How to Run a 24/7 YouTube Stream on a Cloud Server in India

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can keep prerecorded or scheduled video streaming to YouTube while your computer is off by running a media loop and encoder on a cloud server, then sending the feed to YouTube’s Live Control Room. YouTube must be enabled for your channel, and the server needs a continuing video source, a correctly configured encoder, and monitoring. The alternative is a managed playout service such as StreamNeo, which loops uploaded video from the cloud without requiring you to maintain a server.

Choose the right cloud-streaming architecture

For a straightforward 24/7 YouTube channel, the usual self-managed setup is a cloud VM running a video playlist or loop and an encoder such as FFmpeg. The encoder sends one continuous feed to the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. Your computer can be off, but the VM, its media files, and the encoder process must remain available.

Route What it does Best suited to Main trade-off
Cloud VM and encoder Runs your media loop and pushes a feed directly to YouTube. Creators comfortable configuring and maintaining a server and encoder. You manage the source, encoding, process recovery, security, and monitoring.
Managed live-video pipeline Accepts an input, transcodes it, and produces packaged outputs such as HLS or DASH. Broadcast pipelines that need managed ingest/transcoding and packaged outputs. It is not automatically a direct-to-YouTube playout service; you must design the delivery path and account for resource charges.

Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is the second kind of product, not a turnkey service that loops a playlist and pushes it straight to YouTube. Its documented pipeline accepts SRT or RTMP input, transcodes to HLS or DASH, and saves the output to Cloud Storage; it supports a backup input. Mumbai (asia-south1) is listed as a supported region. Google Cloud documents the API architecture and supported regions.

Check YouTube eligibility before configuring the server

YouTube’s current “Get started with live streaming” Help page says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. It also says streamers must be at least 16 and that live content remains subject to YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements before planning a launch. If live streaming has not previously been enabled for the channel, YouTube says initial activation can take up to 24 hours. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the enablement and setup process.

Set up a cloud VM to send a continuous feed

  1. Choose a VM region and configuration. Select a region appropriate for your audience and budget, then price the instance, persistent disk, public IP, outbound transfer, and any GPU or managed encoding separately. No like-for-like monthly price for a basic always-on India VM is established here. VM sizing depends on whether you are simply relaying/remuxing already suitable media or transcoding it; do not assume a minimum instance size without a workload-specific benchmark.
  2. Put the media where the server can read it. Store the recording or playlist on persistent storage or another source available to the VM. Configure the player or media process so it continues to emit audio and video when one clip ends—for example, by looping a file or advancing through a playlist.
  3. Enable YouTube live streaming and create the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the server URL and stream key supplied for that stream. Labels and screen layout can change, so use the current destination details shown in the Live Control Room rather than an endpoint copied from an old setup.
  4. Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: restrict who can read it, keep it out of public scripts, screenshots, logs, source control, and support posts, and reset it if exposed. YouTube explains that the key tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Review YouTube’s stream-key settings guidance.
  5. Configure the encoder and start transmission. Point FFmpeg or another encoder at the media source and the exact URL/key pair from Live Control Room. Run the process under a supervisor that restarts it after a failure; add alerts for process exit and loss of YouTube ingest. These are sound implementation practices, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
  6. Verify the preview and stream health. Confirm that Live Control Room receives a picture and sound, and check its stream-health indicators before relying on the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guide describes copying the server URL and key into an encoder and starting transmission. Follow the current YouTube encoder workflow.

Choose ingestion and encoding settings

Use the Live Control Room destination

YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over SSL/TLS. Use the valid RTMPS endpoint and application path supplied for the stream, connect on port 443, and preserve the hostname for SNI authentication. Google’s protocol requirements state, “The connection must be made to port 443 on the ingestion server.” Read YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion requirements.

Match codec, bitrate, and frame rate to the source

YouTube’s current encoder-settings page lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, not exceeding 4 seconds. For H.264, its recommended bitrates include:

Output YouTube-recommended bitrate
720p at 30 fps 4 Mbps
720p at 60 fps 6 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 12 Mbps

These are YouTube’s published recommendations, not measured performance for a particular VM, media file, or Indian region. Choose an output the source and encoder can sustain. A pre-encoded file that already matches the desired output may reduce the need to transcode; transcoding demands vary with resolution, frame rate, codec, and available CPU or GPU. Check YouTube’s current live encoder settings when configuring your encoder.

Keep the broadcast running and plan for interruptions

A 24/7 source process and a 24/7 YouTube watch page are related but distinct operational goals. A single VM is a single point of failure; server, source, encoder, or network problems can interrupt the feed, and account standing can affect live access. No reliability test or uptime figure is established for this setup.

  • Monitor encoder process status, CPU and memory, disk capacity, outgoing bitrate and frame rate, and YouTube stream health.
  • Alert on process exit and ingest loss. Keep a documented restart procedure and a secure way to restore credentials.
  • Consider a second encoder or backup input only if the service and budget justify the extra complexity. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API supports a backup input, but that is a feature of its managed pipeline, not an automatic failover feature of a basic VM.
  • Test recovery deliberately before depending on the channel for a scheduled event. A supervisor can restart a process; it cannot by itself fix a bad source file, broken network route, invalid key, or account restriction.

Understand archives and session length

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube Help warns, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If an archive matters, plan separate sessions shorter than 12 hours and keep an independent recording. There is no universally established session schedule for every channel; test session boundaries against your viewers’ experience and notification needs. Read YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.

Budget for the actual architecture

Self-managed VM

Estimate the exact region and expected usage for compute, persistent storage, public IP, outbound transfer, and any accelerator or encoding service. A pre-encoded loop and a real-time transcode have different compute needs. No verified all-in monthly price for a basic always-on India VM is available here, so a generic monthly estimate would be misleading.

Google Cloud Live Stream API

Google Cloud says Live Stream API channels incur charges while active even if no input is present; usage is billed by the hour and rounded up to the nearest minute after a 10-minute minimum. Price varies with input/output resolution and other features. The pricing page lists HD H.264 input at $0.14 per active hour and HD H.264 output at $0.45 per active hour (Google Cloud pricing page accessed in 2026). These are API resource charges, not a VM price or a quote for direct-to-YouTube streaming. Check the current Google Cloud Live Stream API pricing.

Managed event-delivery example

AWS’s “Live Streaming on AWS” solution page shows an example of approximately $69.74 for a one-hour 540p event with approximately 1,000 viewers: about $2.50 for encoding and packaging plus $67.24 for distribution of 791 GB. That is an AWS managed event example in US East (N. Virginia), not a monthly price for a VM encoder feeding YouTube; AWS notes that region and service availability matter. Review the AWS solution example and its assumptions.

Consider a managed playout option

If maintaining a VM, media loop, encoder, and process supervision is more work than you want, a managed service can handle uploaded-video playout. StreamNeo is #1 to consider for keeping prerecorded video live on YouTube: it runs from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and gives each account a first day free. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. See StreamNeo.

StreamNeo’s workflow is to upload a recording or create a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The service loops the media in the cloud, so your home computer and connection do not need to stay on. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. Every plan has the same product; only the billing period changes.

StreamNeo’s listed periods are: Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · Monthly $9.99 per month · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. India checkout supports UPI and cards; worldwide checkout supports cards. You can cancel any time, and creators needing five or more slots can contact support.

Or let it run in the cloud

Upload your video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; your uploaded quality streams up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot; and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. India creators can pay by UPI or card. Start your free StreamNeo day.
