You can use software on a computer, standalone encoder hardware or a cloud service for prerecorded videos. YouTube’s key archive limitation is that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so keep a local recording if preserving a complete replay matters.
Choose the feed and continuity approach
Decide first whether the broadcast will be a live performance or prerecorded material arranged into a continuous feed. For a live performance, the encoder sends camera and microphone input. For a prerecorded feed, arrange the videos into a lawful playlist or other playback workflow and send that output to YouTube.
Then choose who will keep the feed running and restore it after a problem:
- Software encoder: flexible and can use an existing computer, but the computer, network and encoder process become part of the continuity plan.
- Standalone hardware encoder: an option for a dedicated production setup. YouTube documents hardware encoders but does not require one for a basic stream; compare inputs, ingest protocol, restart behavior and local recording before buying.
- Cloud prerecorded-stream service: can play uploaded material without leaving a home computer running. Compare operating cost, recovery behavior, monitoring, archive ownership and rights controls.
YouTube’s encoder guidance includes a cloud-based tool category for 24/7 prerecorded video, but that is not an evaluation or endorsement of any particular service. Prepare the channel and content
Confirm live-stream eligibility
YouTube Help says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enable live streaming well ahead of launch: first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. These are YouTube’s stated eligibility and activation conditions, not a guarantee that a broadcast will remain uninterrupted.
Clear rights for every element
The channel is responsible for having the rights needed to broadcast its content, including music rights for worldwide use. That applies to devotional songs and recordings as well as artwork, temple footage and other visuals. A song being devotional, traditional or available online does not by itself establish that a particular recording or arrangement is cleared for your use.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A detected match can replace the image, interrupt the broadcast or terminate it. If you have a license, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; an archive may also receive a Content ID claim after the stream ends. Get permission for the specific recordings and uses, keep documentation, and confirm any required allowlisting before relying on a license. Set up a YouTube encoder stream
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule the stream. In the stream’s setup, retrieve the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Configure your encoder. Enter the server URL and stream key, select the intended video and audio inputs, and choose settings that match the resolution and frame rate you plan to send. Use RTMPS for encrypted ingest where supported.
- Set stable video encoding values. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not set the keyframe interval above four seconds. Consult YouTube’s current bitrate table for your chosen resolution and frame rate rather than assuming one bitrate fits every stream.
- Measure upload capacity and leave headroom. YouTube recommends leaving 20% room between available upload bandwidth and the total streaming bitrate. Base the setting on the connection’s measured, sustained upload performance, not just the advertised plan speed. If other devices share the connection, account for their traffic too.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that the picture, audio and stream health appear as expected in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast.
- Test the complete path. YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours before an event and starting the encoder 15 minutes beforehand. Check playback from the channel’s watch page and a mobile device, listen for audio problems, verify that the local recording file is growing, and test any planned backup encoder or failover procedure.
Encoder settings depend on the selected resolution and frame rate, so use the current YouTube table when configuring a particular output. The recommendations above are platform guidance, not a promise of uninterrupted service.

Plan for 24/7 operation and replay
A continuous broadcast and a complete replay archive are different goals. YouTube Help says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup.
If replay preservation matters, record locally and consider dividing the schedule into shorter sessions that can be restarted. That adds restart points for the operator to manage, but avoids relying on a single long stream to produce a complete YouTube archive. Choose the session length and recovery design around your staffing, source media and viewers’ needs; there is no universally best cadence established by YouTube’s guidance.

For any approach, write down who receives alerts and how to restore the feed after power, network, encoder or rights interruptions. Monitor the actual stream and local recording, and test the recovery path rather than assuming a backup will work.
