transitions and listen for gaps, abrupt changes, or unintended audio.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule the promotion.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube describes the stream key as password-like: do not share it publicly. If it is compromised, a channel owner or manager can reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Choose RTMPS if it is offered and supported by your encoder. YouTube recommends this secure transport; use the RTMPS URL shown in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
- In OBS, select Start Streaming. Wait for the stream to appear in the Live Control Room preview and check the video and audio there.
- For a scheduled stream, select Go live in YouTube after confirming the preview. Starting OBS sends the encoder feed; it does not by itself replace YouTube’s scheduled-event launch step.
YouTube’s encoder workflow is designed for a software encoder and production elements managed by the creator. Its guidance describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming.

Choose settings the mini PC and connection can sustain
Set the OBS output to match the promo source and your available upload capacity. YouTube’s published recommendation for H.264 at 1080p30 is 14 Mbps, using CBR; it recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. These are YouTube recommendations, not evidence that a particular mini PC or internet connection can maintain them. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings, test upload capacity, and leave enough headroom for a stable feed.
- Choose resolution and frame rate based on the source material, the mini PC’s encoder capability, and stable upload capacity.
- Use the H.264 bitrate recommendation as a reference for the specific 1080p30 case above, not as a universal value for every resolution or frame rate.
- Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval for the cited YouTube recommendation; do not set the interval above four seconds.
- Run a representative test with the actual scene, motion, audio, and encoding settings. OBS’s basic requirements do not establish that a specific mini PC will handle the workload.
Preflight, start, and monitor the promotion
- Set up the encoder at least two hours before the event if possible. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event.
- Run a test using the actual promo files, scene, audio, and output settings. Check the preview and stream-health messages in Live Control Room.
- Confirm that the YouTube watch page is available and that the video and sound appear as intended before inviting viewers or beginning the promotion.
- During the broadcast, keep an eye on stream health, audio, and video. A successful initial preview does not ensure the connection will remain stable.
- When the promotion is over, stop the YouTube event and the OBS encoder. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.

Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
- The channel cannot go live: verify channel status and enablement in YouTube Studio. A first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours; restrictions in the preceding 90 days also affect eligibility.
- The video stops instead of repeating: open the Media Source properties and check Loop. For a playlist, verify the files are in the VLC Video source and Loop Playlist is enabled.
- VLC Video is unavailable: install VLC and match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- The stream does not appear in Live Control Room: check that OBS has the correct event’s stream URL and key, and that streaming has started. Treat the key as a credential and reset it if compromised.
- The preview stutters or stream health is poor: test upload capacity and reduce the output demand—such as resolution, frame rate, or bitrate—until the exact mini PC and connection can sustain it. The 1080p30 recommendation is not a guarantee of local capacity.
- Video is present but sound is missing or wrong: check the source’s audio and OBS’s audio levels in the preview before going live; test with representative material rather than assuming the promo’s soundtrack will route correctly.
