You can add a YouTube Giving fundraiser to a scheduled YouTube live stream if your channel has access and the nonprofit meets YouTube’s requirements. Check both before planning the campaign: YouTube generally lists 10,000 subscribers and YouTube Partner Program membership among the creator criteria, while the beneficiary must be an eligible U.S. public charity. If YouTube Giving is unavailable, Google for Nonprofits describes linking to an external fundraiser from a video end screen as an alternative.
Who can fundraise on YouTube?
Eligibility has two separate parts: the creator’s channel and the charity receiving donations. Meeting one set of requirements does not satisfy the other.
Creator channel requirements
YouTube currently lists these requirements for YouTube Giving access: the channel must be in an available location, have at least 10,000 subscribers, belong to the YouTube Partner Program, and not be designated Made for Kids. YouTube notes that some channels may see access even outside these stated criteria, so check the Giving area in YouTube Studio rather than treating the list as a guarantee or an absolute account-level ruling. Beneficiary charity requirements
The beneficiary must be a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) public charity, enrolled in Google for Nonprofits, opted in to online fundraising through GuideStar, and compliant with YouTube’s monetization and Community Guidelines policies. A charity’s general nonprofit status alone is not enough. YouTube explains the nonprofit criteria and donation handling in its YouTube Giving FAQs.

How to set up a YouTube Giving fundraiser for a scheduled live stream
Set up the fundraiser in YouTube Studio and attach the scheduled stream before publishing. You can also configure a fundraiser from the Live Control Room while preparing the stream.

Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Earn > Giving.

Select Get started, then Create a fundraiser.

Select an available eligible nonprofit, or request that YouTube add one if it is not listed.

Enter the fundraiser details, including its title and description. Add collaborators if appropriate, and set a suggested goal and duration.

Add the videos or scheduled live stream that should carry the fundraiser. Verify that you selected the intended upcoming stream.

Review the campaign and select Publish. The fundraiser can also be set up in Live Control Room under Advanced Settings while creating the live stream.
The Donate button appears on the watch page or in chat once the fundraiser’s start date arrives. If it is a community fundraiser, other eligible channels may join; totals can be shown across participating channels and videos, so a combined displayed total should not automatically be attributed to one stream.

What viewers see when they donate
When a scheduled live stream is attached to the fundraiser and live chat is enabled, viewers can use the Donate control in chat. On mobile, viewers need to hold the phone in portrait orientation to see chat. Depending on the YouTube viewing surface, a Donate button can also appear on the watch page.
A donor can choose whether to make a Live Chat Donation public. If made public, the creator can see the donor’s account name and donation amount; do not promise anonymity when the donor chooses public display. YouTube states: “100% of the money you donate will go to the nonprofit. YouTube also covers credit card transaction fees.” Network for Good collects and distributes contributions; YouTube says distributions are typically monthly, while amounts under $10 are distributed annually. The nonprofit must opt in to receive funds through Network for Good. Donation processing may be non-refundable, and whether a contribution is tax-deductible depends on the donor’s location. Check YouTube’s location-specific tax information and Giving FAQs before making claims to donors.

If YouTube Giving is not available
Google for Nonprofits describes using a video end screen to link viewers to an external fundraiser, with GoFundMe and JustGiving named as examples of approved third-party fundraising sites. An end screen can appear during the final 5–20 seconds of a video. This is not the same as a Donate button in live chat: viewers follow the link to the external campaign, and its own terms and handling apply. Verify that the charity’s campaign URL is correct and check current platform and YouTube policies before publishing. See Google for Nonprofits’ guidance.

Check these issues if the Donate button is missing

The start date has not arrived: the Donate control appears when the fundraiser starts. Check its scheduled start date in YouTube Studio.

The live stream was not attached: return to the fundraiser setup and confirm that the correct scheduled live stream is included.

Live chat is off: chat donations require live chat to be enabled. The watch-page button may still be a separate viewing-surface option.

The channel or charity is not eligible: review the Giving area in Studio and confirm the beneficiary meets YouTube’s nonprofit requirements.

The content is Made for Kids: YouTube’s listed creator criteria exclude channels designated Made for Kids.

A mobile viewer cannot find chat: ask them to view in portrait orientation.
Equipment and stream preparation
YouTube’s fundraiser setup instructions do not require a special webcam, microphone, lighting kit, or capture device. A webcam can be one optional video source for a computer-based live production, but it is not a YouTube Giving requirement. Check the live stream itself in YouTube’s live-streaming overview, and make sure the campaign details and charity link are clear to viewers.
