You can run a podcast stream on YouTube from a mini PC by using OBS to send an audio-led scene to YouTube Live over RTMPS. Create an encoder event in YouTube Studio, connect OBS with the event’s stream key, then start the encoder, check YouTube’s preview and select Go live. For a 24/7-style channel, the PC, audio source and internet connection must remain available—and a single YouTube event should not be treated as an indefinitely guaranteed stream or archive.
What you need before setting up
- A YouTube channel eligible to stream live: it must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned start. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements
- A mini PC that can handle your chosen encoder, resolution, frame rate and OBS scene, plus a stable upload connection.
- OBS Studio, the podcast audio source (such as an audio interface, mixer or USB microphone), and a simple visual such as episode artwork or a show image.
- An event created in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, which provides the stream URL and private stream key.
There is no single mini PC specification that guarantees a successful stream. OBS warns: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” Its guidance says workload varies with the encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Check the actual computer with your intended setup before relying on it continuously. OBS Studio system requirements
Set up YouTube Live and OBS
1. Enable live streaming and create an encoder event
- In YouTube Studio, confirm that the channel is verified and eligible for live streaming. If this is the first time the channel will stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Choose the encoder streaming option.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it could send a feed to your event. Do not publish it or show it on screen.

2. Build a light audio-led OBS scene
- Connect your podcast audio source to the mini PC and confirm that it appears as an input device.
- In OBS, add the audio input to a scene and check its meter while speaking or playing a test recording. Monitor for clipping, silence and unwanted background noise.
- Add a static show image, episode artwork or modest visualizer if you want a visual destination for viewers. Keep unnecessary animated browser overlays, filters and effects to a minimum; OBS sources and scene complexity use system resources.
For a continuous podcast feed, decide in advance what audio OBS will send after the current episode ends. A static image can remain on screen while a prepared playlist or other audio source plays, but the precise looping method depends on how you build the scene and audio playback workflow. Test the complete sequence rather than assuming that OBS or YouTube will automatically cycle episodes.

3. Configure the YouTube output
- In OBS, select YouTube/RTMPS if offered, or enter the server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room. YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS.
- For a conventional SDR stream, use a supported video codec such as H.264 and set rate control to CBR. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube says it should not exceed 4 seconds.
- Use a supported audio codec. For stereo, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 44.1 kHz sampling with 128 kbps audio. For SDR, its guidance lists Rec. 709.
- Choose resolution, frame rate and bitrate to suit the content, the mini PC and reliable upload capacity. The following are YouTube’s current H.264 bitrate figures in the referenced encoder guidance; they are recommendations, not guarantees of a particular result.

For a mostly static podcast image, higher frame rates may add little visible value. Choose settings the machine can encode and the connection can sustain, then verify stream health in YouTube rather than assuming a bitrate table guarantees stability. Consult YouTube’s current encoder settings before configuring a production stream because platform recommendations can change.
4. Start the stream and verify the viewer experience
- Start streaming in OBS before the scheduled start time.
- Wait for the preview to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Check the video, audio and stream-health indicators.
- Confirm the event is visible to the intended audience, then select Go live in YouTube.
- Keep OBS and YouTube’s stream-health view available during the show so you can notice a dropped connection, missing audio or encoding problem.
Make a mini PC suitable for a long-running stream
Test the actual workload
Compatibility is not proof of endurance. Before relying on a mini PC, run an extended test appropriate to your intended schedule using the real audio source, scene, encoder, resolution, bitrate and network. Review OBS statistics or logs and YouTube’s stream-health messages. No general OBS compatibility list can establish that a particular mini PC will remain reliable around the clock.

Hardware encoding can shift video-encoding work away from the CPU, but support depends on the mini PC’s graphics hardware and platform. A simple scene and a supported hardware encoder are reasonable factors to evaluate—not a proven minimum specification or guarantee of 24/7 operation.
Protect the connection and audio chain
YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with about 20% headroom above the stream bitrate, and warns that network disruptions can interrupt a stream. Measure upload capacity, test at the intended settings and leave room for normal variation. A wired Ethernet connection is a practical option for a stationary mini PC, though it is not a stated YouTube requirement. YouTube’s streaming setup guidance

Check that the audio device remains available after restarts, that the operating system will not unexpectedly reboot during a stream, and that power and network equipment are dependable. Decide how you will respond if OBS, the PC or the connection stops. Neither OBS nor YouTube documentation guarantees recovery from every failure.
What “continuous” means for YouTube archives
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not establish that an event running longer than 12 hours will be archived in full, or that a single event can run indefinitely. Treat continuous streaming as an operational goal, not a promise about one event’s duration or archive.

If a complete replay matters, plan how to preserve it—such as arranging separate sessions or making a local recording—and verify YouTube’s current archive behavior before launch. A long-running schedule also needs a plan for restarts, interruptions and any gaps between sessions.

Repeatedly playing the same recording is a technical choice, not a guarantee of monetization eligibility or audience suitability. Make the stream’s title and description accurately identify what is playing, and avoid implying that a live host or new episode is present when the feed is prerecorded.
Choose between a mini PC, encoder hardware or cloud streaming
YouTube’s encoder guidance includes software encoders, hardware encoders and cloud services. The practical choice is who maintains the system, how the material is scheduled or looped, what happens after an outage, how recordings are preserved, what output quality is needed, and what operating cost and complexity are acceptable.
