You can run a bhajan stream from a laptop by using OBS as the encoder, sending its output to a YouTube encoder stream, and keeping the laptop, internet connection, playlist, and operator plan running. For a modest starting point, YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends H.264 at 720p30 with a 4 Mbps video bitrate, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio. Those settings do not guarantee that a particular laptop or connection will stay live around the clock. A continuous stream also has copyright and archive limitations that matter before you go live.
Before you start: check eligibility, rights, and the archive plan
Confirm the channel can stream
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days for encoder streaming. Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio, then create or schedule an encoder stream. Check the channel’s current eligibility and any prompts in Studio before preparing a long broadcast.
Clear the rights to the whole program
Devotional subject matter does not make a recording copyright-free. Confirm that you have the necessary rights to the specific recording, composition, performance, and visual material, for the territories where you will stream and archive it. YouTube scans live audio and video for third-party matches. A match can trigger a warning, interruption, replacement, or termination. Even a license may not prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID; ask the rightsholder about that before broadcasting licensed material.
Decide whether a single long stream meets your replay needs
YouTube says a live stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If an on-channel replay or rewind is important, plan separate broadcasts shorter than that threshold and verify your particular transition workflow. Do not assume that ending one session and starting another will be seamless.

Configure YouTube and OBS
- Prepare the playlist. Put the bhajan videos and any permitted visuals in the order you want them to play. Test the complete sequence, including the transitions and the ending behavior, so you know whether the playlist repeats as intended. OBS must be able to play the media and audio you select; keep the source files accessible for the entire session.
- Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. After confirming live eligibility, create or schedule the stream and open its stream settings. Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming configuration. Prefer RTMPS where supported: YouTube describes it as a secure extension of RTMP and recommends it because the data is encrypted to Google’s servers.
- Protect the stream key. YouTube says stream keys are like a stream’s password and address. Do not show the key in a screen capture, overlay, public instructions, or other material. Reset it if it is exposed.
- Set OBS video output. For an initial modest-quality stream, use H.264 at 1280Ă—720 and 30 frames per second, with a 4,000 Kbps video bitrate. YouTube lists 4 Mbps as its recommended bitrate for 720p30 H.264 and 0.4 Mbps as the minimum. Set rate control to CBR and the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube allows a maximum interval of 4 seconds. These are platform recommendations, not a promise that your upload connection can sustain them.
- Set audio output. Choose AAC or MP3 audio encoding. Listen to the actual stream audio, not only the laptop’s local playback: confirm that levels are audible without distortion and that the selected OBS sources capture the intended playlist audio.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then check the incoming preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room. Take the YouTube event live only after the video and sound are correct. Keep watching the health status and the program itself while it runs.
Choose settings for the connection you actually have
Use 720p30 as a cautious baseline, not as a universal requirement. Test the laptop on the same internet connection, using representative motion and audio, before committing to a long broadcast. The relevant question is whether the connection can consistently upload the chosen bitrate with headroom for normal variation. If stream health deteriorates, reduce output demands and retest rather than assuming a nominal internet plan speed is the sustained upload available to OBS.
A higher resolution may make text or visual details easier to read, but it also changes the bitrate and encoding workload. Compare resolutions against the laptop’s encoding load and the connection’s tested upload capacity. YouTube’s 4 Mbps recommendation applies specifically to 720p30 H.264; it should not be reused as a recommendation for a different resolution or frame rate.

Keep the laptop stream operational
- Prevent avoidable interruptions. Keep the laptop connected to power, prevent sleep or hibernation during the broadcast, and avoid relying on a lid-close or power-saving behavior that suspends OBS. These are practical operating precautions, not a guarantee of continuous uptime.
- Monitor the stream and recording. Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and periodically verify picture and sound. If you record locally, confirm that the archive file is growing and that the destination has enough free space for the planned recording. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive; an external SSD is one optional way to provide storage capacity, but no particular drive type or size is specified.
- Keep a person responsible for recovery. A laptop, power supply, operating system, OBS, internet connection, or YouTube ingest can fail. Assign someone to notice alerts, investigate a stopped or degraded feed, and restart or reschedule the broadcast where appropriate. OBS on a laptop does not itself establish a 24/7 uptime guarantee.
One long broadcast or shorter sessions?

Troubleshoot common problems
YouTube does not accept the stream
Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction from the preceding 90 days. Confirm that live streaming is enabled, the correct encoder stream is selected, and OBS has the matching stream URL and key. If the key may have been exposed or is no longer valid, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
The preview is missing or stream health is poor
Verify that OBS is sending to the intended YouTube stream and that the Studio preview has arrived before taking the event live. Check the actual upload connection and the stream-health messages. At 720p30 H.264, YouTube’s recommended video bitrate is 4 Mbps; if the connection cannot sustain the selected settings, lower the output demand and test again.

Video works but there is no bhajan audio
Check that the intended media source is active in OBS and that its audio is routed to the stream. Listen to a test broadcast through YouTube’s preview and inspect OBS audio meters. Confirm the media itself has an audio track and is not muted or playing through an unstreamed output device.
A live copyright warning interrupts the program
Stop or replace material you do not have rights to use. Review rights for the recording, composition, performance, and visuals, and contact the rightsholder about Content ID allowlisting if the use is licensed. A license alone does not ensure that automated live matching will let the stream continue uninterrupted.

The archive or rewind is missing
Check the broadcast duration first: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. For future broadcasts where replay matters, use shorter sessions and verify the workflow rather than depending on one continuous stream.
The local recording stops or storage runs low
Check the recording destination, available disk space, and whether the file is still growing. Choose a destination with capacity for the planned recording and retain a separate backup if the archive is important. A local recording is useful backup storage but does not keep YouTube live if the stream itself stops.
