YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre for prerecorded continuous streams; that listing is not an endorsement or a guarantee of quality, pricing, or commercial terms. If the goal is a trainer teaching live, use the encoder workflow below rather than looping a recording.
Prepare the channel before launch
Verify the channel and confirm it can livestream. YouTube says a channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable access well before the planned lesson.
Decide who will monitor the broadcast, stream health, and chat, and who will respond if the feed fails. YouTube’s guidance calls for monitoring and failover checks but does not prescribe staffing levels or guarantee uptime.

Set up the live lesson feed
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Choose visibility and audience settings deliberately.
- Connect an encoder. Copy the server URL and stream key shown by YouTube into the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube Help describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not share it publicly; if it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s stream settings and update the encoder.
- Choose a format and bitrate your upload can sustain. A conventional horizontal layout is a practical starting point for lessons viewed on computers and phones; choose another format only if it serves the intended viewing experience. Base the bitrate on a test of upload speed, not download speed. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include 6 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. These are encoder-setting recommendations, not a promise that a connection will remain stable. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and says to account for both primary and backup streams.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages. Confirm the lesson’s audio and moving video are present before starting the event.
Use a microphone that captures the instructor clearly; YouTube identifies microphones as typical streaming hardware, but no specific model or purchase is required by the setup guidance.
Test continuity and monitor the broadcast
- Rehearse with audio and movement similar to the actual lesson, rather than testing only a static title slide.
- YouTube advises setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start.
- Check playback from the channel’s watch page and on a mobile device, as well as the Live Control Room preview.
- Test that playback switches over when the primary encoder or its network connection is stopped, if using a backup encoder. Account for both feeds in bandwidth planning.
- During the broadcast, monitor audio, video, and stream-health messages; have a named person ready to respond to interruptions.
Plan recordings and lesson reuse separately
Do not rely on YouTube to create a complete archive of a continuous 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. Keep a local recording, then publish reusable lessons as separate, clearly titled videos or shorter streams so learners can find specific material.

Check rights, privacy, and audience settings
You need the rights to all material in the stream, including music. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have necessary rights for live and archived content and to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
If teachers, students, or other identifiable participants appear, obtain appropriate permissions and check the laws and institutional policies that apply where they are located. Requirements vary by jurisdiction and by whether minors or education records are involved. YouTube says streams featuring people under 16 without a visibly accompanying adult may have live chat disabled or other restrictions applied.

Set the audience designation accurately. YouTube says a “made for kids” setting turns off or restricts features including live chat, comments, reminder notifications, and personalized ads.

Can one continuous stream serve both live lessons and a recorded lesson library?
It can technically contain both, but the production and archive needs differ. Choose the workflow based on whether learners need a live instructor or reliable access to recorded lessons.
Will a 24/7 stream give every learner a complete replay?
Not necessarily. Keep a separate local recording and publish reusable lessons individually when learners need to revisit particular material.
