To loop a video on YouTube Live from a gaming laptop, add the local file to an OBS Studio Media Source, enable Loop, and stream the scene to YouTube using your stream URL and stream key. For 4K at 60fps, YouTube recommends a video bitrate of 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265, or 50 Mbps for H.264. Those are encoder bitrates—not a guarantee that an Indian broadband connection or a particular laptop can sustain the broadcast. Test both at the actual streaming location before going live.
What you need before setting up the loop
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup guide and live streaming tips explain channel readiness.
- OBS Studio installed on the laptop, plus a video file you have the right to stream.
- A stable upload connection with enough headroom for your chosen video bitrate, as well as a laptop encoder that can handle the resolution, frame rate, codec, and scene.
A capture card is not inherently needed to loop a local video file. A gaming-laptop label or OBS’s basic system requirements do not establish that the machine can encode a sustained 4K60 stream; OBS specifically cautions that meeting compatible system requirements does not guarantee streaming capability. Set up YouTube Live and OBS
- Confirm live access. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and check that the channel can stream. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or manage a stream. In the Live Control Room, create a stream or select one to manage. Copy its server URL and stream key, then enter them in OBS under Settings > Stream. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your stream.
- Create a scene and add your video. In OBS, add a scene, then add a Media Source. Choose the local video file and enable Loop so it restarts when playback reaches the end. OBS documents support for MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM files in its Media Sources guide.
- Set the output for 4K60. Use 3840×2160 resolution and 60fps. Select a codec and bitrate the laptop’s encoder supports, then apply the YouTube settings below. For SDR, YouTube’s advanced settings list Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth.
- Test the complete scene. Start a test stream, check the Live Control Room preview, and monitor stream health and audio/video. Use representative motion and audio, not just a static frame. Run an upload speed test where the laptop will be broadcasting, and repeat it at the time you expect to stream.
- Start the public broadcast only after the preview is sound. Follow the Live Control Room’s controls to start the stream. Keep OBS and the laptop running for the duration of this do-it-yourself broadcast.
4K60 encoder settings YouTube recommends
YouTube’s live encoder guidance, checked October 3, 2026, gives the following values for 4K at 60fps. The bitrate is the video bitrate sent by the encoder, not a recommended broadband plan speed.

For both choices, use constant bitrate (CBR), RTMP or RTMPS ingest, and a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends RTMPS and says the keyframe interval should not exceed 4 seconds. The supported live video codecs listed by YouTube are H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, up to 60fps. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions table when configuring the encoder.

Choosing between AV1/H.265 and H.264
There is no universally best codec for every gaming laptop. The available hardware encoders differ by laptop, and encoding load depends on the device, settings, and scene. Use a codec the laptop actually supports, then test it at the intended resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. Do not assume that a lower recommended bitrate means a particular codec will run successfully on your machine.
Upload speed and headroom
The 35 Mbps and 50 Mbps figures above describe YouTube’s recommended video bitrate. They are not India-wide ISP speed findings and do not account for connection variation or other network use. Measure upload capacity at the actual broadcast location, leave headroom above the selected video bitrate, and test the real stream at the planned time. A speed-test result alone cannot prove that the connection will remain stable throughout a long broadcast.

Loop one video or cycle through a playlist
One video file
Use OBS’s Media Source for a single local recording and enable Loop. When playback reaches the end, OBS starts the file again. Check the file and scene in a test broadcast so you can catch problems such as unwanted gaps, missing audio, or an incorrect source before going public.
A playlist of videos
For a playlist, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed; if OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC. This method is for cycling through files, while the Media Source Loop option is the direct choice for repeating one file.

Limits and practical considerations
- Latency: At 4K, YouTube does not offer the low-latency option; the stream uses normal latency.
- Copyright and permissions: Only stream recordings and audio you have permission to use. A video being pre-recorded does not remove copyright obligations or YouTube’s channel rules.
- Long-running operation: The laptop, OBS, and network connection must stay operational while using this local setup. Test for the intended duration and monitor the Live Control Room rather than assuming that a successful start guarantees an uninterrupted stream.
- No universal laptop specification: The available official guidance does not establish one minimum gaming-laptop model, GPU, or configuration that guarantees 4K60 performance. Hardware encoder support and scene complexity matter, so the decisive check is a full test on the actual machine.
Troubleshooting a 4K60 loop
