How to Run a 24/7 YouTube Stream with Streamlabs Mobile on Android

Streamlabs Mobile can broadcast from Android, but a phone is not a dependable unattended 24/7 setup. Learn the setup steps, interruption precautions, and YouTube’s archive limit.

Streamlabs Mobile can start a YouTube broadcast from an Android phone, but it is not a dependable way to leave a stream running unattended around the clock. YouTube warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a continuous broadcast and a complete replay are separate goals. Use the phone for a supervised mobile stream; for ongoing playback without a phone left running at home, consider a cloud service such as StreamNeo.

What a phone can—and cannot—do for a 24/7 stream

Streamlabs Mobile supports YouTube broadcasts using an Android phone’s camera or screen. That makes it useful for mobile or actively supervised streaming, but the app does not make the phone a 24/7 streaming server. Battery, heat, network changes, calls, notifications, and Android background behavior can interrupt a long session; the cited guidance does not establish a universal safe setup for leaving a phone streaming unattended.

There is also a separate YouTube archive limit: YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is an archive warning, not a promise that a broadcast will stop at exactly 12 hours. Do not rely on one 24-hour stream for a complete replay. YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

Check YouTube eligibility before setting up Streamlabs

YouTube’s Android mobile-live guidance lists these conditions: a verified channel, at least 50 subscribers, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, live streaming enabled, and Android 8.0 or later. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. These are YouTube’s stated requirements for its native mobile-live guidance; do not assume every threshold applies identically to every Streamlabs configuration. Check your channel and the current app flow before planning a broadcast. YouTube Help: Create a live stream on mobile – Android.

For channels with more than 50 and fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube says it may limit the audience size for mobile live streams and make the archive private by default. This qualification belongs to YouTube’s mobile-live policy and should not be generalized to every encoder workflow.

Set up a supervised YouTube broadcast in Streamlabs Mobile

  1. Prepare the channel. Confirm the eligibility conditions above and enable live streaming in YouTube if needed. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours before expecting the feature to work.
  2. Install and open Streamlabs Mobile on Android. Sign in, grant the camera and microphone permissions needed for your broadcast, and connect your YouTube account through the app’s current setup flow. Streamlabs’ setup guidance documents YouTube streaming from mobile. Streamlabs Support: How to Live Stream from Streamlabs Mobile (iOS and Android).
  3. Choose what to broadcast. Select camera capture for a live camera view or screen capture when sharing your Android screen. Set the output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate in the app’s available video settings. The right combination depends on your phone, upload connection, and the content; the cited Streamlabs instructions do not prescribe universal values for every device or network.
  4. Choose YouTube and start the event. Use Streamlabs’ Go Live flow, select YouTube, then create a broadcast or choose an existing event if the app offers that option. Confirm the selected destination and event before starting so you do not accidentally create duplicate broadcasts.
  5. Run a test and check the result. Where appropriate, make the test unlisted or private, then confirm that the stream appears correctly on YouTube and that picture and sound are usable. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health for encoder workflows; those checks are sensible for mobile broadcasts too. YouTube Help: YouTube live streaming tips.

Reduce avoidable phone interruptions

  • Close other open apps and suppress notifications or calls that could interrupt the broadcast.
  • Use a network connection you can monitor, and check the YouTube stream health rather than assuming the phone’s live indicator proves viewers can see a healthy stream.
  • Streamlabs advises starting with a fully charged phone and cautions that charging while streaming may strain the phone battery. Do not treat leaving a phone plugged in for a day as a universally safe fix; battery and heat behavior vary by device and conditions.
  • If you are framing a fixed camera shot, a tripod mount can help position the phone. It does not provide power resilience, prevent disconnects, or solve the YouTube archive limit.

Streamlabs documents disconnect protection for Ultra users that can show a “Be Right Back” screen after a connection drop. That is a viewer-facing fallback, not a guarantee that the app will reconnect automatically or that a stream will continue uninterrupted.

Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive guidance

If you need a replay, divide the broadcast into sessions shorter than 12 hours and verify each archive afterward. YouTube’s wording is that a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived; if it exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. A planned handoff between sessions can create a viewing gap, so segmentation reduces the archive risk but does not make a continuous, gap-free broadcast certain.

If continuous viewing matters more than a single replay, arrange for someone to supervise the stream and any transitions. Keep the archive plan separate: a live channel can remain available to viewers while a long session’s complete replay is still not assured.

When to use a computer or hardware encoder instead

YouTube describes encoder streaming as an option for advanced production and additional hardware, and recommends monitoring stream health, checking audio and video, and verifying local recording files. A computer or hardware encoder is a better fit than a handheld phone when the production needs fixed equipment or more control, but it still needs power, a dependable connection, monitoring, and a plan for interruptions. The available guidance does not establish that an encoder will run unattended without failure, nor does it remove YouTube’s archive constraint.

Approach Best fit Operational consideration

Streamlabs Mobile troubleshooting

  • You cannot go live: Check channel verification, live-stream eligibility, restrictions, and whether activation is still within YouTube’s possible 24-hour first-time wait. Confirm Android version and that Streamlabs is connected to the intended YouTube account.
  • The phone says live but the YouTube event does not look right: Check YouTube itself and confirm the correct event and destination were selected. Avoid starting a second broadcast before checking whether the first event is already active.
  • Portrait mode or RTMP errors: Streamlabs’ September 3, 2026 troubleshooting entry, marked resolved, describes previously reported YouTube go-live cases involving portrait orientation, duplicate broadcasts, or a broadcast appearing live only in the device UI. For the cases it covered, it suggested horizontal orientation or joining an existing broadcast. Treat that as dated vendor troubleshooting context, not evidence that all current versions still have those issues. Streamlabs Support: Streamlabs Mobile – Issues going live with YouTube.
  • The stream drops: Check connection stability, close background apps, and inspect YouTube stream health. Disconnect protection, where available, may show a holding screen; it is not the same as guaranteed automatic recovery.
  • The replay is missing or incomplete: Check the session duration. YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; confirm each shorter segment’s archive rather than assuming it was saved.

Or let it run in the cloud

For an uploaded-video stream that should keep playing while your computer is off, StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it runs from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free. It streams uploaded videos to YouTube, not a live phone camera.
