You can run a 24/7 YouTube study-music stream from India with OBS by preparing a continuous audio-and-visual scene, connecting OBS to a YouTube encoder stream, and keeping the computer, power, and upload connection available around the clock. Before going live, confirm that you have live-streaming access and worldwide rights to every track. The key constraint is sustained upload bandwidth: choose a bitrate your connection can support reliably, not just briefly.
Before you start: access, music rights and continuity
Enable YouTube Live in advance
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
Use music you are authorized to broadcast
YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for having the rights needed to use Live Content on Google services worldwide, including applicable music licensing rights. A track being available to stream, or a license being valid in one territory, does not by itself establish that it is cleared for a worldwide YouTube live broadcast and its potential replay.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder, interruption or termination. Even if you hold a license, the rightsholder may need to allowlist your channel for Content ID. YouTube’s Creator Music usage guidance does not make its described licensed or revenue-sharing tracks a clearance route for live streams.

Before using a track, verify that your permission covers YouTube live broadcasting, the relevant territories, any archive or replay, and any required Content ID allowlisting. Keep records of licenses and permissions. If you cannot establish these rights, do not include the music.
Plan for the physical setup to stay available
With a local OBS setup, the computer running OBS and its internet connection must remain active. A power interruption, computer sleep, router failure or ISP outage can stop the feed. YouTube and OBS recommend testing connectivity and monitoring stream health; a backup encoder, reliable power and a restart plan are operational precautions, not guarantees of uninterrupted service. An Ethernet connection or UPS may help with particular home setups, but neither is a platform requirement, and backup capacity depends on your equipment and desired runtime.

Build a study-music scene in OBS
- Install and open OBS Studio. In OBS, select Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard and follow its prompts. OBS uses the wizard to suggest settings based on your computer and intended use; you still need to test those settings against your actual upload connection.
- Create a scene. Add a still image, or another visual source you have permission to use. For a simple study stream, a static scene avoids the extra motion and encoding demand of a complex animated layout. If you use a looped visual, check how it behaves at the loop point.
- Add the audio source. Add the authorized music files or playback source you intend to use. Confirm the correct source is active in OBS and watch the Audio Mixer meters while audio plays. Meter movement confirms OBS is receiving audio; listen to a test recording or private stream to check audibility and levels.
- Check the complete output. Confirm the image is framed as intended, the audio is not muted or distorted, and there are no unintended desktop alerts or other audio sources. Keep a consistent, non-disruptive level appropriate for long study sessions.
Create a YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio. Start a live stream and choose the encoder workflow; create or schedule the stream, then open its stream settings. YouTube’s encoder guide describes the setup.
- Copy the stream URL and key. In the YouTube stream settings, retrieve the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or show it in a screen recording. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before continuing. See Manage live stream settings.
- Connect OBS. In OBS, open Settings → Stream and select YouTube as the service. Sign in or use the option to enter a stream key, depending on the connection method offered in your OBS version. If entering details manually, use YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Keep the key private.
- Set output conservatively. In OBS, open Settings → Output and review the streaming encoder, bitrate and keyframe interval; in Settings → Video, set the base canvas and output resolution and frame rate. Choose a resolution and bitrate your computer can encode and your connection can sustain. A higher resolution is not automatically better for a static study scene if it makes the stream unstable.
- Start with a private test. In YouTube Studio, use the stream’s visibility controls to test privately or as unlisted, then start streaming from OBS. Wait for YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators. Check picture, sound, the watch page, access from the devices your audience may use, and that OBS reconnects as expected after a brief test interruption. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends running a test before a first stream.
- Go public only after the test passes. Set the intended visibility and start the encoder stream. Keep YouTube Studio and OBS available for monitoring rather than assuming that a successful launch guarantees an uninterrupted day.
Choose bitrate and upload speed for a 24/7 feed
The relevant measure is sustained upload speed, not download speed or a momentary speed-test peak. YouTube says the total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% bandwidth headroom beyond the aggregate bitrate. OBS suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when troubleshooting connection issues. These are planning guides, not guarantees for a particular Indian ISP or home connection.
For example, if a connection consistently uploads at 10 Mbps, YouTube’s 20% headroom guidance implies keeping the stream’s aggregate bitrate at or below about 8 Mbps. That is an illustration of the margin, not a recommended bitrate for every resolution. Leave additional margin if the connection varies or other devices share it. Measure at the location and time you expect to stream, and repeat the test over a meaningful period.

- Use OBS’s bitrate setting as the stream’s target; account for both video and audio when considering aggregate bitrate.
- Reduce output resolution, frame rate or bitrate if YouTube reports instability or OBS shows dropped frames. For a mostly static study image, a lower frame rate may be adequate, but listen and watch the result at the intended quality.
- Prefer a stable wired connection where practical, and avoid large uploads or other heavy network use during the stream.
- Do not treat OBS’s 75% troubleshooting starting point as a YouTube minimum or as proof that a connection will stay reliable for 24 hours.
YouTube’s streaming tips and OBS’s stream-connection troubleshooting guide explain bandwidth and connection checks. Neither establishes a specific Indian ISP speed, reliability level or power condition; test your own connection.
Operate continuously and understand YouTube’s archive limit
A 24/7 stream needs active monitoring and a recovery plan. Watch YouTube stream health and OBS for connection problems, dropped frames, silent audio or a frozen visual. Consider a tested backup encoder and a way to restore power and connectivity if those risks matter to your use case. YouTube’s failover and connectivity guidance supports testing these contingencies; it does not promise a particular uptime.

YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a continuous 24-hour broadcast will produce one complete archive. If a replay matters, plan a separate recording or a schedule of shorter broadcasts and verify the resulting archives. Ending and restarting streams may affect the live audience experience, so test the schedule before relying on it.

| Symptom | Likely checks | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not show a preview | Live access may not be enabled; the stream key or server URL may be wrong; OBS may not be sending. | Confirm channel eligibility and activation, recheck the YouTube encoder settings in OBS, and verify that OBS is actively streaming. Allow for first-time activation, which can take up to 24 hours. |
| Connection is unstable or frames are dropped | Upload capacity may be insufficient or variable, or another device may be using the connection. | Check sustained upload and YouTube stream health; lower bitrate or output demands, reduce competing network use, and test again. Keep bandwidth headroom rather than matching the stream bitrate to the speed-test peak. |
| The stream is live but silent | The intended OBS audio source may be missing, muted, routed incorrectly or not producing audio. | Check the Audio Mixer meters and source settings, then verify sound in a private or unlisted test and on the YouTube watch page. |
| YouTube interrupts the music stream | A track may match third-party content, or a rightsholder may not have allowlisted the channel despite a license. | Review YouTube’s copyright notice, stop using uncleared material, and resolve permissions or allowlisting with the rightsholder. Do not restart with the same disputed track until the issue is addressed. |
| The feed stops after a power, PC or network interruption | A local encoder depends on the computer and connection remaining available; recovery may not be automatic in every failure. | Restore the computer and network, check OBS’s connection and YouTube’s stream status, then resume or restart according to the stream settings. Test recovery beforehand; consider a backup encoder and power/network contingency. |
Monetization is conditional, not guaranteed
Depending on channel eligibility, YouTube may make live ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers and memberships available. Ad delivery is not guaranteed, and a 24/7 format does not itself establish eligibility or revenue. Check YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance for applicable feature conditions.
